Have listened to a lot of singers in my 60+ years. The Celine Dions, Carey,s , Houston’s etc, are the obvious one’s. They all have their moments but still leave me a little cold all seem lost in themselves too much. This woman is a true storey teller. Cannot think of someone who is a better singer than her. She has it all and in a very good way. Brilliant. When she sings Lara disappears and your left with the storey the emotion the experience. Its like she transforms into someone else. Real magic. Would love to see her live and at her best.

When Lara wanted to extend her career to the USA, the Management of Celine Dion, who made a break at this time, was afraid she would overtake Celine and actively fought her and threatened the managers of the concert places. She changed her recording company and the new one wanted her to sing just upbeat disco music, which was not suiting her artistic desires. She quitted the US and was focussing on the French-speaking world and Eastern Europe with the successor states of the Soviet Union. Furthermore, she is a big star in Brazil. Her technique is so perfect and flawless that she can allow very much of emotions to rise without loosing any quality in her singing. Her range and extreme speech quality in every language she sings in is remarkable and the fact, that she wrote lyrics in four different languages (English, French, Italian and Spanish) is outstanding. To many wonderful younger singers, especially Dimash Kudaibergen, she is an Idol.

Peak performance Lara in my opinion. She was slaying everything vocally and theatrically speaking. She’s one of the best when it comes to interpreting a song, whether one of hers or doing a cover (like this one). She has a natural ability to carry emotions through her voice obviously, but also through her stage presence. I have watched that concert (which is a gem among others from that Lara’s time period) so many times. Still getting goosebumps every single time. All her performances that night were on point.

The song is deeper than a broken heart after a broken relationship . When Serge Lama wrote that song, he was in a secret relationship with another woan, and one day, he put on paper how he felt, so the song is about the real life relationship he had and was still going on, that was completely killing him instead of making him happy, and he wasn't able to put a stop on it, that is why there is so much despair and anger mixed with the sadness . When you read the lirics, it is not a relation from the past, it is something that is happening in the present, and he's calling for help ( or she's calling for help here since it is Lara who's singing ans not Serge)

You missed her look at the end after several seconds where she looked like she was coming out of a trance, she was so into the song. Many reactors miss very special moments at the very end because of this oversite. Viewers are waiting on pins and needles to see if the singer says anything or makes a comment as they do at times. Then when you cut it off before the very end of the video it is such a letdown or disappointment. Not good for the reactor. It appears as if one can't wait to be done with the performance.

Je suis malade (song) The real story of the song When the song was written, Lara Fabian was only 3 years old. Je suis malade is a song by Serge Lama, released in 1973 as a single and on the album Je suis malade. Written by Serge Lama on a music composed by Alice Dona, the song became the most emblematic title of the repertoire of Serge Lama who regularly takes it on stage 3. History The song Je suis malade was inspired by a real heartbreak of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship. In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. Love was a certainty, but neither of them was free: he had married Daisy Brun, his press agent, in 1968, and she was married and had a son. They love each other in secret for several years and promise to regain their freedom, but Michèle hesitates and finally flees him and settles in Morocco for professional reasons. Lama is desperate, he wants to put words on his pain without succeeding, until the day he confides in his friend Alice Dona: "this story hurts me, it makes me sick. Back home, at the piano, Alice Dona, composes in a few hours a melody [...], that very quickly, she makes the singer listen. It was a revelation and Serge Lama wrote almost the entire text in one go. He will say later "The 80% of the song I wrote in 20 minutes, it's almost a shame [...] it came out of my heart so much that I [...] immediately felt that this song had something that the others didn't have". However, nothing is done. His record company Philips does not believe in the song and to impose it Lama threatens to leave if he is refused to record it3. He wins his case and soon Je suis malade is released as a single. Unfortunately, the radio programmers prefer the B side, the lively and cheerful song Les P'tites Femmes de Pigalle which becomes a hit6. At every opportunity, however, Lama sings Je suis malade, on television, on stage [...], recognition will come, not (in this period), through him, but from a cover by Dalida very touched by the subject of the song and whose inspired and desperate interpretation will seduce the public. After that, Serge Lama's popularity was turned upside down and he definitely became a recognized and popular singer-songwriter4. Many years later, the artist confides: "An LP of Serge Lama at the time it was worth 4000-5000 albums [...] But after Les Ballons rougesNote 1 it is 1 million4." Recognition came for the creator of Je suis malade, in 1974, when one evening on the stage of the Olympia in Paris, Serge Lama completed the song by interpreting it without a microphone a cappella in front of an audience conquered by a triumph. Another happiness, the return of Michele, free and together, they give birth to a boy named Frederic in 1981 and marry ten years later8. Michèle died in 2016 at 71 years, victim of a stroke9. Her death gives the song another dimension, Lama who has not given up singing it on stage says: "Every night when this song comes, I know it is an obstacle that must be jumped [...], it usually takes me a minute to recover [...], this song deserves to be given everything". Words on behalf of the father Je suis malade is doubly autobiographical for the singer-songwriter who includes in this story of desperate love feelings from his childhood. The anger, the suffering that Serge Lama expresses with the verses "I am sick as when my mother went out in the evening, And that she left me alone with my despair" or "I am like an orphan in a dormitory". These words to the attention of his lover to whom he reproaches his decline, it is in fact to his mother that he addresses them, casting himself in the skin of his father, formerly a singer of operetta in search of success, who, pushed by his wife, gave up his career [...]. This father to whom Lama "lends his voice" when he claims: "You deprived me of all my songs, You emptied me of all my words, Yet I had talent before your skin. This period of his childhood, Lama has already evoked it in the song half sweet and half bitter Le temps de la rengaine (in 1968 it opens the album D'aventures en aventures): "[...] Mama dreamed that she had a real kitchen, While Daddy was barking at the Capucines, It was a nice time that this time [...], One day daddy sold margarine, So that mommy could sing in her kitchen, It was a hard time that time, I have tears in my eyes when I think of all that". General tip as to copyright: if the song is uploaded and reuploaded multiple times in its entirety by random fan accounts, as is the case with this song, you can safely react to it without pausing, as the copyright owner clearly doesn't pursue any sort of infringement whatsoever. 😁 This seems to be the case with all Lara Fabian's songs, but if you just search for the song title and i.e. "lyrics" you'll quickly see whether it's reuploaded by others without being taken down.

hi from france. as you specified the song is by alice dona (music) and serge lama (writing) and sung by serge lama in 1973 (today it looks like i started smoking again rather than i no longer smoke lol) for it anecdote serge lama's girlfriend is pati abroad for her work and serge lama who saw her composer alice dona explains the situation to her by saying "it makes me sick" and alice dona being on the piano starts (probably to tease him) i am malaaaa. and he wrote the lyrics in 30 minutes (he was ashamed after seeing the success of the song) lol

Great reaction. Try her Caruso, Adagio, Perdere l'amore, Broken vow, You're not from here or her duet with French Rock Star no.1 Johnny Haliday: Reqiuem pour un fou. The most emotional performance is her song "Je t'aime" (Live in Paris, 2001, HQ) with a unique reaction of the public.

I think a reaction to a different version of "Je t'aime" first would be better, though. Can be done in one reaction-video. But I think it's important to first see her sing it completely.

And now, in the 2000 I am on KZbin, hear young people like you talk about it and like it ! That is joyfull ! It makes me proud to be a francophone of america. Lara is the best pop vocalist on planet earth. But now I am going to turn you on to a Russian vocalist who has the most unique female contralto voice on planet earth. Her name is Diana Ankudinova . who many coaches, professional vocalists, and Reactors around the globe consider in possession of the most unique mesmerizing memorable amazing atavistic tribunal primordial shaman goddess voice in the world -any age. Her EPIC performance of “ Rechenka”( River in English) at age 14!!!!!catapulted her to worldwide prominence-a MUST next reaction. It’s an incredible and legendary performance of an old ritual wedding folk that to this day is considered by many professional vocalists and coaches around the world as the most unique and mesmerizing live performance by a vocalist -any age , in the history of talent contests. And along with “ Human” ( lowest possible female range she’s a rare dramatic contralto ) and “ Wicked Game” contributed to her winning not only the kids “ you are super” contest for orphans and adopted children 2 consecutive years but catapulted her to international fame with millions of avid followers worldwide. And Famous composer Igor Kurtoy has accompanied her on the piano on “ Tomorrow Is A Lie” ( 4:26 .. posted by HTB amazing performance) And you might want to read a little about her tragic younger years abused and beaten by her birth mother and put up for adoption at age 3. You may want to continue your Ankudinova journey by reacting the year prior to “ rechenka” when she was 13! She entered her first kids contest in Russia where she sang a song that required masterful yodeling. It was a masterpiece, a tour de force, some say one of the best yodeling performances on any talent show but in this performance it was the controversial aftermath that prompted the audience to give her a 5 minute Standing Ovation and caused a scandal and shouts of Diana being “ robbed”. The following day when it appeared on you tube 50 million people spit on the judges and it was revealed that the contest was fixed and the winner already predetermined and caused a major scandal. And at 13 her rendition of “ Me Voy” in Spanish was emotionally impactful and when I suggested that my Spanish language friends watch they were shocked and couldn’t believe the perfect pronunciation and emotional feelings she conveyed. And the following year and year thereafter she won the 2 “ you are super” Russian contests. After reacting to Rechenka and Wicked Game and Human Please react to “ yodel time” And you’ll witness a yodeling masterpiece. And wait to you watch and hear her at age 13 or maybe 14 on a riverboat cruise ship giving an hour long performance highlighted with her amazing performance mostly in English of a 1920s cabaret song by the famous composer Irving Berlin called “ Puttin On The Ritz” . Not only does she kill it with her vocal electrifying expressions and dance moves but I will not spoil the SURPRISE that will knock you off your chair ( a 12 second teaser she gives the audience that the late great Fred Astaire would be smiling down on her from heaven. ). If Diana wanted to she could easily become a world class.... ( I won’t spoil the 12 seconds) Also when she won her “you are super” contest she performed a song written by Lara Fabian titled “ Tomorrow Is A Lie” accompanied on the piano by the famous composer Igor. She sings it in English and the meaning of this song is so spiritual “ only here and now... Tomorrow is a Lie ( all that exists is the next moment). If you continue to react to Diana, your subscriber base will quadruple!! ps: Regarding sustaining one note with vibrato in a live performance you won’t believe what I am about to tell you. Johnny Mathis in a mega rare video posted by some Chinese filmography captured Mathis sustaining one note... are you ready? For not 20 seconds , not 30 seconds, not 40 seconds, not 50 seconds, not 60 seconds not 70 seconds, not 80 seconds but... 98 SECONDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1:28 seconds. And it was accomplished with FULL CHEST REGISTER VIBRATO!!!! Please KZbin “ Johnny Mathis one note” and he performs it live circa 1960s with a background singing group ( I believe a 4 female girl group called The Lennon Sisters ). Actually the group is in the foreground and John is in the middle of the background. Reading the comments of those who watched the video, one ( who claimed to be a professional vocalist ) said he accomplished this using a technique called “ circular breathing”. In any event, you being a vocalist perhaps your students can benefit from watching this video. All love in isolation from Miami Beach, Florida, Al pss: regarding Johnny Mathis. If you would like to watch a beyond amazing performance of him singing a medley from “West Side Story” then please click the 9+ minute version and NOT the 4 minute ones. It moved me to tears and I feel it will touch your heart and soul. All love, Al

FYI, Serge Lama is one of the top 4 or 5 French powerhouse singers/composers (up there with the likes of Brel,, Sardou - Iet's add Hallyday even if he is not a composer). They have actually sang this song in duo, which is very powerful (yet a bit less dramatic). If you lookup Serge Lama, you will see that he is quite a singer by himself. He had a groundbreaking success with a musical about Napoléon Bonaparte,

I invite you to react to Lara Fabian "Mademoiselle Hyde", "Lubov pocochaya na son" (Love is like a dream) New Wave 2016 Sochi, Russia, she sings the first song in English and switch to singing in Russian for the second one, just look at the faces in the audience to know how good she is singing in Russian. Loved your reactions for a some time. Welcome to Lara's world...she is the deep end of the pool. The best singer\songwriter\performer of the last 30 years. FYI - Always choose live with Lara...it needs to said. "Malade" is a practically the French national anthem. No one does it better. "Broken Vow" (English - she wrote it) is going to ruin your day. "Perdere L’amore" is a powerhouse Italian classic - a masterclass level of song and performance, in perfect Italian, that you will not be able to get out of your head (effortless perfection). "Mademoiselle Hyde" (English, tho she does another version in Russian) is written by Lara and Igor Krutoy the maestro (pick the live version from 2016 with Igor at the piano) is, lets say, a slightly more mature version of Lara slaying a beautiful, intriguing, kind of sexy weird song with an almost Arabic feel...killer Lara. "Caruso", another great Italian classic, is flawless and my favorite version of the song ever done including Pavarotti (and that is really saying something). Just her and a piano and she crushes it. Her biggets hit, "Adagio", a must see as are all of the titles I have mentioned and many more, has been covered by everyone including the great Dimash, but Lara is the queen and no one does it better (It is a hundreds of years old classical song she wrote words to and resurrected. "Je T'aime" is written by Lara and now a French standard that everyone knows by heart. You are entering into Lara's world and you will not come back. By the way, "Malade" was the year 2000 from '"Lara with Love" live concert, all on video, and a masterpiece front to back. Don't start playing it unless you have over an hour, a box of tissues and a glass, or bottle, of wine (French or Italian) :) All of her videos someone has done a version with English subtitles. Many are in English but she sings in 12 languages. Born to a Father from Belgium and a mother from Italy (Siciliy I think) and raised for a time in Canada, she speaks English, French and Italian very very fluently tho she sings in many other languages as well. Raised in essence to be a singer\songwriter\musician, she has been at her craft since she could walk and is considered to have near perfect technique, an insane sustain, "ring", resonance in her voice that is hard to overestimate how hard it is to do and how beautiful it is. Yet with all the technical perfection, she uses it to do things with her voice to further the lyrics, the story arc, versus just singing great and somtimes this causes the sound to purposefully "suffer"... but combining her great voice with her physical body performance, the purposeful breaks and emotional breath and other techniques, she produces the best stage prescense and storytellling on earth.

"Je T"aime" is there twice. Why? Lara fans know. The first one is a very good version live she did. The second one is, tissue alert, a live performance where her audience takes over the song, overwhelming Lara. They sing "We love you" to her while she attempts to sing "I love you" back. Watch it last of all the songs posted.

FYI Serge Lama is an artist that also wrote costum made songs for other artists on demand. It is a very common practice in France, JJ Goldman, Obispo, Lama, Sardou... It is a something very close to a CO writing but it isn't. It sometimes goes through a complete interpretation of a persona, sometimes it is just a fine tuning of the original artist style - but it is always based on the artist - in opposition to forging the artist around the song.
