"Lobster porridge" - that was funny. It was pearl barley, it's widely spread in countries of former soviet union. It's cheap and common to cook porridge with beef or pork as a main course. (sorry for my english)

Avicenna, I wonder why it seemed to say it was made of lobster? Do you know what kind of meat was used? So interesting! Thanks for the information.
@Starskysea7 жыл бұрын
It's actually because the name of pearl barley in Russian is "perlovka" and I'm guessing the translation app interpreted the last half of the word ("lovka") as "lobster". The translation app as a whole did a really bad job identifying and translating the words :P Edit: just looked back at the video and it specifically says "kasha perlovaya" (pearl barley porridge), so the "lovaya" bit misled the translation app.

@samurphy7 жыл бұрын
It works pretty good for other languages that use the same alphabet that we're used to. French, English, Italian, Spanish, etc. They each have their own unique characters, but the base alphabet and method of constructing words from phonemes is similar, so they're easier to translate. Once you get into cyrllic or ideagram languages like Mandarin and Japanese, you're basically cast adrift by translation systems.

Emmy, what I think you should consider doing is taking good quality pictures of the package and adding them in the end of the video, for about 3 seconds per photo. This dinner stew was rather not a stew at all:) i guess it was just a type of canned meat which you should eat cold, just cut it and place it on the slice of bread. It contains meat and some kind of natural jelly and it's delicious. Here you melted this jelly and it created some sort of "soup" :)
@lacoolfish7 жыл бұрын
It was a stew actually but quality was pretty bad, stew not supposed to have so much fat. Every post-USSR country has a stew in their MRE :)
@d1splaced8007 жыл бұрын
It was canned stewed beef, but you can hardly call it a stew. It consists of beef itself, fat (also beef), onion, salt, black pepper and bay leaf. According to standards, total fat content must not exceed 17%. You can eat it cold, but I assume eating it heated is much better.
@Nesja897 жыл бұрын

Google translate app was amusingly useless. It would be much easier to directly type the words into the app, though it wouldn't be nearly as funny. Also, "kasha" (каша), means any porridge, not specifically the rice one. The first can was labeled "рисовая [rice] каша", and the second one was "перловая [pearl barley] каша". Also, the other dinner can contained just canned beef, not soup. So it kinda explains why the liquid was so salty.

Things we learn about Emmy in every ration tasting: 1. She never puts sugar in her tea or coffee, so anytime she does, it’s a treat. 2. She is always hopeful that her wet nap will smell like lemon fresh Joy, because it reminds her of the wet naps of KFC when she was a kid. 3. That all of the electrolyte drinks have a viscosity, or slippery mouth feel. 4. That deserts are way too sweet, but are better with a hot beverage. 5. That most chocolate has “bloomed”. However, these vids are my FAVORITE!!! Emmy is a national treasure!! ☺️☺️☺️

Really like your videos! and just if you may be still (and it wasn't mentioned before if so i apologise) wondering the first packet of food was dinner the second was lunch and last was breakfast (or in the order you ate it breakfast, dinner,lunch) :) and the "vegetable soup" in the breakfast pack is more like a spread that is usually not heated :). Then "kasha" is just a way of preparing grain type food (porridge/gruel), so it can be a kasha made of various things, for example buckwheat or oats. Keep up the good work! Really appreciate what you are doing, your voice is really soothing :)

idk why, but I don't watch many people eat because they smack and chew too loudly but I love that she's so quiet with chewing it's like my pet peeve. she's the only one I watch. she has such a soothing voice too.

If you take a picture of the text first, then highlight the section you want translated, it does a much better job translating it 😂

For some reason, i LOVE watching your MRE videos. So interesting and the way you describe food is great!

That menu brings back memories! Those are very Soviet menu items and I ate them regularly on my trips into the FSU. Once in Kazan, I was looking at signs in the train station and couldn't make out a single word. I eventually realized the words were Tatar (A Turkic language similar to Kazakh) rather than Russian. Another great video!

If you add sugar to canned food, it counteracts that metallic taste!

This doesn’t apply to the food she is dealing with but if you add a bit of olive oil to canned veggies, like corn, it gives them a fresher taste.

Emmy, i stumbled onto your videos this week, and absolutely enjoy them. Im not a foodie by any means, but i enjoy learning about food and the process involved in and around different foods. your high intelligence and your sweet demeanor or 2 qualities that have often been thrown to the wayside on this sight. its evident how well educated you are and how much research you put into each video. So in the end, i want say thanks for your videos and bravo.....youre pretty good

My buddy ate one of these the other day and he literally got a rock in one of his entrées and a hair in another. The QC is lacking a bit at the factory where these are put together haha.

There was a lot of lard and some (a little) meat. Heating is a must. One of the smaller cans had a metallic tasting pate. My dogs liked it. Didn't love it, but liked it.

@@nonbiz1520 very little of m the iron you eat is absorbed. the liver collects and stores most until new red blood cells are made. given that im curious as to to your description of the pate, liver being the principal ingredient. the taste of the iron in liver(pate or not) is the reason most of those who dislike it do so. pate is inherently metallic. was this one particularly so, or was it just not to your liking? not being argumentative, Im just curious, all answers are correct.
