One of the theories I heard (from a PsyShow Psych video) is that cute aggression is a way for your brain to try to calm yourself down. Basically when you find something so cute you can't stand it, your brain goes "Okay buddy you need to chill out by... wanting to squeeze it." Basically just a weird quirk in our brains that was probably a lot more useful when we were hunter/gatherers, but in modern times kinda makes us go "WTH is wrong with me!"

I love what I saw as a play on words for that short. 包子 (baozi) or shortened "bao" is obviously the name of the food in the short. However, I just sat there thinking "Her 包 (bao) is her little 宝宝 (baobao)" with "baobao" being "baby". Then when it turned out to be her son it just made the whole thing so much sweeter. Also, I love making bao at home. However I make taco baos which is not traditional at all. If something can be eaten as a sandwich, with a tortilla, or paired with a dinner roll I'll try to stuff it in the bao and see how it goes.

I am going to use Grand biscuit dough and bake my Ghetto Bao tonight 😂 I'll let y'all know how that works out, I am actually Rewatching this so I seal these bad bishes correctly 😅. Also I think I may do a couple different flavors like a Taco Bao, cheeseburger Bao, Ramen & beef Bao.... UPDATE: I make these frequently, I have done a breakfast one, a few different southwestern inspired.. They are a favorite here. I suggest going for the name brand Grands over store brand, the taste and texture is Far superior, but both are delicious. I bake mine only because I have no way to steam them now, but my husband Loves taking these to work the next day, and 1 tube of biscuits is Not enough for 2 people, I suggest a tube per adult person because they are that good. The best part is you can stuff it with ANYTHING, Just be careful with the liquid content, I have had bao butts bust and spill juices 🙄. It did happen less with the name brand biscuits, but the more liquid created during cooking the higher likelihood of them having a blow out, also try to leave the bottom a bit thicker, I think out the edges kinda like hand tossing pizza then put my filling in the middle then close it.

We made bao a couple weeks ago. The instructions said hold your thumb in one place, but I couldn’t understand how to do it. Thank you for making it easy to understand. I can’t wait to try it again.

what's the reason for cooking only half of the pork? just curious.
@joyjoyoo6 жыл бұрын
likeasunburn I don't get that either

If you were to cook all of it raw a lot of the juices/fat oils would fill the middle of the bun and make the bottoms pretty goopy or just super mushy and all the filling could fall out. It’s not a sure thing since it just kind of depends on the fat content of the pork you bought. But anyways.. When you cook just a portion of it and mix it into the raw- during the cooking process the cooked pork takes on the moisture from the juices of the raw :)

Very Very nice! You yourself are absolutely adorable with your story and bao creation. How precious a mom you are. Thank you for the perfect bao recipe. I grew going to china town in San Francisco and used to watching bakers make the baos, to bring home freshly baked was an absolutely memory i won't forget. I although enjoy the sweet barbecue pork buns. Now that the bakery closed down a few years ago, I now go to Irving street my favorite TC Pastry. Wonderful family and still reasonable to afford and enjoy. You are wonderful!

Bao was a heartwarming story with great animation. I've been wanting to make dumplings since I seen it and now I can thanks to your video.

I wish the local Chinese restaurant had some of those there and I would be eating them all the time.
@johnwang99146 жыл бұрын
You should just request them from the restaurant. It would be a simple matter for them to buy them frozen and steam them up if they weren't willing to do so themselves. Better yet, head to the Asian markets and buy the frozen ones yourself.

thank you for the video. Why mix the raw with the cooked pork? Just for flavor balance or is there another reason?

There's a word in Tagalog for the cute aggression you were describing: "gigil"
@barbhayes56136 жыл бұрын
How is that pronounced? Hard g’s or soft g’s or one of each? It’s a really descriptive word.

I just made these following your video! My dough was too sticky and I accidentally put too much yeast in so they came out blobby and they got pretty big. Still cooked nicely and were delicious though! I have about a cup of extra filling, what would you suggest using that for? I was thinking about sauteeing it with some eggs, maybe put it in an omelette

You sounded like one of the munchkins from Oz! Lol. Why do they cook only half the pork? Is it a texture thing? Thankyou for this. I remember the vid you did with the ones filled with bean paste-which I really want to try. I love beans-legumes. Thats a big part of meatless protein.😍🍚I'll love them and hug them and hold them forever! I adore your infectious enthusiasm Emmy. Lovely!😎
@jessicabieber10006 жыл бұрын
Laura Metheny might be half cooked to ensure full cooking. If it was all raw, I would be worried the whole thing wouldn't cook fully
@prettybyaccident6 жыл бұрын
I also wondered that. If it’s to ensure full doneness why not just cook all the pork?
@BriiCosgallaMakeup6 жыл бұрын
Victoria Hauck because that'll make the filling hard and not juicy.
@kellyforlife096 жыл бұрын
I was thinking if you cook half, you can drain half the grease. So when the bao is cooked it will only have enough juiciness to not be really soaked/fall apart. Not sure though!
@NotAyyOhFee6 жыл бұрын
KrisCricket yes! That is exactly why. Less grease, different texture.

I absolutely love your videos!!!! Can I ask you a question? I don’t eat pork but I’d love to make these, what kind of meat can we substitute for the pork? Can we make these vegetarian with mushrooms maybe or with ground chicken?

The look of these reminds me of cheeseburger pods that I had gotten to try at Disneys animal kingdom this Saturday...they were so cool! The inside tasted exactly like a double cheeseburger from McDonald's! It was so strange, also there was curry pods as well but i didn't try those. I definitely recommend tryin/recreating the cheeseburger pods tho! :)
