Hey Emmy! It's not Gifu, it's Sisu, just with an old kind of font. It fooled me too at first, but my dad told me that they are Sisu, not Gifu. I'm from Finland. My dad loves those Sisu candies, he always has a box on his pocket wherever he goes. They are sold in several flavours, you have the original one, the oldest one (same since the 20s). There are also new flavours that came after the 80s. If you want to learn more, write "Sisu (candy)" to Wikipedia. If you just type "Sisu", Wikipedia will TRY to explain you the meaning of that Finnish word, that has no literal translation to any language. Sisu is an inner quality in all Finns, that allows them to get through anything, and so much more.
@Zinetha10 жыл бұрын
Hey, this is just an addition to my previous comment about the word sisu. I looked into it myself on Wikipedia, and it turned out that Japanese has a word that is somewhat same than sisu, it's "ganbaru". At least Wikipedia says it's somewhat similar.

It's pure heat and well...the taste is so raw, that I barely could keep myself from spitting it out. That was in the early 90's..nowadays U can find Dijon in any store in Finland. If U haven't tried it yet....try. It completely lacks the sweet element . Take care.

That font on Sisu package is called fractur and was very common throuhout the world until 1940's en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraktur from wikipedia: "Typesetting in Fraktur was still very common in the early 20th century in all German-speaking countries and areas, as well as in Norway, Estonia, and Latvia, and was still used to a very small extent in Sweden, Finland and Denmark,[2] while other countries typeset in Antiqua in the early 20th century. Some books at that time used related blackletter fonts such as Schwabacher; however, the predominant typeface was the Normalfraktur, which came in slight variations."

It's okay if you like liquorice but you really don't have to let me know, I am aware of the fact that, clearly, there are a lot of people who like it, why else would it still be in massive production, but I simply explained how I feel because I find it quite bad to taste and I know a lot of people who do not like it (globally speaking) so I just kind of went: "so who actually likes it?" It was rhetorical :3 I wish I'd like it too, because then I could stuff my mouth with jelly beans without worrying that a liquorice one will be there to ruin everything!

You are replying under my post, saying you like liquorice, sorry for so wrongfully assuming you were talking to me.
@samikallio655810 жыл бұрын
i myself love salmiakki and especially Gifu's (liquorice). They are often "missused" i would say. They are pretty much supposed to be eaten with time. You let them melt in your mouth! I love to have one Gifu at work during the break and enjoy the salty, fresh flavor. They also have xylitol in them, so they are good for teeth and gives good breath!

Turun Sinaappia / Turun Sinaappi = Mustard from Turku We usually put some mustard on meat (usually on sausages) :3 Also that "Gifu" package is actually called "Sisu". It just has been written down by an old fabulous font.
@jumputtaja10 жыл бұрын
Hi Emmy, those last candies u ate were actually Sisu, not Gifu as u spelled. The writing outfit is just becouse it wants to look old and in old finland s was written as G-looking letter if that was a big letter and f-looking letter if that was a little letter. Hope u got it :0

You may be a bit confused why there are so many Fazer Sweets, well that's because here in Finland Karl Fazer established Fazer corporation wich is very well known for example making chocolate we call 'Fazerin sininen' which means Fazer's blue. And of course 'Geisha' and 'Marianne'.
@IsoOrkin10 жыл бұрын
Actually she have fazer blue and geisha on this video and marianne at swedish one. It was before finland part 1 as swedish... so we take turun sinappi whitch is atlast named as finnish.
@tridixiahope251410 жыл бұрын
*She HAD *at THE *sinappi WHICH Excuse me, that was a reflect. I hope you understand what witch means. plus you added an extra 'H' there. unless you were supposed to write which of course. You are free to correct me but I am pretty sure Marianne is Finnish, because it's Fazer's. If it's Finnish, it doesn't mean they couldn't sell it in Sweden. But as I said, you are free to correct me.
@Summerman000kesamies10 жыл бұрын
Actually I think he meant she had Marianne in "Emmy eats Sweden" video

I love that you are getting to taste Finland. You had some of my all time favorites in this video. Karl Fazer blue milk chocolate is the best in the world IMO.

Your Finnish pronounciation is actually kinda good :D When you said "turun sinappia" it sounded like a Finn would have said it! Hyvä Emmy!

The reason I don't tear the bag to open it, is because sometimes the bag tears open more as you reach your hand in. I find it's easier to get food if you open it the other way, it's easier to close, and it's less likely to tear open too much and spill.
