Any time I want to try an "adventurous" food, I bring my Dad with. Everyone else I know acts like I've suggested they eat poison. I've taken my Dad to have pho, sushi, bao, tandoori chicken, and many more. Every time he finds a food on TV he doesn't recognize, he calls me first. I remember one of the first times he asked for help figuring out what Rissoto was. The next big challenge: "I don't even know what they called it, watch Hell's Kitchen and tell me what the hell that was!" It was Bibimbap! Thankfully I knew a Korean restaurant in town that I wanted to go to, that was a great excuse! Introduced him to all sorts of delicious Korean foods that night, it was a great time.

I don’t have an oven, so my boyfriend and I made “Decompressed Lasagna”. It’s basically noodles (whatever - usually penne or linguine), a homemade pasta sauce, ricotta cheese (with mozzarella and egg - the same way you’d do for lasagna), chopped spinach, and cherry tomatoes. Sometimes I add quarter sized chunks of grilled chicken with LOTS of lemon and rosemary for protein, but we eat it without meat also. SO tasty! Clean the plate with a little bread
@imaginationturtle54473 жыл бұрын
this is so late but how do you make your pasta sauce?
@alize06233 жыл бұрын
@@imaginationturtle5447 I still use the recipe! You can cook it for as little as 1 hour but it’s mainly a veggie hidden sauce that teeters on the edge of soup. Ingredients: *1 can of whole plum tomatoes (feel free to do this yourself) *2 stalks of celery *3 regular bagged carrots or 10-15 baby carrots. You can shred them but not necessary. Just cubed. *1/2 green bell pepper diced. *6 cloves of garlic *1 white onion, diced. *tsp of olive oil *oregano *basil (for both ground is fine but fresh is way better) *salt and pepper *white sugar (if desired) Steps: 1. Take your tsp of olive oil and add it to a saucepan. Once heated add your carrots and garlic. These take a little longer to cook. Agitate them a bit before adding the diced onions, bell pepper, and celery. 2. Cook on medium heat until it becomes translucent. 3. Add your tomatoes. Let cook on medium-high heat while you stir in your sautéed veggies. Reduce to low heat. If you feel the need to add sugar (I don’t think this needs it but if you want to cook it quickly it probably will) add it at this point. 3. Cover with lid and allow to simmer for as long as possible. If needed to finish quickly, allow to simmer for as little as 25 minutes. Once again, if simmering for 25 minutes, sugar will need to be added to taste. Add a tablespoon at this point if desired. 4. Once finished simmering, put your sauce into a blender. This will help hide the vegetables for any picky eaters. Blend until it reaches your desired consistency. Or 4b. Begin crushing the tomatoes with a wooden spoon. Once again, until your desired consistency. If you prefer a smoother sauce, aren’t cooking for long, or are trying to hide the vegetables, you should use the blender. 5. Once sauce is at desired constancy add salt, pepper, basil, and oregano to taste. If necessary, add additional sugar at this point as well. Leave on medium-high heat uncovered to thicken up. Once thickened you may serve or can. It’s not a perfectly authentic recipe but I promise it’s very tasty. I make in bulk and can it.

I wish they had some of these in a non-spicy version. The curry noodles I just tried a few days ago tasted SO. GOOD. If anyone who's better at cooking than me has an idea of how to make the curry noodles in a homemade version, I would be so grateful! Hey emmy! Induction cookers are not powered by magnets. They work by running a high current through a big coil of wire and switching the direction it flows very quickly (thousands of times a second). This produces an electromagnetic field that you cannot feel or doesn't harm you if you touch it. However, this electromagnetic field induces an EM field inside iron directly above it (like your pan or pot) and this alternating EM field (called an eddy current) produces heat as a resistance to the very fast switching of the current in your induction top.

Dunno if someone already written this BUT, carbonara is traditionally made with guanciale in the Lazio region, where in Italy is VERY very popular dish: Guanciale (Italian pronunciation: [ɡwanˈtʃaːle]) is an Italian cured meat product prepared from pork jowl or cheeks. Its name is derived from guancia, Italian for cheek. (Thanks wiki) It taste more smoked, salty and fatty than bacon, but it’s definitely more rich in taste. :)

Finally a comment I can answer! My brother and I have two dishes we share. One is just chex mix minus all the add ons - just the chex itself (generally only corn and rice, we don't like the wheat). It was a family thing every Christmas, and since we now live across the country for one another, if we get together once a year we just make it for that time. The second was - we weren't very rich growing up. Our dad, when we were low on money, would just make a box of elbow pasta, a giant can of diced tomatoes, and a bag of cubed cheese. Salt and pepper as needed. Basic, but it was something everyone in the family would eat - and Bryan and I love that now. It's so good.

My grandma makes a dessert called Whiz. I get funny looks when I talk about grandmas whiz to people 🤣 it’s named so because you just “whiz” all the ingredients in a blender. Here’s the recipe 3 oz box strawberry jello 1 cup boiling water Whiz in blender Add 16 oz frozen strawberries in juice Whiz til smooth Add 8 oz cream cheese, cubed Whiz til smooth. Refrigerate until completely cooled and soft set, 1-1 1/2 hours Fold in 8 oz cool whip and spread into 9x13” dish. Let set several hours or overnight The result is an almost two layered dessert. The bottom is more of a gelled fruit layer while the top remains creamy and fluffy

The fun part was we gossiped about non existent people. Also this was way before Starbucks so we just saw our Moms doing it with their friends at kitchen tables. You know that point of you’ve already eaten food at someone’s house and unless they had a kid you were bored out of your mind (not an only but the youngest and the next in line was 10 years older than me. Me and my best friend during my teenage years accidentally dipped a famous Amos cookie in Velveeta cheese dip (we were doing salty and sweet, cookies we were dipping in a shared bowl of milk and ruffles and cheese dip) and it became a monthly staple during that time of month when the cravings were strong.

When ever my Grandma visits us or we visit her we always make grilled cheese that we call “fancy grilled cheese,” they aren’t super fancy... they’re sourdough bread with a couple different kinds of cheese and we dip them in spaghetti sauce. They were the first thing that she taught my siblings and me to cook and they bring back those memories every time we eat them!

I work in advertising, and I have to say, you should definitely look into voice acting. You have one of the most pleasant voices I have ever heard, along with excellent elocution and articulation. I feel like you'd make a killing in that line of work.

Me and my cousin Brittney used to make a like taco biscuit bake in the oven. It was biscuits, topped with meat with taco seasoning, doritos, lettuce, oozy cheese. We baked the meat and biscuits in the oven then added lettuce and doritos. And cheese. And it was delicious

Lemon Ham: (I literally think my family is the only people on the planet that does this) -Take a plate thats microwave safe. -Place pieces of Deli ham around and fill the plate (first layer) -Squeeze a generous amount of lemon juice (bottled) enough to fill the bottom of the plate a bit. -Then sprinkle Sugar over it enough to make a coated layer. ((repeat this 2 more times)) Put in the microwave for 8 mins (check at 6 mins to make sure its not burnt) Your end result should be a savory-sweet glazed snack! I also lick the plate at the end haha! ITS SO GOOD! Everyone should try it! :D

My sister and I invented a dessert when we were ages 4 & 6 called "Toucan Colour"... all that it was, was vanilla ice cream whipped with a spoon to make it soft serve like, with sprinkles through it. The colours would get so mixed the ice cream would turn grey... made it a few weeks ago as a 21 year old... still tastes pretty good.

I had never really noticed the smell of some fresh herbs before. Most times I just cooked and hated it. I’ve never liked cooking. I like food just not cooking. I find when I cook I don’t want to eat it afterwards. Then my boss invited me over for Chinese New Year to make dumplings with her family. She made cooking FUN for the first time. Her daughter didn’t like the taste of parsley so we used cilantro. And she just buzzed around the kitchen bringing me herbs to smell. Things to taste. If I looked tired she’d bring me a tall glass of water and a chocolate truffle to “keep my energy up” To this day and forever more the smell of cilantro reminds me of that day. Feeling included. Feeling cared about. Actually enjoying cooking. It’s nice. I still love to make dumplings for my husband. :)

So my mother was working tons of night shifts when i was little so my dad - who absolutely had no idea how to cook - had to make me dinner. And i would always request his infamous dish „Knusper-ei“ - crunchy egg that is. He would put eggs in a pan and cook them sunny side up until they were crispy (not burned) then he would rip them apart with a spatula into tiny pieces , add tons of pepper and a bit of salt. So the end result was a plate full of crunchy-chewy egg flakes and i loved this so so so much. I ate it with ketchup and i swear to god eventhough i missed my mum when she was working, this dish made up for it. ☺️ funny enough i don‘t get along with my dad that well but the memorie of this dish and those times give us a good chuckle from time to time.
