Our family vacation, (we've always lived around the Seattle area,) was to go the beach during the lowest tides of the year. There was 6 of us so we were allowed 18 Oysters, 3 Geoduck, apiece per day plus Cockels and then the steamers we dug. So, we would grab the Ice Cheasts and head for the beach We got enough shellfish to last our family for a year during those vacation, plus what we consumed on the beach. You are right, it was the best of family times. My youngest still agrees and he turned 55 just today. We once found a Geodock which weighed 5 pounds. It was where a stream of water ran over it at low tide and no one could see it squirt like the other ones. It looks like someone turned on a garden hose in the sand rather than a squirt. It was also hard to see the neck because it was next to a bunch of pebbles that camouflaged it. I often wondered how old this one was. We have a special shovel for digging Razor clams. It is called a Clam Gun. We used to tell the tourists that we had to shoot the Geoducks with it. They believed it. Was fun to watch their reaction. Strange, how Geoducks hang around on the West coast but particularly the Puget Sound area of Washington State. We have all kinds of clams, Oysters, Crab, not to mention the Salmon, Cod Fish. We are blessed. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
