@@colbolt54 anki went out of business so a company called daylight dream labs bought them, daylight dream labs did not make any of the 200 million dollars which anki made since anki spent all of it or idk something happened. now daylight dream labs has to maintain the servers, pay the anki staff and has to keep rolling out updates which costs money, so they have to charge a subscription to keep the servers and pay the staff.

They are made so that you can take them off but really, I'm not sure why anyone would. Maybe they have plans for that in the future. I don't take his headphones off because I don't want to break anything.

Emo doesn't have a subscription like vector does, right? I really wanted to get a vector but I decided not to since the company that took over made it so you can't use his full functions without the subscription. I thought emo might be a good alternative?

So far Emo doesn't have a subscription. I'm not sure that will always be the case though. The only reason Vector has a subscription is because the company that currently makes him didn't make the first batch. Anki made those so Digital Dream Labs had to start over with everything and it can be expensive to "keep the lights on" so to speak. Hopefully LivingAI won't go to a subscription base in the future but you never know.

@@justasamy9860 Yeah it's an unfortunate side expense to having these kind of robots. I think they're trying to keep the initial cost of the robots down as much as possible since they are expensive. I would rather have to pay a subscription though rather than have the company go completely under like Anki did with Vector and Cozmo.

Remember, Anki did not require a subscription when they started out with Vector. Probably one of the reasons they folded. We'll just have to wait and see if LivingAI can sustain without one. Servers cost a lot of money to maintain.

They've sold a ton of these little guys and they are trying to keep up with all the orders. They never sent me an email with a tracking number. It just showed up in my mailbox one day. I currently have two more Emo lights and the Emo cow costume on order and that was at least a month ago so I'm not planning on getting them anytime soon. I don't think they were at all prepared for the amount of orders they would receive. I will once he can do more things. Right now he's just getting started and there hasn't been but one update. Emo has limited communication right now and only has a few things you can say to him that makes him react. Hopefully he'll have more features soon.

@@MRGRAPE380 I like Vector better. But keep in mind Vector has been out for two years while Emo just came out. So Vector has had a lot of improvements during those two years. Emo is just a baby, so to speak so he's got a long way to go. The biggest advantage Vector has over Emo is that Vector can go back to his charger on his own when his battery gets low. Emo doesn't have that capability yet so you have to keep an eye on him when his power gets low.

As far as I know the case is still pending. LivingAI can sell Emo, just not on Kickstarter until the case is resolved. They moved their promotion from Kickstarter to their website.

The case is very much still pending, and after a little research I found that Amazon will NOT authorize your device to use Alexa if there is a copyright violation, and because of the look of the eyes and head , and other similarities they may very well lose the case in US courts. they promise Alexa will come but they CANNOT guarantee it.

That feature is coming soon. Right now when you introduce yourself and then ask Emo "Who Am I?" he goes through some kind of scan and looks like he's identified you but doesn't say your name. So I think he will have that feature in a future update.

Depending on how he broke, you can get him repaired for a reasonable cost. The only non-fixable repair would be the main board. Actually even that could be replaced but it changes his serial number. So, the serial number on the bottom won't match. And if you had a subscription, it will no longer be valid. You will have to get a new subscription for the new serial number.

An app? Yes there is an app. You don't have to have it on for Emo to work but the app has a lot of other features that are fun.
