Thanks Chuck, Alicia and Dr Barnard. So much great advice. Dr B, you've saved me money on those good bacteria capsules. I know they don't work but I believed the advertisements that I wasn't buying strong enough doses. And Alicia, great advice for going to bed thinking of all my achievements and gratitude. 💝

A side note on depression and overeating: while it is definitely true that you simply stop eating when your depression reaches a certain level, i find that self-medication aka alcohol, cannabis or other substance abuse generally increases appetite and lowers inhibition. Which often makes a depressed person eat more and be less active.
@deefee7014 жыл бұрын
I think some people don't feel like eating when deeply depressed - such as when triggered by a negative event- but they find they're mostly "just depressed" so that's when they eat a lot.

@@deefee701 It _does_ make people feel happier, though. At first. What we really need to learn are coping skills, but that takes a certain level of self awareness which oftentimes means you have to reach rock bottom first. 😉

Thanks for keeping us informed. Question: Since nitric oxide is so beneficial for the epithelial lining of all your arteries, veins, intestines, lungs, etc....then wouldn't green tea be harmful since it is loaded with fluoride and fluoride inhibits the body's use of nitric oxide???

There are many, many free exercise videos on You Tube. You have NO excuse. Find friends to do an exercise video simultaneously in your own homes for support. Get creative, stop making excuses. Keep your promises to yourself.

WRONG!! I've been vegetarian - mostly vegan, but not completely - for over forty years. During that time my depression has gotten worse. Protein - beans, nuts, soy, etc. - makes me very irritable and angry. Carbohydrates make my very sad and depressed, as well as sleepy. Trying to find the right balance or combination does not work! In essence, eating "healthy" has brought down my blood pressure, my blood sugar, my weight, and my mood.

Love your work Chuck. Two things - did Dr Barnard say it was not necessary to consume fermented foods such as pickles and the like? Many traditional societies consumed small amounts of these foods on a regular basis to replenish and benefit intestinal flora. Can he comment on this please? Also, when Dr Barnard was lecturing in Sydney, Australia in the early 1990's, at the conclusion of his talk he asked were there any questions. I asked about the relationship between food and emotional/mental health. His short response was that there was little research showing any correlation between food and mood. It is refreshing that information (other than the very real personal experience of many people that was always there) is now coming out. My experience is with hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), and the mental/emotional roller coaster of moods and psychological distress that this condition presents. All those years ago I was told by Michio Kushi (who Dr Barnard knew), that the underlying issue was my overconsumption of animal foods from childhood - and that stopping consumption of eggs, chicken, cheese, and other meats, would provide relief. It proved to be true, much to my delight and gratitude. Michio said that three out of four people experience this problem to one degree or another. Could Dr Barnard speak to this problem perhaps? Thank you very much...

The endocannabinoid system filters dopamine input into downstream targets in the brain. It acts as a dopamine filter and exerts the same effects on the mesolimbic dopamine system as other drugs, despite its reputation for being unique in that regard. It increases dopamine release. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3405830/ www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5608040/
