The haka for Dawson Tahana Tamatea was done by all the boys at the school he was a teacher at, Palmerston North Boy's High School in New Zealand. Unfortunately, he passed away in his sleep recently despite being just 55 years old.

I didn’t know they do the Haka for funerals too. This is amazing. Aw, man…that second video broke me. 😢 That young man’s pain was so palpable and real I just couldn’t help but cry with him. (Crying as I type too. No shame in dat.) Dude, watching your channel…it’s addictive! I’m so glad I discovered you today. Thanks for keepin’ it real. Thanks for not being ashamed of showing your tears if they happen to com. I’m glad I got to binge-watch all this very cool content today…from the highest highs to the lowest lows. (Oh, my! What. A. Ride!) And now I think it’s time to go wash these salty tears off my face and cook some excellent food and hug my husband and kids for an awkwardly long time and remind them again how very much I love them. Until next time…(and I’m looking forward to you discovering Dan Vasc. I’ll be watching.) Blessings, friend.

Biggest sign of respect and love ❤️ to have the Haka performed at an event, funeral, wedding, graduation etc ❤ both my sons performed in Kapa haka - my eldest received best senior Kapa haka performer at school. He would perform with such passion - those slaps and scratches on the chest are done with such intensity that you see red welts on the chests and blood from scratches on their bare chests - It’s spine chilling watching this in person , incredibly touching and beautiful. I’ve cried many times watching the kids perform, wait till you see groups challenge one another powerful

So much respect, i remeber the first time as a kid i saw the haka and felt the energy, the mana flow from it and understanding later in life what they meant. How special is it. The meaningfulness, energy, unity like you say is something before experiencing it from overseas couldnt put a word on. Respect for the Haka, the Maori culture, and feeling that energy has gotten me through so many tough times. Thanks for being open to this and understanding it and educating others.

So hard to watch people suffering and Twuirm It’s a way of celebrating bereavement ! For a lost one It’s heartbreaking I love your empathy sweetie Your heart is so soft Never change your wonderful I’ve lost my daddy to cancer I was broken standing by his coffin I’d sat with him for 3 weeks singing to him into the glory of Heaven I don’t know where I got the strength My only sibling was drunk at the time so I was dealing with him Then when daddy passed my brother wasn’t around My daddy heard me crying "where is my brother "? and daddy came back for 20 mins so his son could say goodbye ! Mummy died 5 years later from dementia then my brother died suddenly of alcoholism a young man ! He had the world at his feet He was such a successful businessman but what good is that to him now He buried with my Dad and my mum ! Sorry if sound blunt but I don’t know who I’m speaking maybe to someone through no fault of their own become alcoholics Please Don’t do this to your family I’m broken about my brother my only sibling !! I’ve cried an ocean of tears I’m the last one of a family of 4 Grief is terrible but knowing my parents are in Heaven comforts me I don’t know where my brother is spending eternity he died alone…… but I believe in all the prayers of my parents and myself that Jesus came for him that lonely night I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t the wonderful husband I have He’s my everything and our young son who is disabled but I wouldn’t change a hair on his little head He’s perfect to us his parent He will always have the mentality of a young child God bless you Twirum your such an amazing young man with a heart of pure gold Thank you for being you !

I feel what and how you felt as you watched these Hakkas. So visceral, they are outpouring of their soul connecting to the departed. Coming from a different culture and faith tradition, Hakka moves me in a way about facing the pain. And that is what grief is all about...facing and feeling the pain. Because the only way is...through.

The wonderful thing is everyone is sharing and expressing their sorrow, grief, pain, joy, love. There is no shame in any of these emotions, there's no shame in losing it, in crying... in fact there is an old saying about 'letting the snot swing on the marae'. Sounds lovely I know 😆, but in extreme grief our noses run and it's a sign of honour, not weakness. We Māori do not hold in our emotions, we let them come, we grieve or celebrate openly. It's healthy and part of a shared human experience. Anyone who has heard the wailing knows it's time to cry. Very proud of our tamāriki seeing their kaha and wairua.

If you haven't already, I hope you will visit us here in Aotearoa.

Hey I noticed you like watching New Zealand culture. I was wondering if you're seen the Rugby World Cup Opening Ceremony 2011 that was held in New Zealand? It'll be cool if you check that out 😊
