My nephew who is also nonverbal autistic ran out the house without my brother or sister in law knowing like 3 times. They did EVERYTHING they could like locks and stuff certain doorknobs locks, child proof doorknobs and somehow he managed to get out still. And thankfully everytime the neighbors found him and brought him back. Good people out there. It can happen to anybody.

This happened to me when my autistic son was Grayson's age. I saw him running down the street and followed to see how long it would take him to realize he was lost, turn around, look for me, anything... I followed him for 15 minutes and 5 blocks and he never realized he was lost. I was heartbroken to know how vulnerable he could be without realizing it. He's a big 31 year old man child now, and I still worry. We never stop worrying about our babies, do we? Bless you, Terra. You're a good mother.

I am so, so, so relieved you found him. You went through a real torture. And knowing that he can’t ask for help must be absolutely insane. Don’t let anybody tell you that you are not a great mother. Honest mistake especially under her circumstances. When I was 5 my mom let me walk outside to get ice cream from the ice cream truck and I walked to the ice cream store miles away. A nice couple my mom refers to, as her guardian angels brought me home. My mom was going though all the same emotions , I wish as a child I didn’t put my mom through that pain. 😢🙏🏾

It is not her fault that Greyson ran away. She had a blind spot. When my son was two, I had put him in his room to play with his toys, and I went to the kitchen to clean up, which was just one room over. He pushed the screen out and walked the short distance to his aunt's house. He wasn't even gone ten minutes, when the police showed up and brought him home. The guy who rented my sister's basement told the police, who saw my son walk from the street to her house and told him where my son lived. Ten minutes! Who thinks a two year old is going to knock out a screen and climb out? It was too warm to have closed windows and too cold to run the AC. I decided to keep his bedroom window closed from that day forward. As mom's, we learn as we go.

As human beings, with or without kids, we worry about our families, our siblings, etc....bc there but only by God's grace, anybody can go. Same, my autistic boy got out when he was like 3 and we didn’t know…by the time we figured it out I RAN outside and looked both ways and he was walking up the street hill, crossed a street, nothing but a diaper, iPad in hand….I am overweight but I never ran that fast to scoop him up and I was shaking like crazy …..my husband silently got in the car and went to the Home Depot and got a chain bolt for the door and installed it as soon as he came home. It’s such a horrible feeling.

Even with autistic kids u have to be stern with them. My stepson is autistic and when i had to be stern with him i did it with loving words but my tone and my facial expressions meant business. Autistic kids arent stupid at all they just learn differently and comprehend differently but they are amazing kiddos! Im so happy he was found safe and sound!! And Mama u are not a bad mother cuz he got away from you. It happens sometimes. U remained calm and positive and that was the best thing for you and him!!! Love to u both!! Blessed be

My first and only great granddaughter is autistic and this had me all effed up in the head and my heart was racing and I started prayers 🙏, I love you and your family. Please yes get some type of electronic tracking device for your son. Stay blessed up mini mama.
