Can't believe he really tried all the tropes: religion, rough child hood, his children, mental illness, and finally incompetence. Boy you've behaved like an angry fool for three weeks towards the person in charge of your sentence and now you want her to go easy on you. I'll bet he thought he could get away with acting as he did because the judge was soft when in actuality she was ensuring he goes away and never even have a hope of getting parole.

I'm sorry, he should get a free past because he grew up poor and had bugs in his cereal bowl. If that's even true? Give me a break, and if he was so close to his daughter and such a family man he would have never did what he did. He would have been at home with his family. The thought that he uses his children as a way out is disgusting. I'm sure if he passed one of his children on the street he wouldn't even recognize that child because he was never in their lives from the beginning. What a vile human being.

You saw it in his closing arguments when he tried to convince the jury that “forgiveness” is a part of the healing process and they had the power to “forgive” him for the sake of all the people hurt by what he did. He’s hijacking the idea of Jesus dying so that we can be forgiven for our sins as a means of holding people’s Christian faith hostage into letting him get away with his crimes. I’ve seen Saturday morning cartoon villains give more compelling “let me go” arguments.

2 Hours and in all that time he offers up a one sentence apology to his victims and their families, and even then it wasn't sincere. He was more upset over how he was being perceived going off on them over how they didnt know him and the likes. At one point, he essentially says to them - well if you're true Christians then you'll forgive me. He blames so many people except for the one that matters most - himself. No remorse. He deserves those life sentences.

@@maxlegend1374 Most narcissists do come from a place of extreme trauma. It’s such maladaptive behavior (ie it causes such predictably negative outcomes) that it has to come from a damaged psyche. What happens is there are times when trauma is severe enough that it seems like the only way to cope is to protect the ego at all costs. For example, if you are being blamed and abusively punished for things that are beyond your control, as a child you may develop the tendency to protect yourself by preemptively believing that everything bad you’ve done was beyond your control. You may also develop the desire to control everything you can to whatever maximum extent you can control it. The point for Brooks to get help for mental illness was sometime before he ran over 70 people in a fit of rage. He doesn’t deserve our empathy but the notion that people like this are created because they’re treated too kindly is sort of mind boggling to anyone who knows anything about the etiology of mental illness, particularly personality disorders.
