Emotional labour is only when you are compensated for what is described. If your not paid then its just emotional work.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with her arguments being grounded in a Marxist worldview that looks at every human interaction as a transactional exchange within existing oppressive power structures. Its cause they're threatened by this kween. yaasss

A lot of what she said is valid but I was looking for something different tbh. Emotional labour to me means dealing with difficult people and not telling them exactly what you think 🤔. I wasn't looking for a speech about intsectionality

I just know that I’m an emotional labor of my team as I have to be adviser and cheerleader for my team, have to translate people words and feelings between my production team and the management team. Actually I don’t mind doing something like that but sometimes people just asking too much. I’m not sure including harassment in emotional labor is the right thing, tho.

If being ignorantly complimented is the worst thing she had go through, then she is right, emotional labour is heavier for some people. You know, nurses and acc care workers who deal with traumatic situations, they have it heavier. Not her though...

@Zuŝi Rice Thank you for that advice. Even this description is also a part of emotional labour I guess. I'd like to be more independent and I don't want to give women the burden to carry my feelings. I want to change and seek for the equality, even it's easy for a man not to change the own behavior.

@vanessad52694 жыл бұрын
As a woc earning her doctorate in Emotional Labour, this entire asinine argument is giving me second hand embarrassment. You make a few good points backed up by evidence based research. However most of your argument is and opinion piece and very speculative. The issues you raised about intersectionality, structural inequality and marginalisation are very important and relevant, which you have essentially diminished and equated it with a passing comment made by some guy; which is why it isn't going to be solved by 'speakers' such as yourself giving suggestions without an empirical foundation and a poorly chosen hypothesis. Hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame. Do better next time, please.

Putting new labels to old concepts and trying to make it seem like women do more work than men is why these studies are never taken seriously. This is as bad as the crowd that uses the term emotional intelligence. The fact that these concepts are unpaid is the evidence that they don't truly exist or are defined as another more credible term.

It must be awful having some guy tell you you look pretty. Come on. Egyptian princess? I'm not sure that was the best example.
@amanda5jane2 жыл бұрын
It is. They expect that you should like it. And we don’t. We don’t want your attention. We don’t care if you think we are beautiful. In most case we would rather not have to respond or pretend we appreciate your comment. We have to smile and say thank you when we don’t want to thank you. Too many men really think their opinions need to be heard and should matter to us.
@crashkey Жыл бұрын
@@amanda5janeto be fair though, who said the man wanted to give her attention or anything other than pointing out she looked like an Egyptian princess (which most people would assume is a positive) . He didn't say he was interested romantically or in any other sense. Would you then say he, as a human being, is not allowed to express any thoughts? As long as he isn't hurting anyone he can say what he likes. It was well meaning after all. Why would she even assume she needs to respond in a certain way? maybe he didn't give a hoot how she reacted. Some women feel its all about them.

Except emotional labor wouldn't be peanut butter. It would be you claiming the existence of an exciting new spread called wachibula butter, made from the wachibula nut of the planet zorfnat. And when asked by the experts of peanut butter, you shout "prove it doesn't exist!" Funny how before third wave feminism, we didn't have words for these things. Before it was called "being a good friend". Now it's called "emotional labor". Before it was called "doing housework". Now it's called "emotional labor". Before it was called "making sure the kids are fed". Now it's called "emotional labor". Also funny how it seems women everywhere just suddenly lost the ability to go "You know what? I don't have the energy for this right now."
