Veliko Tarnovo is not the first capital - it's the last Imperial capital. It was the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire. The capitals of the First Bulgarian Empire were Pliska and Veliki Preslav.

"The city next to your final destination" is my birth town and it is called Gorna Oriyahovitsa (Upper Walnut). They did not tell you that you can take a bus to Veliko Tarnovo. It stops every 30-40 min right in front of the Railroad station. It's number is 10. Of course the taxi driver did not want you to know that. By the way, Tarnovo is the third capital, not the first one. The first one was Pliska, then Preslav and then is Tarnovo.
@vesorusinov9302
@vesorusinov9302 2 жыл бұрын
Dude, if you want to be accurate, you have to admit that Veliko Tartovo is actually the fourth capital of Bulgaria. After Veliki Preslav, Ohrid became the capital of Bulgaria during the times of Samuil, and only after that came Tarnovo as the capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. Otherwise, you are giving a piece of Bulgarian history to the idiots from Skopje. But on the other hand Upper Walnut just killed me. 🙂

haha nice video! Welcome to Bulgaria :) only one thing - Veliko Turnovo is not the first capital of Bulgaria of course! 😅 Is just the old capital! Pliska was the first capital of Bulgaria from 681-893 , then Veliki Preslav from 893 to 971 , then Ohrid 992 - 1015, then Bitolia and then from 1185 Veliko Turnovo to 1393, then for just two years to 1395 Nikopol, then Plovdiv In 1878, after the Liberation, Plovdiv became the capital of Eastern Rumelia, it is part of our country, which for 7 years remained within the boundaries of the Ottoman Empire as an autonomous region. And then from April 3 in1879 Sofia is the capital 🙂

The next time you travel in Bulgaria, seek advice from Bulgarians. You may save some money. First of all, when traveling by train from Bucharest to Bulgaria, it is better to buy a ticket to Ruse, and then buy a ticket from Ruse to the desired destination in Bulgaria. Yes, in Ruse you have to react very quickly, but this way you save about 10 dollars, since you do not pay an international rate all the way, but only on the route from Bucharest to Ruse, and then you are charged at the Bulgarian rates, which are more cheap. In addition, as Stanislav Andonov advised, from Gorna Oryahovitsa it is better to take a bus to Veliko Tarnovo. Thus, in general, you would save money for an extremely rich dinner in Bulgaria and even have money left over. On the other hand, solving the train window problem with paper is not a Romanian technology. This is a well-known practice throughout the post-communist space in Easern Europe.😉

The first capital of Bulgaria was probably Bolhara around 1100 BC, with fortress around 200 km around, it was close to Pakistan. Second one as far as we know it is Fanagoria today Russia, just next to Crimea where now is the bridge. The third one is for sure Pliska, then we don't know which one was the first of the Volga Bulgaria but another Bulgarian tribe had Bitolya in North Macedonia as capital, aiming for Thessalonika. Then the next one is Preslav, and then we have Ohrid and finally we arrive at Veliko Tarnovo, for short time Plovdiv as capital of part of Bulgaria, but in the end both parts agreed on Sofia....

It's interesting but I don't know for what reason the Bulgarians avoid to say that the "Bulgarian empire" was actually a vlach-Bulgarian empire which started with a more important vlach component and finished to be lead more by the Bulgarians. This empire was possible just with the power of both sides. When they stopped cooperated the empire disappeared.

Lets not go there. You learned something from your historians, I learned something completely different...just like everywhere on the Balkans. Nobody eve heard anything about "vlach-Bulgarian empire exept in Romania...why is that?

Name a single historical source that speaks of Vlacho-Bulgarian empire. There is no such thing. In all historical records it is Bulgaria, the kings are bulgarians. Nothing disappears. Bulgaria is 1400 years old country. The first among the so called slavic nations to have rulers to the rank of Tsars, the first to have church to the rank of Patriarchate, the only one to invent their own alphabet. Nothing disappeared. The vlachs were just not the main ethnic or state- building component- in all historical records it is bulgarians. Modern romanian historical narrative is nothing but interpretation. There is no real historical sources to speak of vlachs. Think in fact how important was Bulgaria for what is not Romania- Romania used the bulgarian alphabet up to 18 century. An empire is not just wars, but culture. And culturally what counted was the bulgarians with their literally schools and churches- there were no vlach literally schools back then. Name medieval vlack patriarchate? You can't. there is no such thing.

That's nothing compared to how the train system looked like after 1989 (the communist regime fall). In the 90s, the Romanian population was way higher, they didn't have time yet to migrate and the trains looked like sardines cans. No AC, of course, delays up to 5-7 hours, the trains smelled like hell, people were throwing garbage on the train floors, the toilets were filled with fecals, you had to be constantly alert so someone will not steal your luggage, the trains were filled with classic factory workers that were drinking until they pissed themselves, everyone was eating on newspapers stuffs like onions and bacon or sausages, I can't even describe the seats, they were all cut by knife, not sure why but everyone was destroying everything in Romania at that time, they didn't care, graffiti was everywhere, penises were filling the walls of the train everywhere, inside and outside, there were scams everywhere, people were playing gambling games on corridors and they were getting into fights, and the cherry on top, you were allowed to smoke, you could barely breath, and belive me, Romanians were heavy smokers as cigarettes were cheap, and you basically traveled in a cheap bar, full of drunks that haven't taken a shower for weeks yelling random stuff at eachother. What can I say, I know is bad to travel without AC, but belive me, you could've had it way worse than this.

Yeah, our 50 years old trains should be scrapped. Must have been a terrible ride.

Am sorry, but I think that the taxi driver was being an..~#*$........, he could have definitely driven up the hill, because i saw other cars parked on the road up the hill. I was there in July 2022 and drove up similar windy cobbled stones roads too. I will admit that they are steep and narrow, but can definitely be done.
