Have lived in Bulgaria 7 years but never been to Veliko Tarnovo. Looks a place worth a visit. One memory I have of a train journey from Sofia to Yambol was sitting in one of the compartments which was empty, but made the cardinal sin of sitting in wrong seat number. As it was empty I thought I would take a window seat, until ticket inspector dressed like a military soldier arrived to check ticket and ordered me back to my proper seat by sliding door. The compartment remained empty for entire journey. Great video though. Lol

I loved watching this! I really enjoyed the style and you're editing was so tight and on point! That monastery looked absolutely stunning. I'm not one for traveling, let alone solo traveling, but I did once take off to Brasilia for 2 days solo during my trip to Brazil. Obviously, it was 'Caitlin' style, so I *was* staying in a 5 star hotel BUT once I was out exploring on my own it was one hell of an experience! Terrifying and beautiful in equal proportions. No map, no phone, no power of language, just a girl with a camera looking at Oscar Neimeyer's modernist architecture. Your walk back from the monastery reminded me of when I got completely lost and ended up in the middle of nowhere, watching snakes slither across the dusty, deserted road and wondering if I was going to die out there. Spoiler alert - I didn't. Someone in a car stopped to help me but I couldn't understand his Portuguese, and he definitely couldn't understand my pathetic attempt to speak it, and obviously, I was reluctant to hop in his car, despite his friendly disposition! In the end, like an oasis mirage, I spotted a little restaurant near a man-made lake and someone called me a cab back to the center of the city. My biggest takeaway from the entire experience was just how important architecture as an art form was to me. The perfect form of concrete and glass can soothe me, make me brave. I would love to see more of this long-form, immersive style of Vlog from you! Happy birthday for last year, this year, next year and every year you bloody stunner.

@@RoxanneTaylorMedia It's not so much the "style". You can play death metal as far as I'm concerned 😎, but the volume ratio between the background music and your voice. I think it's always a very good idea to spend your birthday alone and in such a beautiful town. :) I also do this from time to time and it helps me to "refresh" myself. :) There are many beautiful, interesting and historical places in Bulgaria and Veliko Tarnovo is definitely the right spot! If the tourist crowd doesn't bothers you, I recomend you to come again on sept. 22, when we celebrate the Independancy of Bulgaria - one of our biggest national days. The biggest celebrations happen in Veliko Tarnovo, because it was the third capital of Bulgaria during the Second bulgarian kingdom, and nowadays the city is officialy the historical and spiritual capital of the country. Visit this magnificent place once again, you won't be sorry!

I love it when KZbin creators "randomly" select places to visit that conveniently turn out to be some of the most historic places in the world. We were passing by VT a few years ago and stopped for a short walk around town. I really had to pee, so naturally I walked into the old parliament building where the independence of the state was proclaimed (or something like that) and the lady at the front desk was kind enough to let me use their bathroom. It was an old Soviet style toilet where you have to squat if you have to take a dump, or if you have to pee you simply stay on your feet and aim at a tiny hole on the floor. Finally, as I flushed the damn thing, a mighty tsunami covered the entire stall floor and soaked my feet in piss and water. It was an experience I knew I'd share with the world one day. If you ever visit VT, go to the men's toilet at the parliament building. And, don't forget to flush.

I would also advice you to visit Gabrovo and Tryavna next time you visit the old capital (Veliko Turnovo), since they are close to each other and you will love them as much as Veliko Turnovo. Shtasliveca which is located in the center of the town and you visited in the video is one of the best restaurants in the region. Great video, Roxanne! I'm considering buying a small property in Bulgaria next year and this region is on my shortlist of places I like, so I've found your video of much interest. 👌 One thing I'd like to ask you though... what month were you there, as despite the lovely blue skies, you report it as being pretty cold at times. Brrrrr! Thanks! 🙏

#Jealous. I have not been able to take a train in Europe since I filmed my Rome episode over a year ago. I got to take the train to Seoul earlier this year. 300 KPH. It was awesome. Fortunately I will be in Italy early next year so I'll get to enjoy the Trains in Europe once again soon.

The music is a little bit loud. The old town in Plovdiv is also nice.

You could have just hitchhiked haha. In Bulgaria, it's totally normal and safe. And for next time, talk to the younger people! They all speak English.

Awesome thank you! I didn't find many young locals to hang out with as I was most just in the older area.

When you were trying to find your hotel I was going like: "FOR F*CK SAKES,JUST TURN ON YOUR DATA." I didn't even realize that you don't have a european SIM card...

Lol lady,You are nuts, walking back to Tarnovo on foot. Not hard but not advisable for tourist. If you had a local with you, maybe he could had guided you through the hiker's paths, that's actually a bit faster(on foot), and some nice vistas.
@RoxanneTaylorMedia5 жыл бұрын
Haha aww I wish I knew where to find the hiker's paths but I didn't want to get lost so I thought better to just follow the road...but I'm glad I eventually found a taxi :)

Well, Bulga mostly do not want to help me, so there would not be anyone to guide her. And if they want, there is a language barrier.
@RoxanneTaylorMedia4 жыл бұрын
True I did notice the language barrier in Bulgaria more than most other European countries I visited. I wasn’t there long enough to learn many words

@@RoxanneTaylorMedia Don't worry there are lots of tourists all the time that try to walk there to the monastery from Turnovo not just back like you did on the highway. A lot of them sometimes in groups of 4 or more don't realize how cheap a taxi is here. Anyway have good one! From an X kiwi.

Another doubt? Does Istanbul Sofia train goes through velika tarnovo or its a link train to Bucharest!
@ilkoiliev-oz5ui4 ай бұрын
Veliko Tarnovo is central north Bulgaria after that the train pass the Danube at Ruse and reach Bucharest .Sofia is in west Bulgaria and on the road to Belgrade from Istanbul .
