I think people mistake how long you need to grow your nails out. Professionals will grow them out quite long sometimes, but it's all dependent on their play style. You can easily get a nice sound with a nail this is only just a little longer than your fingertip. Some actually prefer this, so experiment. Play every day, look at your right hand, and listen. Decide where the balance is between tone and nail. You'd be surprised the tone you can get with with just a little bit of nail.

Can't believe it took me so long to find this. Your finger picking combined with your timing on this song are fantastic.

Read your description on this thing...the taps sound freakin' awesome. It really punches the song up. You seem to be a perfectionist when it comes to guitar. I get that too with my art. It's never good enough for me, but everyone else always loves it. You learn to go with it and enjoy it when people like you. Use your perfectionism to get that much better, but also realize that you are a step (if not many) above the rest.

@whirlooo Yeah I have nails. You don't have to grow nails out and some people don't. But, if you're looking for the best sound you can get it makes sense. It's like the difference between playing with a pick and playing with the eraser on a pencil. Your fingertips are soft and squishy, like the eraser. If you really want a loud clear sound, you need to have nails that act as portable picks hehe.

You can use a compressor plugin to even out the taps and the playing. I recommend the free Antress VST plugin pack. If you ever want me to do some editing of your audio, send me a message.

@RainartXIII Yeah, I agree that steel strings have a much sharper, bright, sound to them, so when you strum steel strings each note of the chords really sings out. Fast strums on nylon strings tend to muddy up a bit.

@Vic9mm I like using my steel string acoustic when I do songs with more strumming, and the Nylon for songs with a lot of finger picking. The nylon strings don't sound as good to me when all I'm doing is strumming chords...Then again, I desperately need to change my nylon strings...

@whirlooo Another option is to get PLASTIC fingerpicks. You will need to re-learn how to play guitar, but you won't need to worry about nail care. If you use metal finger picks, you will get a constant scraping noise, so avoid those.

Hey it's obvious you're a gamer, or at least appreciate good game music because you play such awesome covers...I was wondering, I don't often make requests but did you ever play any of the Breath Of Fire games? It'd be awesome to hear you do a tune from either 2 or 3....those were my favorites...but 1 also had some pretty cool, & I think, under appreciated tunes. Awesome job I love your stuff!

@whirlooo Plus your fingernails dont have to be THAT long. I keep mine at 1 to 2 cm out, and just file it down when it gets longer. It's definitely some maintenance but it's worth it and it becomes easy once you get habitualized with it.
@kabukibear14 жыл бұрын
@KemaTheAtheist He was totally joking.

Also, as far as finger picks...they are usually clumsy and hard to use. A thumb pick is the most I would recommend if you're not playing banjo and only then if you're doing heavy picked bass lines. Otherwise, I would avoid them.

Remake when?
@crazyjose11112 жыл бұрын
Yea, I just can't bring myself to grow my nails, unless I do this professionally. What's your advice on finger picks? I realize it's blasphemy to use picks with a classical guitar, but it's the only alternative to growing my nails.

Steel string guitar? (maikoi15011). Haven't you all noticed!?! Steel strings are too crude! They would break under the sheer force of Justin's playing! "Strings I use changes, as I still haven't settled on any brand", he says. Naturally! That's cause even with nylon, he changes the strings 3 times a day! :-D
