Empire Records is a 1995 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Allan Moyle, starring Anthony LaPaglia, Maxwell Caulfield, Debi Mazar, Rory Cochrane, Johnny Whitworth, Robin Tunney, Renée Zellweger, and Liv Tyler. The film follows a group of record store employees over the course of one exceptional day. The employees try to stop the store from being sold to a large chain, and learn about each other along the way. The film generated negative reviews and major losses at the domestic US box office at its release. It went on to become a cult hit, and several of its stars launched successful careers.
Factoid: The film was a severe flop, making only $150,800 in its opening weekend, and by the end of its run in North America it earned a total of $303,841 against its $10 million budget.

This is such a perfect film. Its emotional, its funny, it's just classic. The acting is brilliant and so is the soundtrack. Also Joe is 100% my favourite character if not only for the fact he genuinely cares for every single employee. Lucas fucks him over majorly and he STILL cares for him, asks him if he needed the money because he was in trouble. Is stressed the hell out and STILL wishes AJ luck with telling Corey how he feels about her. Takes the time to tell Debra she is doing a good job in hopes of making her feel better. There are so many more examples but the point is Joe is KING 🤴

I was in high-school when this came out and I still love it as much as I did then. I jokingly made a button for my work name badge in the early 2000s that said 'Marc sucks' as me and coworkers were each representing characters from the film. I was Marc lol though I'm more like a non suicidal (but somewhat self destructive) Deb crossed with Marc lol.

It's such a great comfort movie, great story, funny, heartwarming, weird and the music is amazing. I miss the time where there music was just as important as the movies, if not more. To be a teenager in the 90's was pretty epic in so many ways.

White, Suburban American Teenagers from the same generation of the featured characters all *LOVE* this movie because it was so easy to see themselves as parallel to a particular character…what I can say now watching it through the eyes of an adult with kids. It’s a coming of age story; a group of record store employees are working to close-out their adolescence and believe they’re ready to become adults, but some impulsive decisions have them coming to terms with the fact that they aren’t adults yet…

This movie is more polarizing than i expected. In the comments, some shred this movie profusely, others say it was the best film ever. When it first came out i loved it. Decades later i just like it. Some of the scenes are unclassy. My favorite character is a tossup between AJ & Lucas. I usually dont like characters with lucas personality, but the actor pulls it off so well he is likeable.

Loved hanging out in record stores my experiences spannedover 4 decades from 60s on all Kool music kept changing adding formats reinventing expression never disappointing only thing lps 2 CDs got too expensive then downloading downsizing n finally disappearing But they were really something while my guitar gently weeps.
