Quite how the BBC 'allowed' this performance at the time I'm not quite sure, but its a masterpiece in non promotion. Arguably the most inadvertently subversive performance the show ever aired.

Did someone else see this on the TOTP re-runs by any chance?? I was a vague fan back in the day as I did buy the 'Follow the Leader' single, not sure why or where I got it from as I'd never heard it played anywhere and of course remember Love like Blood on TOTP. After seeing this footage again I've rediscovered them and wondered how on earth I missed all their other tunes when I was a massive punk/post-punk fan at that time! To date I'm in the process of snapping up any album I can get hold of and play nothing else, wish I could go back to those '79 ,'80's - plus years, simply love the tribal drumming on the early tracks and beyond, have to be played loud! Thanks to BBC4 for rekindling the interest!! :)

Thanks for the video, it's been 41 years since I saw this as a kid & it still remains one of the best TOTP performances, up there with PiL, The Exploited, KLF/Extreme Noise Terror & The Orb doing Blue Room. Speaking of the latter, some say it is Alex Patterson in the NBC suit.

I remember watching this at the time and being surprised that the drummer was singing. I think this may have been one of the many times Jazz Colman threw his toys out of the pram and buggered off temporarily…although on this occasion, I think he legged it to Iceland in fear of a third world war. Eeez a funny bugger that un!

I wondered where Jaz was. So this was the period when he buggered off to Iceland, cos he thought the world was gonna end. I came to find this video, cos I had a memory in my head of Jaz playing drums and singing, and I thought "That can't be right". I must have just assumed at the time that it was Jaz.

I always think of them as punk or industrial, but they are a unique band. Have loved them since first album in 1980. They were just a bit more pop from about 1982 until end of the eighties. Still good though.
