Sorry for the like 15 minutes of cyclical ranting about positive feedback loops and soft fail state paranoia regarding stats that I have just discovered after listening back to some of this. Unbelievably, about half way through the production of this video I started making some notes about what to say and not just ranting into the mic about anything that came to mind until I run of out breath. See if you notice any difference, or can tell when I started it. This might be the first step in my mythical 'make good videos' plan that I sometimes get tempted towards. In the meantime, feel free to skip forward when I complain that I don't know what a level 3 ant's value in the macro is for the 49274th time. Such is the mind of one who is being rapidly turned into an ant. Ants love macro strategy after all!

Brilliant, spontaneus part that about frustration in ubergaming, it's just not worthy; life is itself too frustrating and players just wanna have fun, with some risk, reward, tension and inmersion. Just knowing it ended up turning you into an ant, it does seem they did a good in the last part and I do want to play it! I'll tell if I find when the witting and order comes in!

Oh, I felt you seem like a, fellow who likes answers to your questions. The reason your nest gets reset is cause originally in early access those were the end of the game. So people would have massive nests that could easily crush any formicorium challenges. So when they added a new update and levels, they would force players to start over again.

I understand your commentary about the difficulty, and even as someone who isn't a rogue-like player and restarting is a way of life. Even I felt a little offended at times by my need to restart. On the highest difficulty on certain levels you are put in a soft lose scenario just based on the rng of enemies on the map and your own lack of micro. I also share your concern about learning meta. I still don't know if I am doing the right things despite winning on higher difficulties. Its all gut instinct. Perhaps I have truly become an ant 😢

Honestly I'm down for no direct control, I wish more games experimented with that, and it feels perfectly in context for this game. Going for realistic visuals on the other hand, that feels like a bad business move. I'm not that squeamish about bugs, can handle occasional giant spider, radroach or whatever, can say I even like ants irl, but constant zoomed in ant mania is a bit too much. More cartoony visuals would work a lot better for many imho

There's this old (2000) French game called "Les Fourmis", I have the disc at home. It's really similar but from what I remember it was pretty good. You might want to try it if you can somehow get your hands on it. From what I can see it's about 40 euros on FNAC, a bit expensive. Maybe illicit copies exist online idk.

if you hover ur mouse over the unit you want to build - VOILA🤓 stats. i mean... not really hidden. edit: 1:24:03 ok... so it looks like the build ur on doesn't have stats... current build totally has #s for harvest amnt, dps, health. Ur complaint about the info not being there is valid (*as of the time of recording)

Ladybirds seem to be one of the few creatures in the game that attempts to live. Most other stuff will happily run in and fight a losing battle. Empire of the Undergrowth 2 will have to take place in a world where only Ladybirds and Ants remain. Their battle shall be legendary!
