If employers are not calling you back after interviews, don't take this as a sign that they are not interested in you. Watch this video to find out possible reasons they are not calling you back after your interview. Maybe they are not interested, but that's not always the case. There are many other reasons employers might not call you back after an interview. If you are not hearing back after your interviews, one of the best things you can do is to call the employer to find out why. Don't just sit there and let your mind wander.
If you have been interviewing for jobs and not getting second interviews, it's likely that you have not been following-up after your interviews.

I mean that's what he's also addressing, they might be to busy and may have just over thought the hiring process. But you are right. I wouldn't mind feedback at a quicker time. But it also shows that you want the position and willing to give the employer an understanding that you determined for the position. Stay hungry homie.

Companies feel that as employees we have to bend to their needs but they forget it is a two way road because as someone seeking for a job we also have to see if that job fits my needs. I have refused a job I applied for because afterwards I noticed it wasn't what I thought it was. So basically we as employees also look for the best companies.

A person should never have to show desperation for a job....losing an appliction means that it can happen to the best of us as we are humans. These things happen. @@DonGeorgevich The best way to go about it is to avoid HR altogether in the interviewing process and get a job interview with the hieing manager of even better yet the supervisor of the department that you applied for. Now this is not a garentee that you will get the job but, it just eliminates more variables and hurtles that are in your way. I can not tell you how many times I have been interviewed by a 21year old child. One HR department that was so unprofessional that the HR person that I scheduled an interview for got fired several days before the scheduled interview and the other ladies in HR had no idea that I was coming for the interview. I was never given a job offer which is a good thing because if the HR department is not capable of doing a simple pass down of information when they are leaving. I really do not want to know what the rest of the companies managers, supervises, team leads etc. were like. Whats even better is when you go to an HR interviewer that does no know anything about the job they are interviewing people for. You sit there for thirty minuets to an hour during the interview slowly felling your IQ and life force being sucked through a straw. Companies cant figure out what they are not getting qualified people in their companies. Here is a thought train your HR department on how to properly conduct an interview and have some basic knowledge about the job that you are interviewing someone for. I'm not HR what do I know that's just my opinion.

@@DonGeorgevich My advice is don't dwell on not getting the position. After an interview, if you feel you don't not get the job APPLY for other positions. Apply for other positions immediately after your interview. Until you receive an official offer letter, YOU NOT GET THE JOB. Please do not put all of your eggs in one basket. You have to have more than one option. In a lot of cases option 1,2,3,4 and 5. If you don't hear back from a company after an interview after two to three weeks, move on from them before they move on from you. That way, when or if you do hear from them and the company informs you that the decided on another candidate, that company will already have been in your recycling bin of dead end career opportunities.

Interviewing is tough these days. Many times they will post a position internally and externally and already have a candidate in mind internally but still have to put on the dog and pony show that they interviewed a handful of candidates. There are times when you don't even have a real chance regardless of what you say or how well the interview went. They have no qualms about wasting people's time though. I wish they would just offer promotions to people who earned it like in the old days rather than making people post out for positions and then having external candidates go through all that and get their hopes up when its a farce to begin with.

There have been some recent strategies that say that when calling to follow up just hang up when reaching voicemail and try back another time rather than leave a message that becomes low priority. Also, with most phone systems, IT can pull the records to see if the called party answered the call, transferred it, let it go to voicemail, etc. Most such positions require a voice mail log to be kept and they would expect to see a log of such calls over a certain period. If the called party is simply ignoring most or all calls or deleting messages, this will nail them real quick.

This is something I'm currently going through right now while I'm currently working at a job I hate. I had an interview for a position that aligned with what I went to college for last Thursday, and I thought it went pretty well. I demonstrated how much of a hard worker I tend to be and willing to learn new things and do the work. I told them my potential starting date, which is this coming Monday, considering they need someone right away. They also told me they'll notify me either Friday of last week or Tuesday at the latest, which is today (They were off yesterday because it was President's Day). I've been checking my email all day today, and I haven't heard a word from them. I want to take it as a "No," but from what you're saying in the video, it gives me quite of a hope, and it helps me to keep an open mind. It's incredibly rude for the company to not let someone know either way. What needs to come together is a pre-made form letter to provide closure one way or another. To not reply is rude and unprofessional. People go out of their way, make arrangements and sometimes take risks with their current employers to make these interviews. I agree, sometimes things happen - it's a good idea to contact the company if it's been a while. But sometimes those hiring will not even respond to phone calls or emails. Interviewees are supposed to be at their best - courteous, professional, articulate and they bend over backward for the interviewer, who should show the same respect to the candidate. Makes one question the integrity of the company when they behave so badly.

@@randyndawna | I am not a hiring manager, but I can tell you their trade secret: NEVER contact candidates who will not get the job. Why? Because the rejected candidate will ask why and you must carefully give a reason without sounding like its discrimination (ex: because you're too old, or you're a woman, and such). And you have no idea how the losing candidate will react. Conversations like this can go downhill very quickly. Its better to be silent in this situation. @@devrsingh854 You will not understand until you become the one doing the hiring. I know your approach is to let every rejected candidate know they are not getting the job - and some will NOT take it well and will be convinced they were discriminated - regardless of what "standardised template email" you have, they already have their minds set that the reason they did not land the job was because they are a person of color, their age, their gender, and such. Once that employment lawyer from one of those you turned away shows up at your workplace due to whatever you said to their client, your approach will instantly change to silence. Not hearing back from an employer at all actually deters any employment lawyer from showing up because that employer literally said nothing. Its called liability issues. Keep in mind the practice of not hearing back after applying for any job has started since the beginning of time. Its still the way to go. At least, I think, this will be best and sustainable ways for both candidates and employers. A candidate spend much time and efforts to apply a job, they are deserved a reply even not be hired. just a several minutes call or even a email to tell the result can help so much whatever in releasing pressure, focusing efforts on other positions, etc. Instead of waiting and guess what happen to the company, why they show interesting, promise to call, but did nothing, candidate can move forward. Rejection is so common in real life. A jobseeker can easily handle it. Some people may say, this is costing so much time and money, this sounds very interesting. There are so many free technology can be easily used to reply to candidates in just few clicks.

I just experienced this situation. I applied for a job and they disclosed that there were over 300 applicants. Over the course of three weeks, I interviewed with nine people from the company (yes, 9 people). I drove an hour each way for a physical interview and a test. It was a basic allocation of resources test and I nailed it within five minutes. I was told that it was between me and one other person that would be selected to get the job. They explicitly stated that they "wouldn't leave me hanging" and I would be informed of their decision within six days at the most. I left an extremely friendly and positive voicemail after 10 days of not hearing anything back. Still no callback. Even if they called me at this point and offered me a job, I'd tell them to stick it. If a company can't do something as basic as letting you know your standing, it's a great indication that they have no respect for their employees.

This doesn't address the issue I have, however. At the end of EVERY interview, I specifically ask them if they'll get back to me even if I don't get the job. Every single hiring manager has said "yes!" in some clearly understood form or another. However, they NEVER do. I'm not exaggerating here. They ALWAYS promise and they NEVER follow through on that promise. Obviously, I want to be hired, but this isn't even about that. It's about employers showing the most basic level of decency and common courtesy to do what you said you would. People often respond here with, "Well, you dodged a bullet, who'd want to work in a place like that anyway?" I'd agree if this was an anomaly, but it's actually the norm, so it gets to a point where you either think that no company is worth working for (and there are those who promote that line of thinking) or you end up having to endure countless waves of dishonesty. Let me be clear here: I'm not upset at not getting the job. My issue here is simply that if someone promises they'll do something, they should do it. If employers have no intention of ever getting back to candidates they've interviewed who don't make the cut, that's fine, but TELL ME. Don't act like you'll do something you'll never do. Unfortunately, expecting people to be honest and keep to their word seems to be a hopeless endeavor, so at this point, I don't trust anything any hiring manager says because no hiring manager has ever given me reason to trust them. Some people would say that I shouldn't let bad experiences color my interactions, but at what point do I go from "keeping an open mind" to "acting like a naive fool" when I'm repeatedly lied to or misled?

And then another interview was scheduled and in the interview there were 3 interviewers at once. I was taken aback at the screen I was watching but gradually it turned into my excitement. After the interview (1hour), it comes another silence but this time I become more comfortable strangely... It is thanks to the comfort from God. (Jesus Christ). Even if I don't know yet the result. Sometimes HR can get backed up at big companies and you are not always the first priority on their list. Especially in summer and during busy times of the year. Normally after a week I write them off if I don't hear back but I know a co-worker of mine who literally followed up like 3 times and got hired almost 3 months after they started the interview process. So yeah, 80 % of the time they haven't called because you didn't get the job but sometimes HR is just backlogged or a manager may be on vacation or something that needs to sign off on an offer letter.

They are under no obligation to tell you why they selected a different candidate. A simple "we're going a different direction" will suffice. I asked an employer (I wasn't applying for a job but just in general conversation) why many employers don't get back to employees. He says he stopped doing it because you tell them they are rejected or why, and many didn't take it well, and would call his company and spew abuse, death threats and threats of lawsuits to the secretary to pass on to the employer. He said some people may have good intentions for feedback but he wasn't going to risk his or his staff's mental health on people who may react very badly to rejection. It isn't worth it. Unfortunately the bad eggs, and they were in the majority, aren't worth being given the time of day if that is how they react.

I just had this situation happened to me and it's scary because the place I applied it was basically a 2 week process where there was an interview and then a tasting, both of them went great and they even gave me good points and when they said they would let me know what they decided they didn't so I emailed them and told me they weren't going to move forward, not only was I blindsided because they never said anything bad but I was extremely disappointed because places nowadays are very untrusting of employees and they want to see how you work but they don't understand that we also have needs and as employees and we can't invest so much time in a interview process. What also bothered me is that they couldn't even tell me why I wasn't chosen. I felt like I deserved at least that. It really is discouraging.

Please, don't dwell on not getting the position. After an interview and if you feel you don't not get the job APPLY for other positions.

1. If the employer "forgot", then this is careless and the people in HR should not be in these positions. 2. If an employer clearly states that he or she will call back, then he or she should, oh, I don't know, call back. Otherwise, this is dishonest and misleading. The employer has a responsibility to follow-up and let the potential employee know what is happening. It is professional and ethical. You should be calling out the employers for being so misleading rather than placing all burden on the potential employees. I did not hear any of this in your video.

From my experience, I can get a good idea if a company would be a good fit. Some throw attitude if you follow up with them, some make you do a 200+ question assessment that I honestly think if it has nothing to do with the job, what’s the point. Luckily I dodged a bullet with a company that wanted to give me the “job offer” after a 410 questionnaire regarding medical sales. Not a single medical question asked, after reading horrible employee reviews about the company, I told them this questionnaire is more of a headache than I want to put up with. And the fact I had to fill it out manually and scan everything back was another massive headache. So I told them although I appreciate their time, I’m rescinding my application and 2nd phase interview because the questionnaire was too much of a headache for me to deal with... I mean 410 questions... asking me about gambling and that I should circle yes when I don’t even gamble... seriously???

I am in a similar situation, I had 2 rounds of interview done, (brilliantly performed) the 2nd one was the Managerial round, and with everything went perfect, I was told by the Manager that I will be contacted next week, and that never happened. The HR called back the following week and informed there will be another round of discussion based on the panel availability. This is the 4th week post the 2nd round of interview, and I haven't heard anything after that. I had called again the HR to enquire about my candidature, and she seems to be not interested to pick up my call. When I see my status in the organization portal (candidate page), it shows the "Application is still under review" . Any pointers, what should be done next? I have 2 options left now...(1) - Email the HR and ask for the status (I am pretty much sure, there won't be any response) and (2) I found the Manager who took my 2nd round, on LinkedIn and can message (send Inmail) him. Again not sure if that will be rude as the Manager is my 3rd connection in LinkedIn. Any suggestions ? TIA

I had an HR Talent acquisition person call me on a Friday and say i fit the profile they’re looking for and asked me if im interested. After i said yes they said they’d contact me on Monday . A week passed and nothing happened so I called her back to follow up she said the person tasked with calling me was busy and told me not to worry as theyd call me back... Another week passed by and still nothing.. would following up AGAIN via phone call be a bad idea?

Honestly if a few days passed and they haven't contacted first it usually means they're not interested anymore so i don't bother to follow up, it'll make you look desperate and they won't consider you even more. If they were interested they would be quick

I'll say it's not a very high chance, say 2 out of 100. But if you consider the cost & benefit, it may be one of the best bet. Just 2 minutes and risk hearing some bad news (cost $10?), the return can be huge (much higher than $500). Ok, let me call them after 1 week.

I once did that, the recruiting manager had been very busy and apologized, then I got the job. But this was an internal posting. As an external candidate, I believe i shouldn't have to do follow-up. It's lack of professionalism on their part. And if I call, either they've made up their mind I'm not their choice, or I come off as annoying or needy, thereby sabotaging any chance I was still in the running.

Yes and that is precisely what many of us have done dozens of times; leaving voicemail messages, leaving messages with reception, even dropping by in person, and what happens? Precisely nothing. No response to those attempts either.

Every place I am apply never hires me I don’t know why 😭 I literally applied every where in my town at age 16, 18, and now the only place that hires me is McDonald’s but they’ll hire anyone. And I’m such a sweet girl. I don’t have any criminal records. I’m professional and polite in my interviews so what am I doing wrong? Is it because I’m an American and Muslim and wear a head scarf?Need advice please

I got an even worse situation they employed my classmates that will get exactly the same degree. They got two interviews yet they never asked me for a first. I emailed them just to get some clarification on which criteria I didn’t fill yet they never answered.

My last job interview went really well I felt, I even sent a thank you email to them after. They said they would call me in a week which was last Saturday but I still haven’t heard back from them. I really hope they’re still considering me for hire.

This is pretty good advice. There are times when employers don't get back to you because they're not interested but it is certainly possible that there are issues in their end, especially during covid. I had a situation where I hadn't heard back after 1 month and I eventually contacted them only to find out that I got the position but they just had some administration issues and a covid outbreak which delayed things longer than they expected. Definitely follow up after one week (or whatever time period they gave you) has passed after the interview.

I had an employer tell me that they no longer do it by phone, because a lot of people don't take rejection too well, to the extent that he got abuse, death threats and threats of lawsuits for rejecting them. He claimed it almost bordered on stalker levels in a couple of cases. I have noticed that when I am rejected, it is always by text or e-mail (where you can't respond to it) but every offer has been by phone call or in person, to personally offer me the job. So it is as much based on the method as anything to let you know how you went.

It goes both ways. If they say they are going to do something and don’t do it. Do you really want work for the employer? What does it say about the company? The excuse won’t work if an employee doesn’t feel like going to work. It goes both ways. Once hired we have dead lines right? Always keep applying and be proactive. There are many other companies that won’t play games.
@dhenderson1810

A tactic to try is to say this. "I actually have other companies in the industry express interest in me". "I want to work here. But another company has made me an offer, and I have 48 hours to get back to them with an answer". "I want to work for you, first and foremost, but must consider options". If they want YOU, they will hear this and fast track you. They will drop the BS and make you an offer within 48 hours, or lose you forever. It is "Fear Of Missing Out". If they don't get back to you after that, they don't want you, so move on. This way, you control the narrative.

Thats bullshit, if they meant business there wouldn’t be any excuses like that. If they get back to you a little later sure i get that, but not at all? Even to inform you they hired another applicant? Thats shit.
