There arent many window cleaners ‘legit’ who get paid when they dont work when the weathers bad or bank holidays, you sound like a fantastic boss , very fair and i like the incentives you have in place for your staff,im currently at the point now where i am too busy and need help so this video is greatly appreciated, i would like to spend more time to actively finding new work ‘ profiling ‘ ( thanks to you i now do this)new customers but find i am generally too tired after working all day which is holding my businesses growth Potential back so a good employee is definitely the way forward .... so a really interesting video!! Cheers darren

I have my staff on a flexible baises. So they work 32 hours a week. Which can be on any day. This allows us to work around the weather. Which we get allot of in the West of Scotland. Unlike a zero hours contract, their hours are gauranteed. We pay holidays, pensions etc. If we can't get out all week. They still get paid. This is what was worked for me. Everything you have said seems more than fair and reasonable. As you say there are tons of big companies and plenty of "self employed" gigs that pay less.

yep and as an employer you are expected to pay full salary whilst they sit on a beach -- and when they decide they are off 'sick' for the day and when they want maternity and paternity leave. It is a very one way street in the UK as an employer.

Hey mate, love the videos they're handy to pick up different ways to do things. I'm operating in Australia have been working for myself for the past 8 years but window cleaning for 13. Most of what I do is "traditional" window cleaning washer and squeegee ladders etc once a year. Trying to get more into the bigger jobs with the WFP and make it as quick/ efficient as possible. My question is can you do a video on your pole hose setup the quick connects you use. I have 30m pole tube (8mm od/ 5mm id) running from the brush right through to my 8mm microbore hose (100m) I see that you leave a length in the pole and just plug into that, would be interested in more detail on that setup. Thanks heaps! Curt

I like your style! Wish there are more people like yourself down here in the Uk. I Recently just left a window cleaner who I was working for. He would give us a list of around 10+ jobs to complete in a day (it was a team of 2 because we were trad rats) The deal was he'd take 25% cut out of whatever we earned that day, in which after we completed the list we'd get around £140+ from those jobs he gives us so we'd get £48.7 each and 10£ would be for fuel in which we earned that ourselves from the £140, we like to cap it at around £50 each though because sometimes we feel like the mountain just gets higher and higher as our cut would grow smaller where his would be a lot bigger because of his fat 25% capitalism. the boss doesn't do much, bugger all really.. and we know this because we would always do all his quotes and his car would always be covered in leafs 😂 he doesn't pay our tax/N.I. Or any bonus of getting him new customers like you! But all the bad besides he would ALWAYS pay every penny and on time. But After all, It was pain hence why I left to start a round of my own. Watching your video makes me realise that there is so much more than just cleaning windows! And one day I'll have a round of my own. Thankyou for all your advices I learned so much by watching you man.
@Darren-Green
@Darren-Green 3 жыл бұрын
Your 'boss' is instantly breaking the law if he doesn't pay your tax and NI - if you are going trad then it's so cheap and quick to set up on your own - my advice is just go for it - with your current working conditions sounds like nothing to lose.

Hi again, I’ve just started my business and I don’t know if I need to actually be insured when all my business owns are cleaning equipment such as window piles, squeegees and cloths and all I’m doing are my neighbours houses. This is the same thing with taxes, my business (sole trading as a brand name) doesn’t earn that much money yet. What would you say I do or could read on these topics? I do look forward to the day where I can actually afford to have staff and pay my staff more than £10 an hour 😂

Cheers Darren much appreciated I'm currently struggling to drum up good quality customers in my area and just getting odds sods all over the place.. I've only been going 4 to 5 months now but I feel like im not getting the customers I would like I watched your lead generation upload and this definitely seems like something I need to explore .. I spent with yell.com but its not having the effect I would like at 160.00 a month it's definitely not worth it I made the mistake of letting them build my website this drove the price up massively I did not realise until the "accidentally" charge me twice 🤨 so my first bill was 600 something.. I nearly passed out .. I thought spending on advertising would the way forward instead of doing the hard yards canvassing and did not bother with leaflet drops .. I am going to get some printed and target the properties of my choice next .. if I was just a bit closer I would of bit your hand off at joining up but Im in the south of Leicester so might be just a smidge to far .. 😓 yell.com also sign you up for a year contract so no getting out once your locked in for all the newbies that may be reading don't get stung like I did

Hi Darren. Just wondered. One of the reasons I haven’t taken the leap to hiring employees is this, if my very hard worker who does Mrs smiths house for £20 working for me. Isn’t the worker sometimes likely to think hold on I’m getting xyz an hour I’ll do mrs smiths windows for £17. She gets a cheaper deal and I get more money. Just a worry I have of eventually losing a round. Hope that makes sense. Any way to combat this or any personal experience?

If I thought like that I would never grow. Tescos never hired worrying that one day the staff would start a supermarket I wouldn't think. Take the plunge. If an employee seems dodgy.. let them go.

The way to stop employees taking on jobs for themselves is to have a clause in the contract that they can not carry out work privately with current or possible clients within a certain mileage for at least 1 year from leaving employment, if they do there is a fee of say £500 plus costs etc incurred. Our customers t & cs also state that clients cant take our staff and if they do thereis the same fine. Hope thats helpful . Thanks

julie reid good idea!
@Darren-Green
@Darren-Green 6 жыл бұрын
julie reid problem is you would find that almost impossible to implement. Customers only leave if they are unhappy with a service, as long as a customer is happy they stay loyal. Same with an employee, as long as they are happy, they will stay loyal. An employee going after your clients by offering a discount of a few qid here and there is not going to get far as what self respecting client will leave a service to go with someone so underhanded they are trying to steal their old companies work?
