The Orlesian version translates very differently, and I like it. It's actually almost more reverent of the Empress. "Empress, It is Thy kingdom we honor For this song, throughout Orlais We glorify thy name Empress, What matter the season We will defend you And our scars Thanks to you be silent We are forever compelled by you Empress, Come deliver us Your hours are counted Drift Nation The hope is violated Empress, Your strength is in us We raise our weapons and daggers Come delight yourself blood flowing We are forever compelled by you."

How to make a song more French : more fervor, more gore, more drama. Empress, We honour your rule By this song Through Orlais We glorifly your name. Empress, Whatever the seasons, We will protect you, And our scars Thanks to you, will be muted. We are forever in your debt. Empress, come, deliver us The time is up, The nation in disarray Hope is foiled Empress, your strength is in us We'll take our weapons And rise our daggers, Come and taste the running blood.
@garroshhellscream5948 жыл бұрын

She is singing only "Impératrice" meaning Empress. So it's not Empress of Fire in French?
@vervandi9 жыл бұрын

That's a regional thing, I strongly believe that Orlais is based on the city Orleans and the "Empress of Fire" is referring to Joan of Arc. This would likely be common knowledge among French people, as it's likely taught as standard in their history classes throughout school. It would stand to reason that they'd be able to associate the "Empress of Orlais" with the "Maiden of Orleans", which is what Joan of Arc is known as. The Empress of Fire line for the English version is likely something to help those not familiar with French history but may have heard the story of Joan of Arc through other mediums, (The Simpsons did a good interpretation of it years back). Joan of Arc was ultimately tried to executed by fire, hence "Empress of Fire". All the lyrics in the song strongly reflect her actions in Orleans, saving it from destruction by the besieging English forces.
