This led to people seeing common traits in music videos, lyrics, and even concert performances. I think the industry took a really dark turn once 2008-2009 hit, they started becoming more blatant as time went on. Around this time, Lady Gaga was on the rise and one of her most prominent performances is when she had smeared blood on herself and pretended that she was being hung at the 2009 VMA’s. (Y’all remember? Lol who told her to do that). Also, around this time I noticed that the industry STOPPED caring about hiring people with talent. People with talent are too much of a hassle. You cannot hire a “Celine Dion” and make her risqué or sexualized. If they did have talent, they watered them down (ex: Kesha. She has a beautiful voice)
