Not just that song, but the whole album. Each of their first 7 albums takes you on a journey. IMO, the best way to listen to any of their first 7 albums is uninterrupted, and with headphones, you won't regret it. I've seen 3 of their concerts (live, of course) and have been a fan for over 50 years.

My dad bought this album he was 42 at the time I was 16 I stole his That was the specific outcome they went for. Mercury wanted to make a Stereophonic album as opposed to our regular Mono These LPs would be priced MUCH higher so they needed a "gimmick" for want of a better word, to be able to 1. Show the difference to justify cost 2. Appeal to a broad range with 1 LP 3. Utilize rock &roll with a symphony They invited Justin to put a few pieces together with some of his "mates". Original MBs had the hit Go Now but struggled for a way to use the meletron, electric flute, harp which the members played but did not have Justins writing chops He wrote this song that evolved into Tuesday Afternoon then the idea for a day in the life. I believe they almost lost it all because the symphony only had a short window But it happened and if I dare say we all are better for it Btw My dad bought a master which was $40 In late 1960s that was a small fortune. A Master was a first run direct studio recording The master was where the other albums were cast Sorry for the verbosity. I am almost 70 and my heart still leaps thru hoops for the Moody Blues

@TheTalksoup

I'm sorry and I really don't want to come across as a know-it-all but I watched and recorded a biography This is Your Life about the gift Justin felt the world gave him The album was such a fluke of good luck as well as one of the most amazing masterpieces The Moody Blues were given the opportunity by Decca Records to make the first stereophonic album EVER. It was the opportunity of a lifetime And it was made with the London Philharmonic because Decca wanted The magic quality of the stereophonic long playing record to be attractive to EVERYONE,both teens to golden agers. It was to be a SAMPLE record not necessarily for public consumption just something Decca could use with their investors to show what investing into this new stereophonic album genre could do . But then they played Nights in White Satin on the radio which took off like crazy along with Tuesday afternoon and The Moody Blues went from being a fly-by-night go now band to be most famous rock band next to the Beatles The Moody Blues were blown away when they heard it played on the Radio. They also needed to justify the cost of these new "STEREO" LPs As a matter of fact my dad was the first in our family to purchase it He bought a master for $25 which was pricey in 67 I stole the album before I left for college and then someone stole it from me😑😒😞 But your statement was more from American Bandstand than a record label You couldn't dance to Pink Floyd (CAPITOL) James Taylor (Apple), The Who (Decca) , The Guess Who (RCA), Iron Butterfly (Atlanta) ELO (EMI & Decca) and several more I should apologize I have Aspergers and can't move on till I either prove my point or apologize and hang my head in shame

Justin Hayward is so talented- songwriting, singing, a completely underrated guitarist and yes he is still singing and playing. The Moody Blues were such a phenomenal group, so underrated and in the late sixties and early seventies had seven incredible albums. “Days of Future Past” was released the same year as Sgt. Pepper and though a forever Beatle lover, I would take “Days” over “Pepper”. To Our Children’s Children’s Children “ dedicated to the moon landing in 1969, a true space album. John Lodge an incredible bass player and songwriter who would never appear on anyone’s list as a great player. Met them back stage in a greet a long time ago( 1999) - nice, polite, pleasant Englishmen.

Thats was ecstatic. As you say truly, a MASTERPIECE, and so you know how we felt about the Moody Blues in the 60s. There was really nothing to compare it to. Music was so changed by the British influence from the Beatles and beyond. There was a lot of drugs like pot and acid and so on that helped break down the barriers of the old music and we poured forth with the best 30 years of musical art fusion in history. 70s were crowning. Theres still some flashes of brilliance today but nothing like the Romance that blazed out of the baby boomers. The return of WW2 soldiers after so long time away from wives and lovers caused the baby boomers to appear over the next 10 years. By 1960 the youth had begun to enter into their teens and by 70 the older ones were young adults and in their PRIME. We are still following the trails that were blazed back in those dayz...Lovely reaction Empress

Your reaction is the reaction that most have to this song. It resonates with the soul even all of these years later.

The vocals and the lyrics are amazing but what I love the most about this track is the haunting music especially the violins. Just amazing

They released this album 53 years ago, some of us are showing our age...lol. Of course this live version is newer, when the band got back together for reunion tours.

When music evoked emotion and made you think; expand your horizons. Grew up with the Moody Blues. The best music.

You have such a beautiful face. Your reactions are so natural and honest. I really enjoy watching your reactions. Thank you! I remember when The Moody Blues were playing in the city I lived in. I was working at the theater at the time and had the opportunity to work the show. I helped unload the trucks and set up the stage and instruments. The stage manager knew that I was a fan and asked me if I wanted to stay back to watch the show. 😂 It didn't take a hot second for me to say, "Yes!!"! LOL! They sounded just as good as they did when they first became famous. Age may have mellowed their voices, but the power and the messages still rang strong. That will be a treasured memory that I will never forget. (that was such a cool job!) 😊 Thank you so much, Empress, for bringing that memory forward for me. (p.s., this song has often brought tears to my eyes... very emotional.) Cheers, from Saskatchewan, Canada.
