My partner and I just had a similar experience with our new apartment. We were moved into a place with a broken HVAC unit with summer coming up and management responded atrociously to the situation. It sucks when you're young and don't know all the ins and outs of renting. I feel your pain girl and hopefully, you get a satisfying resolution

I moved into my new apartment last week so I can relate to the stress you were feeling trying to find a spot and dealing with the bs of what was going on at your new spot. I hope you can get out of that lease, get some of your money back & not have to do business with those people ever again. It truly sucks that you have to deal with that.

Hope things turn around for you Brit ❤ my bf and I had issues as well moving into our new place last month. We are also young and new to renting and there was so many things we overlooked and didnt notice until AFTER moving in. I don't have much tips myself as I am still learning too, but I know you got to keep being persistent. Your comfort and safety is a priority for you and your furbaby ❤ I hope things turn around soon!!!

Okay britt here’s my apartment tea because I moved into mine last month: My move in day was also a disaster. First, U-HAUL fucked me over BIG TIME. I paid for the U-Haul. They “kindly” started it for me and had it ready for me to drive off. I get 5 minutes down the road and stop at a gas station to get something to drink. I got back in the uhaul to go to my new apartment AND IT WONT START. Keep in mind it is 96 degrees outside (HOOOOT) this day too. So I call the U-Haul location I had JUST left from 5 minutes prior, and they tell me there’s nothing I can do. They will not swap out the U-Haul for me. I have to call AAA and have them help me which could take 3-5 hours for them to arrive to assist. Fuck that. I only took ONE day off from work to move. I don’t have time to wait for AAA. So I called my dad and he came and jumped it. Turns out they gave me a uhaul with a dead battery. I should’ve done my research on this location because apparently they have a history of doing this to people so that they won’t need to change the battery themselves. After sweating my ass off outside I finally get to my new apartment and I immediately notice a few things: It has carpet. And I was told it would have all wood floors. Normally I wouldn’t be bothered EXCEPT the carpet is disgusting and has stains all over it. AND there’s a part in my closet where the carpet has been cut out and not replaced. ALSO the fridge is old and crappy when they told us it would have a new one with a water dispenser. The windows have gross weird stains on them. The electric oven wasn’t cleaned and if you turn it on it immediately smells like something is burning all over the apartment. Oh and basically every drawer in the restroom is broken. Oh and apparently the neighbors are gross assholes that started a bug problem in the building. Oh and the light switches don’t really work, if you turn something on, there’s a chance you won’t be able to turn it off. I pay more for my apartment than what some pay for a damn house. It’s really infuriating. I chose the more expensive “renovated unit” because when I toured the model unit it looked really nice and I felt like it would be worth it. I feel like they falsely advertised like crazy. I didn’t get any of the new appliances I was told it would have. And they have refused to decrease my rent because of it. They said since it’s not in my lease document they don’t have to give me a discount. Even though they verbally told me when I went for a tour it would have upgraded appliances. Now I’m stuck spending a shit ton of money on an apartment I don’t want with a roach problem caused by my neighbor. Love you britt, I hope this makes you feel less lonely lol. I feel ya!!!! ❤ Edit: I forgot to mention my upstairs neighbor is an aspiring screamo singer and practices until like 2am every night. Sometimes I can’t tell if he’s practicing or if someone is being murdered in the room above me.

I’m so sorry girl. Ik what it’s like to be so proud of moving into a new space just to find that it’s not good at all. These apartment people are really so evil. The place I lived in last year was absolutely INFESTED with roaches and management most definitely did not clean my room when it was time for me to move in. I really hope that things start to turn around for you

Moved into a place with no functional heating OR cooling (and it was a heat wave). This is an essential service. Wanted to call a repair person but they said it was "under warranty" so we had to wait for that specific company to take care of it. It took 3 weeks to get someone out to repair it under warranty!!!

I have not experienced this before but even though I have not this whole experience can be so draining and it’s so frustrating on how those people make it seem as the issue is very little when it is not this is important and needed to be dealt with . This is a hurdle but this proves you are strong because you will overcome this and better things will appear for you. We are rooting for you Brittany 🫶🏻✨

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I moved into my first (just me!) apartment a couple years ago and the new 'luxury' unit was not cleaned and I was supposedly the first person to live in it. There was sawdust everywhere and you could see foot prints and smudge marks. Some of the laminate already had like holes and doors had paint chips that look like something smacked into it. I was literally taking an exam in the morning so my parents offered to get the keys and help me move in and when I get there my mom is literally on her hands and knees scrubbing the floors. Mind you this is a 50+ year old lady doing this bc she just wants me to have a clean and fresh apartment. My undergrad townhouse I moved into years back also had cockroaches and mgmt said we'll come spray stuff but like we can just give you some traps too.. like that was going to fix the problem. The toilet wasn't even bolted to the ground so as I was minding my business I literally saw 2 roaches come out from under the toilet between my feet. Never used that bathroom again T_T It's no where near as bad as yours but I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. I hope you're able to break the lease!!

I’m so sorry, hoping better days come soon! I had a roommate from hell and similar to you I was in a rush to move to LA and was tired of looking for an apartment, so I lowered my standards and settled for an apartment. I moved in March and during my second week my catalytic converter was stolen. End of May / all of June, I was going through a roach infestation and definitely feel for you, I was at a low mentally. I had to basically pack up my apartment and put everything in plastic bags. I lived with friends for a week and then just lived at my apartment in fear for the next three weeks. But they finally went away and I haven’t seen one in a month. My management ignored my emails and once I threatened to take legal action due to the apartment being unhabitable, they immediately responded. After the exterminator sprayed, I got roach bait (roaches will eat it and bring it back to its group poisoning them), gentrol point source (roach birth control), and sticky roach traps. I waited a week and then caulked any cracks. If you’re going to move again, go through all your boxes and make sure there’s no roaches or eggs so that you don’t bring them to your next place. Roaches love cardboard so make sure you check all the flaps and folds. Hope you figure things out soon ❤️

I'm a new viewer, and I wanted to share my experiences from renting a town home from hell when I was in my early 20s (now im in my 30s). So it was me and 3 other friends and were *going* to rent out this 3 bedroom, 2 bath town home right after college. Area was nice, outside the townhome was nice, but inside... looked a little rough. I thought with a little TLC it would be ok and so we signed the lease and paid the deposit. Again, I was naive, poor, and too scared to make a fuss/scene. The day we could move in we needed to clean bc of the state of the town home when we did the walk through and tour. That's when we noticed *everything*: lots pubic hair on the ground, living room carpet was loose, the mold and grout stains in the kitchen and bathroom, the mold in the bathroom showers, the obvious repainting where it left globs of mess and dust, so many areas that needed repainting in general, water pipe issues, etc. A nightmare... especially as someone who gets extremely nervous and anxious in dirty environments. We even spoke to the neighbors (who were so nice) and they agreed that they believed the landlord was preying us as new grads who didn't have a lot of money. They pretty much advised us to move somewhere else because they told us it was a group of college girls who lived there previously and did not seem to take good care of it. I continuously messaged the landlord (who didn't live near her rental property but instead had a middle man too) several times a day. I took so many photos of each issue and was relentless demanding that all these issues needed to be solved and cited health code violations and laws for rental properties. They offered us some solutions including repainting/cleaning but that was not going to fix much with the state the town home was in. Eventually, the landlord allowed us to break the lease and we just got the security deposit back since they did not collect rent that month. I consider myself *so* lucky to have not needed to provide several months in advance rent and that the landlord herself offered to let us go. I know it is not the same for everyone, and so my heart goes out to you

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Landlord companies are USELESS at taking care of tenants. I have a "normal landlord" and have mice problems. They used to only be here during fall/winter but now it seems they moved in permanently. OWner refused to let me have pets, but at the same time I'm forced to live with mice against my will. I send him pictures and videos of the mice every time I can. I hope you can signal to authorities about the roach issue, and to get pressure for unsanitary living conditions.

I had the same experience moving into our house. During walk ins you don’t notice much but after moving in you notice everything is wrong. Landlord special paint jobs and the sink drains not draining properly. Wood flooring is horrible. Shower caulk mold developing only 1 month in because previous owners never renewed it. Our ceiling fan not working because who ever installed it never hooked up the wires properly. The list is endless 🙄 I’m sorry our have to deal with all of this especially since you’re just renting and everything should’ve been taken care of beforehand.

I lived in my first apartment like that. I was living with my boyfriend and when I tell you we had EVERYTHING in that apartment. I mean EVERYTHING. Rats were decomposing in my oven and vents. We were BREATHING in that shit daily. The dead rats were attracting horse flies. We also had HUGE ass roaches at the same time. We lived in there for about 4 months! it wasn’t until my boyfriend’s mom came over and went absolute HAM on the leasing office were we able to break it. They offered to move us into a different unit and we stupidly took it, only to find out we damn near had the same problem. We moved out a month later AND got our money back because HELLO?! Mind you this was back in 2018 ( when rent wasn’t too crazy). Girl, GET YOUR MONEY BACK!
