I'd love to see a video of Alex or another expert prepping, digging out and transplanting mature mango trees. I'd like to grow trees on my house lot to sell, which seems to be what Alex is doing in his back yard. I saw the video that Chris at Truly Tropical did, but it would be great to also see the same tree 6 months to a year later. Thanks for all the informative vids!

Normally we prune back the canopy a sizable amount and try to preserve as much of the roots as we can, but with good planning they can be root pruned ahead of time to avoid transplant shock

I was really surprised to see so many trees of the same variety. Is that to sell at the farm, rather than personal consumption? I mean, how many Pickering or Angie mangos could one person eat?
@TropicalAcresFarms Жыл бұрын
We forgot to show two other varieties: Phoenix on dwarfing stock and a Seacrest/Triplesec. There’s also a Fairchild #2 canistel. In total the yard has 17 different kinds of mangos in it currently. Yes those Pickering and Angie were planted temporarily for that purpose along with for budwood. The temporary spaces need to produce quickly to make the most efficient use of the space which is one of the reason those varieties were chosen given their natural precocity.

What means that tree is temporary?
@TropicalAcresFarms Жыл бұрын
It means that the tree is planted with the intention of removing it after a period of time (usually 5 to 6 years) to maximize use of space and increase yield on the square footage of yard space being utilized. Once the trees have grown into one another, the temporary trees are extracted to make appropriate space for the permanent trees.

Sweet Tart does not flower consistently here. Orange Sherbet was planted instead of Lemon Meringue. Angie is extremely similar to Carrie but a better performing tree. Florigon and Glenn are good performers but not high enough among my personal favorite mangos for flavor to justify occupying limited space.

I got the idea they give the reject mangoes to locals and you can not buy the premium mango in their stand such as orange sherbet, coconut cream, pineapple pleasure, Pina colada. So I suggest don't waste your time going the place. The price is still the same with other mango farm $6/ lb. I prefer going to mango place farm , truly tropical you tube. They sell premium variety mango with same price except the coconut cream
