just so you're aware, that's just the galaxy map of the tutorial scenario. They do use the same map as all other base "new game" scenarios but there are other scenarios with vastly different galaxy maps and you can even create your own custom ones. This game is massive. You can even play multiplayer on private servers and one scenario is designed for a PVP server.

Really nice to see and follow an SE player play Empyrion. Both games are fairly similar. Ive been playing Empyrion since early pre alpha (testing). Just reached over 5000hrs and it's the game i always go back to.

This game is so fun! Just wait until you get a big ole Capital Ship and get into space battles. You can carry fighters in your bay and have your turrets on your ship firing while you race to jump into one of your fighters lol. I would advise checking out the workshop for some ship/base blueprints there is some pretty cool stuff there.

While very different from NMS, it's equally complex & powerful in its building capabilities. A lot of ppl like HVs for planetside use, but I've seen them be very terrain-dependant: while good with wide flat areas, they're less useful on planets with lots of jungle or mountains/crevasses. A decent SV, however, allows you to simply fly over this even if you never use it for extra-orbital travel (let alone warp jumps, tho some can do this too). IME J Randall's Merc-MX5E is an excellent all-round utility SV that's very upgradeable, with spots marked for assorted kit you can add as & when A harvest controller will allow your vehicle to carry more ore/logs than a standard controller before weigh/volume starts raising issues, & can be used to store general items too. Likewise, the ammo container/controller or even the fridge isn't exclusively for ammo/food, tho it's prolly best to keep it as such for as long as you can Did you ever look at Egosoft's X-series? X3, thought 'complete' for some time, got a major rework a couple of years ago which you may or may not enjoy, but the original's still well worth a look. X4 keeps going from strength to strength & is now easily the biggest game they've developed, with a fully-functional internal economy, factory building, faction wars & the ever-present menace all /requiring/ the same basic resources to keep their fleets & stations running. If you haven't seen 'em, check 'em out!

Thank you such for these tips about vehicles! I have been looking at x4 for a while... would you say x3 or x4 is the better entry point for the series?

@@DrIncompetent Difficult to say. While broadly similar in game style & capabilities (& sharing the same lore, most of the same ancient history, races & discovered systems), the two do differ subtly in 'flavour' X4 follows on the history laid down by its predecessors, so if you'd prefer to learn from as far back as you can go, without going into the complexities of getting ancient-tech X games, I'd say start with X3:TC. If you'd prefer jumping into the latest iteration (that is, ofc, still getting free updates), go with X4 with all its vastly expanded systems, automation & controllability. Be aware that like NMS these are not games you can jump into & expect to reach a defined 'end goal' within 50 or even 100hrs: they're effectively open-ended, with assorted questlines showing up every so often (or if you happen to run into the right set of circumstances or characters) to give you some ideas of directions to take. One hint: if a cutscene happens somewhere & you don't know why, pay attention to it: it's prolly another opening to another potential questline & likely won't happen anywhere else now it's been triggered

i would recommend you try both. x4 is more modern, more comfortable, looks and feels better, as it was made few years ago, but i think x3 is more complete. i can't really recommend x4 umodded and even with mods a lot is left to be desired. stories are boring and irrelevant, don't have to be done, as X is first and foremost sandbox economy game. quests are not worth it. grind is terrible. progress is really slow. serious lack of content and complexity. nothing to guide new players, so game looks hard and it's actually really simple. you never feel cool, nothing looks, feels or sounds exciting, even when you are the strongest in the universe. ai is terrible and ai is crucial element of this game. combat is not challenging and not exciting, so i participate only because ai is incapable to do it. tedious gamr
