It's funny I have not touched this game in what seems like 10 years but as you started to mess around in that underground building, I remembered all of it like it was yesterday. Started looking for videos to decide if I wanted to try out the game again as I am getting bored with everything else. Thanks for posting this!

Your welcome, the game still has it's charm and if you get bored with a basic play though try some of the scenarios and so modded ones like start salvage and Reforged Eden they really change the game and make you play different especially star salvage

"Robinson Protocol". LOL. 1960's program "Lost in Space" featured the Robinson family. I love the tongue in cheek reference to an earlier era.

I think the Robinsons in Lost in Space were also homage to a Swiss family Robinson and Robson Crusoe as a Swiss Family Robinson were named after Robinson Crusoe as they were a family in a Robinson Crusoe type adventure. I think it ties back. I suspect it the protocol is aimed more towards Robinson Crusoe as this was a story of a lone survivor from a ship wrecked at sea during a storm, hence the protocol for surviving on your own after a crash.

@@7ftdustbunny Just wanna add my vote on this! ;) Most certainly the "Lost in Space" Robinsons were a sci-fi take on "Swiss Family Robinson", which was in turn inspired by the original "Robinson Crusoe" survival story. :) Robinson (Survival) Protocol, it is! :D :D :D

I just scooped this game up free thru Epic, I'm new to this survival type of game and just trying to figure out some basics. There are so many of this style of game that look really cool, and I have always wanted to learn how to play. I'm older and not the video game nerd I used be, not able to just sit down and tune the world out playing a game for hours on end. So I really like that it is solo focused as I don't care for online multiplayer games in my old age. lol Watching your video in the hopes of learning some things beyond the most basic stuff. Hopefully this pans out, if not I will look further into your vids. I tryed building a base with the hopes of power and things but quickly was lost and confused and couldn't make it work. Thats what I'm hoping to figure out.

I look forward to this vanilla playthrough, its been a while since I did a fresh start. All the new changes look awesome. I also rushed to Omicron, got a ship as fast as I could.

yeah am looking forward to it to I hope they have done more for the main quest, and a rush is not to bad if you just want to skip the early stuff, though I will aim this a bit more for new players

Spoiler : You can't go to Omicron by ship anymore, you can only go there by teleporter (there are lore reason behind that, also Eleon blocked ship transports to it so it's mechanically impossible)

Funny story, I dozed off while watching this video, and when you were in the artifact site and got attacked by a screamer, it woke me back up and I panicked as though it were me playing the game and getting attacked, grabbing my mouse and keyboard ready to fight. So silly. So hard hard to find gameplay videos of people playing without mods.

Hahaha, I can imagine that. I have done some vanilla but I think it's cos many of us have done soo much vanilla it gets a bit stale. So the modem scenarios help to keep things interesting and change up the play styles

I'm looking forward to this series. I'm pretty new to the game, can't build a functional SV yet, and have never built a CV, and barely left my starter plannet on my two old playthroughs. That said I didn't know I needed the hover bike untill I got to trying in the experimental RC2 build. I never thought the regular bike was bad but the hover bike is amazing. I was messing around and it seems like it technically can fly. Normally you can only get it so far off the ground but the main forward engines can make it go up in the air.

Glad you like the episode, I will factory build in this series as I would recommend that for new players. I hated the bike with a passion so am loving the new version :P You can sort of glide but it is best to have thrust in all directions, building in survival is pretty hard going creative is much easier, though I have done it if you want to see me crash an SV with just one thruster and then build an SV from scratch in survival I do it in this short 4 episode series and that may help you (it's a scenario but a vanilla one) kzbin.info/aero/PLbFyOXKkw8UN3TJwZXHF-s9mo-PhLkdIr

@@7ftdustbunny Yeah as soon as I finished the video I got on Steam and updated. I am disappointed because the patch notes said "Fix: Hoverbike can Fly" and sure enough no more flying hoverbike like when I played Release Candidate 2 version. Noticed that the hoverbike camera is a bit janky too as it jitters up and down rapidly.

@@7ftdustbunny Too true. A buddy and I do some plinking now and then with our hundred year old Mosin Nagant rifles, complete with surplus ammo. In low light those things make quite a fireball due to that old dirty ammo.

It is the standard temperate start there are less hospitable starts in the options but for the guide I went with the default start

Just reinstalled EGS. Watching your video now. I am not sure of the mechanics of this new starter zone. Last time I played this was back in alpha 11/12. I have a small base not textured yet built out of concrete. It's close to the water. Located on the north side of a large lake. I see a cliff side across the lake. I am curious about what is in the water now. Next time I log in I will need to check out the water.

@@7ftdustbunny I am not pushing very fast. Taking it at a slow pace. I need to spawn in an HV or SV just to have a place to store resources. I might just build something that can hold a lot of volume. I didn't see your vehicle in the steam workshop.

You never mentioned which button you pressed to get the drone out when you first mined into the ground for the Silicon. You seem to rush certain things that would be good for a new player like myself to know, as well as going off on tangents that are not relevant at the time. While this was a good introduction, it was rather scattered and made certain things confusing.

I thought I mentioned the drone button (F5) if not then it would be in the next episode. sometimes it gets a bit scattered as it is not a specific map I know so there is a bit of rolling with the punches and covering things as they come up, but I can understand that this approach lacks structure. Some tangents happen lol, but some maybe be trying to guide you to think of something that may be coming in the future. Apologies if some bit seem rushed as a long-term player it is not always easy I may be skipping through thinks some want a deep explanation on

Light armor and the the boosts are freely put on and off without an armour locker, not sure if boosts on medium/heavy armour can be (im a new player, and only just found my first heavier armour)

Any armor can be equipped I think, though they keep changing it but boots and removal of anything but light needs a locker I think

When does the Seed come into play? Your world drop looks exactly like mine. Down to the Protein plant on the left and the Silicon Deposit!

I did think the seed had an impact on the starter world but that may have changed as the whole starter system is tied to the story line. However the galaxy has 100s of systems in total may be in the 1000s and this is cetainly affect by your seed. So I may be a case of it only really starts to impact outside the starter system now

Hi could you do a tutorial on finding hidden objects with the radar and scanner? Atm no tutorial exists, and the ingame tutorial is as helpful as a rotten egg lol

Tbh I'm not 100% on what you are asking do you mean how to scan and how to use the markers around the radar wheel?

Yes, but the scanner doesn't work you have to use the radar with the red markers. This is during the tutorial after finding the farm, you go and dismantle another farm plot and the mission starts, getting to the location close by you have yo search underground for a hidden treasure box. The mission instructions are not clear and I dug around the area and found nothing. Mission states check to see if the radar flips and object is close to the surface so you don't have to dig deep

@@colmaniac I did it in the tutorial and managed to find the hidden loot. The location did not exactly match the indicated location, so treat it as approximate. Its also a really badly done mechanic. A similar idea was done much better in Dual Universe (for mining).

@@Grayson_Phoenix Yup. EGS first launched in Steam Early Access in 2015. NMS release date was in 2016. This game is 9 years old and really looks and feels that way. Kind of reminds me of going back and trying to play Anarchy Online nowadays.
