The dark faction spreads too quickly, weapons degrade too quickly and should be repairable. The issue with an increase in power loss to thrusters (affecting your ships ability to fly) is defeating considering you will basically need the CV as a base against the dark faction. I got stuck on an infected planet and basically was game over for me. Maybe just have weaker shields and weapons, blowing up generators that worked fine 5 minutes earlier is just BS. I like the added content and I hope that the spreading mechanic can be used for factions like the zirax so you could have a galaxy that is more dynamic with the various factions taking over systems. I did try the DLC in Vanilla and it seemed to be ok, but the infected systems were spread around and close to the starting area it should maybe be in a corner of the galaxy and spread very slowly or not at all. Overall it's a DLC that is a good start and hopefully will be used by Modders to increase variety and content of scenarios. I play EGS a lot and I'm glad the developers are making some money on the DLC to hopefully continue adding content and improving gameplay.

In my current game, the infection has already spread to all the planets. My sense is that with my playstyle, that's pretty much inevitable. While it may be possible to, say, attack the Pirates early, take all their stuff and rush through the tech tree, most playthrough stylesare not going to provide the means to attack Dark Pillars before the galaxy is "lost." So I'm just chilling on some Polaris planets, mining away and clearing out Overgroth and Polaris POIs for Symmelite, and working up to my endgame blueprints. Then I'll start retaking planets - given how fast the infection spreads, I think this will be the case for most players that stick with it.

The other thing I'd note is that for corrupted entities, the best weapon to use is probably something like a pulse rifle. It takes a bit of shooting before the enemy health bars go down (some kind of darkfield shield?) but it does everntually do the job. And it's a bad trade to use a sword or bow to kill something that doesn't give you Symmelite, and a good one to use a weapon that uses the same ammo the Corrupted entities will give you in loot.

I am enjoying the DLC so far. The infection spreads faster than I thought. First POI I ran into took me forever to get to the door. I have not made it in yet but working on it. I can definitely say compared to vanilla and even reforged Eden, trying to solo one of these big pillar POI’s is extremely hard. It’s a nice challenge to say the least. (Make a dugout underground at a safe part in front of the POI and drop a tent. Saves travel time)

Really helpful video. It has convinced me this for very hard core players (by hard core I also mean very good players), something which I am not. I have 1000's of hours playing the game. But don't have the twitch factor needed for this. Also, I can see taking out planet after planet endlessly, will get old fast.

-The sword emits a particular lightsaber like sound when the shield is ready. -The DarkFaction can take over completely and the game continues, you just need to liberate systems. - For me, the easier version of towers appeared at Talos, Polaris and UCH homeworlds - After liberated, the planets and systems are much less likely to be retaken, even if everything else has fallen

Thank you for the overview Spanj :) I'll buy the DLC to support Eleon, but I worry I'm rewarding bad behavior... They should be fixing/adding to the base game... after thousands of hours in this game I'd gladly pay for that. Let us turn on the Dark Faction in the base and let us shoot the bugs... the sword looks terrible.

The melee weapon sucks and being forced to use it sucks even more. I like the plot of the DLC obviously taken from Halo (the flood) but the conquest timer moves too fast. Would like to think the other factions would put up more of a fight (I guess they don’t have stupid swords). Need to make a lot of changes with this dlc.

I love your enthusiasm but..... this is so poorly implemented i, with over 4000 hours in the game, am shocked by Eleons amateur production of this scenario ! Putting a timer on indicates a need to rush, even the start rushes you off the ship which apparently does not self destruct, there's no information about where to get more symelite once you've researched all the raw you collected (because you are not aware you should refine it until much later when it's too late). Eventually landing (crashing) on the zirax homeworld you cannot leave or use an sv and there is not a single means to get symelite so essentially it's cheat or restart - very badly written and implemented, we know someone *cough* who could have done a much better job of this. *TIP: If you don't want to cheat and you're stuck on the planet make another T1 generator (you did get some cobalt right ?), switch off all thrusters, move four of your rear thrusters to face down, in the devices menu switch on ALL down thrusters only then you can rise at 6ms. As soon as you're clear press 'O' to level your ship then you can climb up without blowing up your generators !*

No you can still fight back and eventually win if they've taken all planets, it will be difficult and hard work to win from that position though.

I agree 100% with your comment. fortunately I saved before entering the Xirax atmosphere... finally I just spawned in a junk sv, entered the atmosphere and killed myself to respawn onto my cv back in orbit... very lame that I was forced into this... anyways I soon realized I had wasted too much time and the clock was almost full. moving at a crawl with so little progress and the galaxy already lost I had to start again. There is 4 hours of my life I wont get back

From what I have seen so far this isn't for me. I thought this was a true DLC of the game.... But this.....this is something different that just turns me off. Seems Eilion has went down a very very dark hole. Had hoped they had decided to bring the game up to a better standard and Give us more building blocks to play with, and better tech for the game. Glad Bethesda taught me to hold my money till I see what a game is really. Thanks Spanj for showing us what the DLC is and what it provides. Think I'll pass on this one. $10. Bought it just to support the developer bc this game is criminally underrated. Prob won't get into the dlc until summer, if ever (!). Like another post said, this DLC doesn't give me more of what I love about EGS. (Like the somewhat recent Salvage mod omg total heaven!!!).

How about a video explaining what the DLC actually is? Watched this and your livestream and learned almost nothing apart from how to play through the scenario. Jeff Randall's video at least talked about the mechanics of the DLC a bit more. But don’t know if what he said was accurate or not and would be nice if you published something to clarify. E.g. Adding the DLC broke things in the base game and reforged but these have been patched - have they all been patched? The DLC is solo only and the DLC blocks are not available in the base game. That last one is interesting, because Jeff says they aren’t, but someone replied to me in the commments your other video that they are. My current understanding (right or wrong) is that the DLC is just a scenario like Reforged and doesn’t affect the base game (even though people reported new bugs in the base game after installing it). This is Eleon’s bid to rival reforged (maybe) and expand on later with more DLC which will all run off this fork in development whilst leaving the base game unchanged?

What I found and confirmed is the DLC at this time is it's own thing, meaning the assets (blocks, parts, weapons, etc) are only compatible within the DLC and can't be used in the vanilla game or any other modded scenarios like Reforged Eden. But I haven't played the DLC so I have no valid opinion on the content in it. I was disappointed as I am currently working on a few Kriel creations (OPV/POI) type to support Kriel space in both the vanilla game and Reforged Eden. Some of the blocks added in the DLC being organic in nature could be very helpful for the faction however can't be used outside of the DLC so I can't use them at all. So unless you want to specifically build creations for the Dark Faction DLC you cannot use anything from the DLC. Even the base texture palette is unique and not compatible with the vanilla game. Maybe this will change at some point and the content will be made compatible with the main game but I have no idea if or when that would happen. It's doesn't mean the DLC is bad thou, but I definitely believe the content should have been added to the main game and not just in a single player scenario. If I got some information wrong here, please correct me. :) I am not trying to be hurtful to the game or say anything that is not true. The point is if you are primarily a builder like I am, it appears all content is off limits to use building for the vanilla game or any modded scenarios. And great video Spanj! :)

It can be added to a base survival game. It asks you when you start a new one if you would like to add it and I confirmed it was in game by going to the galaxy map and quite a few systems were infected with the darkness. The only thing not confirmed is whether it will spread or not, but it is definitely in the base game too and not just the scenario.

Does the PDA explain where and what the symilite is and can be found or do you just have to try and figure it out for yourself?

Spanj, if it wasn't said yet: you can also add in the Dark Faction elements of the DLC to a Vanilla game when you start a new game. From what I've seen, the Dark Faction will start in a plethora of random systems and then slowly spread. Might be worth a look!

ive attempted to play this twice now in the last 24 hrs since i bought it n have had 2 issues trying to warp to a new area as instructed!!! relogging fixed the first issue while that did nothing for the second issue warping to the next area after the bugs!!!

So, you mentioned raw and processed sym. I would like to mention the refined here and that it is worth even more research points. I have unlocked quite a bit from the amount I gathered at the science station at the beginning of the scenario.

I bought the DLC the day it came out. I may treat it like a Bethesda game and let it sit a little bit in case there's some patches/rebalancing that takes place. It does look interesting though, and I'm looking forward to it.

Would really like to be able to easily convert a block into the cellulite equivalent with a new convertor tool/gun ideally (suspect this isnt in game so dont know) -- they might be able to do a version of thye replace all blocks command or somet (though would prefer on an individual basis ) -- this would allow easy upload of existing ships and conversion as we get the cellulite, a fun mechanic in my eyes --- while yeah we get a ship -- it not My ship as it were.

the dark pillar destroyed me over and over again on foot. I literally had to use all sorts of console commands to even get to the final planet. My ship wouldn't move, and then some how while in god mode the pillar destroyed itself lol. Was not proud of that win.

Tried playing dark faction a day after it launched and the quests don't seem to trigger stages properly. For example when you warp to a new system to go to the uch research facility. I warped there no problem despite the fact that i had to repair the warp drive....

This should be an add on to the original game kinda dumb as a stand alone scenario and can’t be used in creative. I suggest not following the missions get ride of free stuff and spawn in your own so you don’t get stuck and have to restart

it has 2 glitches/issues warping to systems1!! first warp u try wont happen til after u fix warp core n relog; the next one is when trying to get to xenos even relogging doesnt help so ur unable to warp there!!!! nothing to fix either!!!!

Why I don't play Empyrion anymore. 1. It's a very dated game. Compared to other games, it's quite dated in what it is, and how it looks. The characters look like something from 25 years ago. 2. It's repetitive. In reforged Eden, I built a base on Zirax world. There were frequent, but repetitive raids by the Zirax. Occasional bombers and troop ships showed up, only to be instantly wiped out by my turrets. I jokingly referred to them as unscheduled supply deliveries. There was no ramping up of the threat over time, such that eventually a Capital ship or two, or even a fleet would arrive to deal with me. Sure, at the beginning, I should just be seen as a nuisance, but after repeatedly destroying them, they should start taking me more seriously. Those I know still playing this game, do it for one reason. Building ships and bases. That can only entertain me for a little while.

no innovation and this is noting but a copied smash of games failed and not......i could play this for 3-4 hrs and get outright bored...after minecraft came out every dev wanted in on it and you see how its still leaked to other games today. this game is like a incomplete version of SE. people are already expecting a battle pass of sorts because who the devs partnered with.. a game just comes out of early access not finished. DLC out BP on the way... this ***** pisses me off... this game should have stayed in early dev.... as a matter of fact early dev games are the whole damn issue. and greedy companies the other 1/2 of the issue are you people who buy into it

I don't get it. What's the point? Just more items to collect. And you have to pay for this? DLC 's are FREE in Nomansky. Empyrion is still full of bugs. Slow, clunky old world graphics. 12000 hrs in tells me this.

Not completely wrong but traditionally DLC’s used to be called Expansion Packs. Back in the early 2000’s we had to pay for those. If DLC’s were free you’d see micro transactions everywhere. Also, graphics are not everything in a game.

Can you build ships in NMS? Can you build ship board weapons in NMS? What can you build in NMS besides a base on a planet? Nothing. NMS doesn’t have half the content Empyrion has. In NMS: once you’ve seen the first dozen planets you’ve seen every planet in the game. You’re comparing apples to bananas. There’s a day and night difference between both of these games.
