Interesting video, nice catches. I don't know much about how the railroads work over there, but here in the US, rail police don't give a crap. For example, not long ago I reported a guy who got right on a freight train in front of me, and I reported him to BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) as a trespasser and they said they'd check out the train. Unfortunately, the train was in motion as the guy jumped on, so BNSF gave poor effort to look for him and simply let the train leave town. My guess the guy ended up in Vancouver but what the heck, he'll probably hop on another train without being caught.

As a great fan of US railroads in the Uk I can only say that all uk railways must be fenced and kept separate from the general public. It’s a bid sad how people in Britain get so upset by a harmless pedestrian walking on the railway. He was obviously aware of the trains, and offering no harm to anyone. In most other countries I’ve lived in, it assumed that people will act with awareness of their own safety. They cross a railway or a road with eyes and ears paying attention. It seems quite OK for trains to churn out a stream of carcinogenic diesel fumes, endangering the health of all living creatures near the line, but it’s a terrible sin for one man to walk on the track and step aside when there’s a train on the other track.
@aether538 Жыл бұрын
People get upset over it because: It's illegal, It causes delays to people's journey's, It can cause cancellations (especially if someone is actually hit and killed), It can cause a huge amount of trauma to drivers involved in collisions. Basically there is not a single person that can have a good day from someone trespassing on the railway. You said "It seems quite ok for trains to churn out a stream of carcinogenic diesel fumes, endangering the health of all living creatures near the line, but it’s a terrible sin for one man to walk on the track and step aside when there’s a train on the other track.". Does that mean that it's fine to walk on an active runway at a busy airport but politely step aside when there's a plane landing or taking off, or walking along the motorway but stepping aside to avoid a car? Are you completely blind to the clear electrification efforts in order to reduce emissions? Do you have even the slightest idea of what you're even saying? If the countries you've lived in don't have penalties to trespassing on the railway, motorways/highways and airport runways then I ask, what kind of countries have you lived in?

Walking 'round the rails, must be a "BIG NO-NO" in Great Britain! Here in states, rails run through people's back yards (and some front), down the middle of city streets and rarely, are any kind of "No Trespassing" rules, actually enforced! It's usually the "High Speed" rails and rails that carry passenger trains, where those enforcements occur! From the age of 5 or 6 on up, I walked & played on "local rails" and from 11 or 12 on up, I played on high speed / passenger rails! Only once did the Bulls (Railroad Police), ever come after my friends & I and that, was after a long ride on the side of a box car!

@@emt43043 In the clip at 4:25 the driver of the 158 is clearly talking to the man (just behind the bush). So there is some communication going on there, and whatever is being said will have been relayed to BTP. Maybe the driver persuaded him to get away from the area. If OP hadnt phoned BTP for a start the drivers may not have slowed down. As for the man, he didn't look at all well, most likely intoxicated one way or another.

All the way along that stretch the fencing is poor and the Cess backs directly onto the garden fencing of an area of community housing. During the resignalling project there were continued attacks to the signal cable along this section of the MJT1 but it was always difficult to access near the old Beechdale Baths or Woodward lane footbridge
