Thank you for sharing this series with us, the ehru is easily my favorite instrument to listen to. I sadly have little to no musical experience with music outside of a couple years of elementary school lessons on a recorder, but wish I could learn how to play the Erhu out of any other instrument. One day I will perhaps dedicate time to study of musical theory before I take the plunge into playing, and I will definitely keep your store in mind. With gratitude from Canada.

Hi! Great videos and very helpful. Please enlighten me a bit, is it right to say that Shanghai dunhuang erhu have shanghai tone and liu ji feng erhu have beijing tones? And what about Yu Kai Ming's?

I hope someone can answer a question: It appears he is playing with the bow free ( not attached between the strings). If that is what he is doing, can anyone explain the difference..i.e. can the erhu be played with a free bow? I am just trying to learn, and it seems this "free bow" technique would be much easier? Thank you kindly for any response or tips on this.

Ani Fosler hi there! He’s actually playing with the bows attached between the strings. And it seems unlikely to play the erhu with a free bow, as it would be impossible to play the inner string. Hope this helps
