Is there no OBD app that does the job instead of this diagnostic computer?

Having watched this video and having spent my life working as an Electrical Mech Eng I figured that the system must have a work around, so 15 videos latter and it came to me that how would the Car's Processing Module know what I was doing if I carried out the work with the Key kept away from the vehicle, so I did just that and removed the wheal and un-clipped the electrical connector [be gentle here] from ontop of the Caliper and then put 12v -- to the terminals, I made up lead set with at least one end terminated into a female terminal insulated to prevent shorting your cable, I used a Bog Standard Blue Butt in line Connector and put that on first to any of the 2 terminals and then touched the other and if on the wrong way around, just switch the cable around] hey presto 3 Seconds of Motor Noise and the Motor had unwinded the Caliper Motor, but do remember to make sure you have either bought or made a Press Tool to push back the Caliper Piston as this is never going to go back with a thumb push. The rest of the job is all down hill, change your Disc's [so so simple] and pads then re-connect the 12v --- to Drive up the Caliper to the pads, check the wheal is locked by the brakes, then jump in and start the engine and [wheal still jacked up, car chocs in place] take off the handbrake and pop around to check the wheal is running freely, pop back in and put brake on, check all is well, job done. This job took me under 2hrs inc making up the cable terminal and a Press and wait for it, the other side I completed in under 15mins! Like Brexit there will always be those shouting and scaremongering that your car will die and go to hell

@@loopy7057 Keep the Key away from the car, jack up the car and remove the wheal, then put 12v [make up a lead - 2 wires] supply from the Battery on to your Rear Brake Caliper Solonoid [remove electrical Connection to reveal terminals, make sure you do not short out the terminals when applying the 12v supply from the battery], keep switching the live and ground [nuetral] wires until you find that the Solonoid is going back into place and releasing the pressure off the Pads. Once Pads/Disc's changed, simply connect the 12v back onto the soloniod and activate the parking brake, then replace the Electrical Connector back onto the Soloniod. Replace the Wheal, check the brakes are fully on by trying to turn the wheal by hand, then jump in and start the car, take the park brake off as you normally would and check that the wheal is free. Simples, car does not know you have changed the Pads or Disc's Mr Spence Eng

@@apartmentswales awesome. Thank you. Do I need any kind of circuit protection though, like a fuse, in case there are any surges from the battery?

you can un-bolt the motor from the caliper and wind back the internal mechanism using an allen key. it is not complicated but need to take your time. The two bolts holding the motor to the caliper can be extremely tightly stuck in the aluminium casting so be extremely careful not to round off the hex form. also the bolt heads might be full of muck due to the location so try to scrape out the hex form so your key will grip properly. the motor will adjust itself when re-installed u dont need any computer thankfully......

Thank you for your comments, regarding your question for the use of an diagnostic tool to do the work. Yes it is advised to use a suitable diagnostic tool to rewind the parking brake motors, then reset after the brake discs and pads have been replaced. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for watching our video, the electronic parking brake system relies on many sensors, which are monitored by the brake ECU. There is not a simple answer to your question.

does anyone know where you can buy a replacement parking brake motor ? you can buy spare for VW / Audi approx £40 - but hyundai can only seem to buy as complete caliper £300 !!! there is nothing wrong with the caliper only the crappy plastic lugs on the parking brake motor!!!!!

Thank you for viewing our video, hope you found it informative. Unfortunately neither the rear brake caliper or the handbrake motor are currently available in the Blue Print range for the i40. The vehicle manufacturer only lists the complete unit, as you have stated. Your comment has been pasted to our research team for future development, to compliment our range.Thank you.

Thanks for reply - and yes your videos are very well put together. also your pads and discs are good i have bought them for other cars but not for the hyundai yet. this video for i40 was particularly helpful to give some forewarning that the suspension bar needs to be unbolted to get access to the caliper bracket bolts and therefore to allow some extra time for the job and have a decent breaker bar handy.
