This is Soda Stereo. The 1996 MTV "not unplugged" special named "Comfort and music for flying" A year after this Soda splitted and Gustavo pursued his solo artist carreer. Soda Stereo is the only band I know that has 2 spectacular totally different versions of the same song. La Ciudad de La Furia original version is also fantastic.

This is an amazing version of this song. The guest artist is Andrea Echeverri from the Colombian rock band Aterciopelados. One of the few women in Spanish rock at that time, amazing music.

This song has double meaning, which is a tradition that Argentine rock developed under dictatorship, to pass trough censorship. The fake meaning is about a mythical winged man, a nonsensical history borrowing from the greek mity of Icarus. But the real meaning is about a political prisoner killed by the dictators, threatening to fall back in revenge over his murderers. Cerati could not be open about it, even after the dictatorship ended, because he toured to other neighbor countries still under dictatorship. That is why he rages, and the final solo is tragic and melancholic. But due to the subtlety of the double meaning, a lot of people doesn't understand what the song is about, and this version expresas the message of telling "something you do not understand", "in your face". You can pick if for the emotions in the voices. The dictators had a trial for the genocide they commited, but they still had some power after the return of democracy, so people was fearful, and they managed to avoid jail. That's why the song says that the city is fearful "susceptible", and that's "the fury". The songs is threatening with revenge, so in the end (in the album), it says with a fading voice "you will see me return (to punish you)", which is the name of the tour the band made in 2007: "me verás volver". The official video has images showing the prisoner that dies and becomes a winged man. The dictatorship used to trow the victims from a plane into a large river (so large that it seems like an ocean). I tell you this, because there is another song, by another band, named "Vuelos" ("flights"). It was made on the 2000's, when the genocides were trialed and finally jailed. That song by the band Bersuit is connected to this one. It tells the story from the perspective of the victim being thrown from the plane, telling to his executioner that he will fly and fall on his head. Is the song that closes the story with the avenging.
