Terry's mid may be weak which is why she doesn't hold notes in her mid range.. but she can go higher in her falsetto range.. she the highest one of them four... Maxine can't go NEARLY as high as terry in chest OR head.. but i must admit maxine's voice has this quality to it.. its mesmerizing.. i find her tone the most distinctive outta all four of them

I also want to say I'm a little embarassed when I hear people say that the music of their generation was the best. @hesjr1972 Brownstone shared lead as well at least between Maxi and Nicci. I wouldn't compare them to EV though except to say that in the 90s there just so many quality harmony groups around. Each very good in their own right. EV are special though. Everything just comes together. Saw them a couple of days ago live in London. What a show! I was an excited little girl all over again ;-)

@Lordfinese19 Sales don't really mean anything when it comes to comparing talent and class. Sales is more marketing (and the factors BEHIND marketing) and timing. So to say one group is better because they had more sales, is a bad argument. EV and DC obviously had different relationships with their labels. EV also had a lot more talented competition. DC came out in an era when music was getting crappy, focusing more on image than substance.

@ilindah but see the only reason Beyonce carried it is because the arrangements were still built around her. in En Vogue the leads were chosen by whose voice best sold the song and the arrangements then were built around them. In DC, it didn't matter who was singing lead the songs were built around Beyonce's voice, which is why so much of Kelly's phrasing was so much like B's and why her voice can be heard so prominently in the backgrounds.
