I remember when this single dropped! It was like the rebirth of the Supremes or Ronnettes. And those 1990s huge, wide wood shavings curls and sequined slip dresses! This video was a total smoke show but the production on this beat was off the hook -- there's that James Brown guitar sample, the flute, that clav keyboard floating around in the background, the orchestra hits, the crescendos and scales -- it all worked so, so well together. This is THE definitive girl group track from the New Jack Swing era. Foster & McElroy, the producers, absolutrely crushed it on this one. Virtuosity.

Dawn left the group because they weren't making any money, triple platinum and still not making enough to survive on. Those record deals were murder. TLC, Toni Braxton, New Edition and a shit load of other performers were getting cheated. The 90's may have been an era of Great Music but it was also the Era of the Record Companies taking advantage of their artist. That's why we don't have great music anymore, those record companies killed it in the 90's and early 2000's with their greed

Especially the way they overcharged for CDs. Napster and LimeWire were the record industry's just desserts for cheating great artists...

Money was part of it, but equally important to Dawn at that time was that she was promised to be able to make a solo album just like Terri was allowed to, but after Terri's album and while in between albums 2 & 3, they scored a big hit with "Don't Let Go", which was on a soundtrack, and this caused the label to force the ladies to do a group album (their 3rd) titled "EV3". This hurt Dawn's feelings and caused her to voluntarily exit the group only to wind up signing to Aftermath Records as a solo artist, put her solo dream on hold again and join Lucy Pearl, which lasted a pre-planned year. I think joining Lucy Pearl hampered her career, in my opinion.

this video deserves a hundred millions more views
@VonAllenMusic6 жыл бұрын
Actually, the fact this only has so few views compared to say Beyonce or Adele is because those view numbers are absolutely fake. Take this song for example. This song is one of the most famous songs in the history of music. I guarantee that anywhere in the free world back then, at least 70% of the population not only knows this song but can sing the lyrics. It's going to be very hard to replicate that with any Beyonce song, or Lady Gaga or even Adele. Yet, they have a Billion views, literally, you read that right, a Billion views yet this song has 1.7 million, but probably a bit more spread out from other uploaded versions. Those hundred of millions of views for Beiber and all of that shit is mathematically impossible actually. Especially in a world where music means less to people now than ever in history. If you want to know the real tallies of the modern views, look to these songs like En Vogues to gauge a legitimate viewing. Granted the newer artists will have more just from being hyped but nothing that would get them to even 200 million, let alone a Billion.
@jakesalisbury97165 жыл бұрын
Æron VonAllen ever thought to consider that this song is old so it’s not going to get that many views? Whereas actually most people know a lot of for example Adele songs.

IMO En Vogue is the greatest girl group ever. I say that because The Supremes was comprised of Diana as lead singer with Mary and Flo as backing vocalists. Everyone in En Vogue had a solo and played an equal role in the success of the group. We know that all three members of The Supremes had talent but Berry was partial to Diana and we never knew what Mary and Flo could do had they been given solos. Destiny's Child is no comparison. All four from EV could out sing any member of DC. EV had greater harmony and their performances were far tighter than anything that DC could ever imagine.
