As an Ethiopian from the northern highlands, I found out that my DNA results came 30% Southeastern Hunter Gatherers(ancestors of khoisan) which originated from Ethiopia thousands years ago and the other half is the Semitic and Cushitic Afro-Asiatic family, like Ancient Egyptian, Hebrews, Queresh and Yemen. I have distant relatives in Isreal, Middle East and Europe. There's only one human race with different skin color, hair texture and eye color due to natural mutations.

It means that the majority of your ancestors are Khoisan or part of a similar ethnic groups. The majority of Khoisan people can be found in South Africa and Namibia but dont forget: 1.)Khoisan also exist in other African nations. For example todays Angola (a country from where many slaves where taken) 2.) People moved around the continent and assimilated into other African Societys before the arrival of europeans 3.) Bantu as well as Khoisan are not a real ethnicity's. They are language groups. Some african people that are considered "Bantu" because of the language they speak and the location and culture they live in may have Khoisan DNA (and features). 4.) Some scientists believe that the Khoisan used to inhabit all of subsaharan Africa before the so called Bantu expansion.

You are right about he origin of the word. "Bantu" or "Bantoid" is also used as a (loose) linguistic classification for a language family. Language familys are languages that are similar on a lager scale, with similar characteristics and sound patterns. In colonial times and during Apartheid the Term was misused to make a distinction between different Africans. People today act as if "Bantu" or "Khoisan" is an own ethnicity or race, wich is not completely true. When people refer to "Bantu" as a people today they usually mean people with ancestors spoke languages of the Bantu language family.

The Khoisan can be regarded as being separate to the Coloureds, much like the Germans being regarded as separate to the Afrikaners, in Namibia. Not by choice. The mixing happened on a larger scale and with cultural death with the Europeans. The Khwekhwe as I know them also mixed with Nguni speakers (see Xhosa) but it didn't destroy their culture or blood. They fled the Cape into Nambia etc after the Europeans.
