I really appreciated this backstory. It shows an understanding for the past generation on what they’ve went through. Let alone touching upon a dark subject in history that we often don’t wanna think about.

This scene recreates the "Colombian internal conflict" For many decades many families have lost their homes and loved ones, mainly in rural areas as a result of violence unleashed by terrorist groups on the far right and left. The Madrigal family is a resistant family, like so many others families in Colombia.

First Butterfly, Alma meets Pedro, marries and becomes a family. Second Butterfly, Casita comes to life, gives magic and miracle a personification with the Madrigals Third Butterfly, the voices now being heard out loud, no longer held back and now the magic has been revived by the one thing that appeared ever since the first butterfly. Love.

It's sadder when you know the context behind this scene. From the 1840s to present day Colombia has been enduring endless civil wars for political rivalries between liberals and conservative sympathizers, forcing common people to leave their homes and their lives behind. Abuelo Pedro's death was only one of sooo many...

So Abuelas admit that it was her fault for pressuring the whole family to be perfect with their gift and look down on Mirabel since she's the only one in the family that didn't get a gift. I bet Abuelas also regret her own action that the Miracle was dying because of her own action too.

I have an theory. I think that Pedro had magic in him. So when he sacrificed himself, he gave his magic to his candle and handed it to abuela. The candle was placed in Casita, Which also means that Pedro's magic was in the candle and his life was placed in the house. Basically that means that Pedro is living another life with his family and is there for his family. And you see how Casita was always helping Mirable at the time she needed help? That would also mean that Pedro was there for Mirable when she needed someone. I might be wrong, but it's an theory.
@kpopstertube35632 жыл бұрын
My theory is the magic was born because of Pedro's sacrifice. And yes, his spirit is with the magic of the candle that gave life to the Casita. 😊

I was struck by the contrast of the first telling of the situation where they had to flee and the miracle. Where after they got the Casita things were fine. But in this retelling you see alma sitting in her safe magical house but still completely gutted at the loss of her husband and the three tiny babies in her arms. Like it’s not that simple, grief. Alma later Abuela had to keep everyone safe, and it became her only focus.

Cause the fact they felt the need to attack so many houses yet leave all the goods behind just to kill off refugees suggest serious beef. I mean why use full forces (if there were more they would have found the survivors by now ) track down a few stragglers? Edit - thank you all for answering my question fine people. @jigg98243 жыл бұрын
I will explain you. The movie is based in the civil wars that Colombia lived in the beginning of 20th century. “Conservadores” and “Liberales” political parties killed a lot of people and destroyed many towns. So the people had to move (like Abuela and Abuelo Pedro in the movie), called “Desplazamiento Forzado”. These ages in Colombia are known as “La Violencia”. -Told by a Colombian ;D
@omarmartinezcaro17483 жыл бұрын
It is a problem that Colombia has had for more than 50 years, between two political parties, currently still those problems of forced displacement of peasants with the so-called paramilitaries, formed by ex president Alvaro Uribe Velez, who do not understand why the mayor of Miami gave a name to a street.. WTF???
