I'm not saying Rock-a-Doodle is even a good movie, but just look at Warner Brother's Iron Giant, it completely and utterly bombed at the box office. They lost 50 million dollars and it cause Warner Brothers to never even consider making a theatrical animated movie again. Then once it was released on VHS, it exploded, easily making back it's budget, and went on to become critically acclaimed. That being said, this game looks like it's more than just someone tracing over Cuphead with their own characters. There is talent and effort behind this game. Discrediting it because it looks like something more popular is like turning your nose up at Felix the Cat because he looks and moves like Mickey Mouse.

I'm going to be real with you guys, the boss design is great and the animation is also pretty good, but this gameplay is TOO MUCH identical do Cuphead, you guys have something special going for, just change the way the main characters play to be more original and you guys can have a really good game and also original The dislikes in this video kinda makes me sad because I know how hard is to make animation and I know that this took a lot of work, but you can't deny that is too much Cuphead on the gameplay, even the dash on the air is there, there is so much stuff you can do with a boss rush, if the characters feel unique and different to play I garantee this can be it's own thing

​@@HDcreature Do you know how much work would go into reskining Cuphead? Changing nothing but the textures would be a months long process. Then, on top of that: the boss patterns look completely different; the characters move completely different and have status effects that don't exist in cuphead, (see the blue wizard get smashed by the hammer in the graveyard). It's immediately apparent that this game isn't a reskin but a cuphead-like. The same way we have rogue-likes and back in the day, we had doom-clones. It's in the same genre as cuphead, but it's doing enough of it's own thing.

I wouldn’t call this a ripoff as it has actual effort put in to it, I would more call this a fan game, I would actually love to see this fully developed. I do have some problems however. For example the cow boss whilst having some originality, it looks exactly like dr khals robot and the devil fight. Overall though, I would give this a 7/10 (ps I really like the Cerberus and Beethoven fights)

Watching this just makes me sad. There's SO MUCH potential in this, with the amazing character and setting designs, but that potential is lost because of the gameplay and soundtrack being much too similar to Cuphead. If the game changed its sountrack style to a more whimsical, magical feel, and focused more on platforming than bosses, then this would be something I'd be more than willing to play.

It's not really a ripoff if it's part of a genre because if that's the case then isn't any Battle Royale game copying from H1Z1 like Apex legends, and Fortnite?The thing with enchanted portals is that the developers has said that PORTALS will be an integral part of their gameplay. I just don't know why they didn't even show the mechanic yet but we still can't judge the game until they release some more info. So technically it's kind of different but I don't know why they didn't show any gimmick that made it unique. But besides that cuphead is following the same gameplay as metal slug just with a few differences.

I hope this post will be a constructive one, and won't come off as overly negative or disheartening. Cuphead is a fantastic game, and there's no shame in being inspired by, borrowing heavily from or even outright stealing something from a fantastic game, but Enchanted Portals risks seeming creatively bankrupt overall, since so much of its general style has been lifted from elsewhere. Which is a shame, because everything seems competent on an individual level, and there are certainly many creative and fun designs and details here (I'm a big fan of the mom and dad pictures in the UFO especially; gives me a delightful Gary Larson vibe), that are overshadowed by the sheer amount of Cuphead inspiration on display. There is clearly talent behind this project. All this artwork and animation is very impressive to me - especially since it's being done by only one person. However, I think it would be wiser to borrow the Cuphead gameplay, as that is something that many crave, but at the same time steer the general audiovisual presentation away from Cuphead, in order to stand out more and avoid being called a mere clone or being compared unfavourably to the already widely worshipped efforts of a larger team. I feel bad suggesting this as it's clear that a ton of time, love and effort went into what we're seeing here (I dabble in artwork myself, and I know what it's like to pour countless hours into a piece only to have someone want you to redo it in part or whole), but ultimately I think it would increase the game's chances of success and I definitely believe the artist has the chops to come up with something that could be Enchanted Portals' very own style. I wish you the best of luck with the Kickstarter, and I'm gonna keep an eye out for the game if it hits the Switch's eShop in the future, but I also hope you'll be able to bring something that will set this project apart from Cuphead in some significant way, in terms of presentation or gameplay.

Like I said before, I'm hoping to see them differentiate this project from Cuphead, and gameplay is certainly one thing that could be switched up. I suppose my focusing on the visuals is more a matter of that, as far as I'm concerned, a game concept should start with a gameplay idea and then have visuals and audio designs added later. If these devs want to make a Cuphead of their own because they love the gameplay, then the visuals should be treated as a secondary element. I get that pretty much majority of games are inspired of other games (hell Cuphead is pretty much a Contra-esque game with Boss Rush elements) but what stands it apart on its own is new concepts added to the mix and a really unique classic cartoon aesthetic. No one denied that the game referenced other side-scroller shoot em ups/platformers (hell, even the devs know what they're inspired from) but no one thought it was a blatant copy because the devs put heart and soul alongside creativity to Cuphead...and there are a multitude of other games in different genres that attempt this same effort of taking existing concepts and either putting a new spin on it or improving on existing concepts...Enchanted Portals, is simply a reskin. Almost like a Chinese knockoff. Nothing new besides a little bit of character artwork has changed. Its just Cuphead with a different theme. They expect us to back them and support their efforts through Kickstarter but I don't see anything here that makes me want to go out and buy/support this game. All Enchanted Portals does is make me want to play Cuphead again.

Honestly, I think this is getting more attention _because_ it's good. It is very similar to Cuphead, but unlike most ripoffs, there's a lot of effort that went into it. People will pay more attention it than just some random little game

One thing is taking inspiration and another things is basically making the same game with just a few tweaks. No disrespect to the developers but the comparisons are inevitable and they seem to be actually pushing for that
