We have a family friend who is Orthodox (by faith but not baptized). Whenever she tried to get baptized (two attempts) she would get very ill and would need to leave church. I'm so close to becoming a catechumen. Social interactions is not a strong suit and I have trouble forming connections. Even when visiting my local parish. So it's an excruciatingly slow process for me to even get this far. But everything said in this stream resonated with me. Things seem to always align to keep me from going to church. To taking more steps to be social with the church. I get "in my head" and end up ruining it all. Pray for me. I trying to press in through what feels like a sea of glue.

I TOTALLY get this brother! I am finally a catechumen but the demonic attacks have increased dangerously high to the point of near desolation. I completely relate and your comment could have been my comment. I am so sorry my dear brother, I will pray for you. About to go to Divine Liturgy so I will join prayers to the liturgy for your sake. I will also offer up all of my suffering for you.
@maryanderson8662 ай бұрын
Father Paul is extraordinary. He was my son's spiritual father while my son was at the University all four years. My son George had the privilege to serve at his altar. I can attest that such evil and attacks have come upon my family. Satan and his whole army of dark angels have done everything they could to keep us out of the Orthodox churches. Literally. Sometimes using human beings as their tools. But I relentlessly hung on and hung on and hung on. Recently however I stopped going to church myself and was only praying at home. My children were going but I had one excuse after the other because I also had anxiety at the thought of going to church. Before the Dormition, I promised Panagia then I would never miss another service and I had been going back now regularly to Vespers and Divine Liturgy. For the sake of Panagia, whom I love, and my children and my own self, I will attend services come what may. I got back to holy reading also, which I had neglected Regular sacraments including confession and holy mysteries and also corporate prayer with other believers is what keeps us in the present moment and keeps away demonic oppression.

Amazing and timely advice from father Paul. This is exactly what this generation needs to talk about in church becuase we have been lost to this crazy New Age spirtuality. Like you I have also studied in the midst of the Lefties and though myself quite democaratic but studying Culture and Media made me realise the agenda that is going on at universities. But as father Paul says maybe I had to see it for what it actual is to get me closer to my Orthodox ways, I actually started advocating against this lefties agenda and tried to show people what popular culture is doing to us; now I feel like it's time to be silent, observe and pray. Thank father Paul what a humble man of God and David for bringing this amazing discussion/sermon to us.

Thank you so much for this conversation. Father Paul, is it necessary for someone to try and have to figure out whether one is having a bout of PTSD or whether it's a demonic attack? Or, are PTSD attacks always partially or fully demonic attacks? My therapeutic counseling help, before becoming Orthodox, may not be the best course of action if it's actually a demonic attack. While I know my PTSD has been healing more since being in the Church ---- 4 years Nov----- when they occur it seems I get tripped up in an entirely more complex way and the psychological therapeutic approach may be at odds with the spiritual? I am 66 now and this is wearying trying to figure out. Any books or further lectures anywhere you can direct me to? Thank you 🙏

Brother, your input if you may... I am not sure if it is nihilism I struggle with. Nihilism tends to operate within the bounds of the 'subject' and 'individual' and grants it on the basis of unquestioned Western presuppositions of philosophy rooted in the ancient Greek philosopher's beleif in the subject.- The "self vs reality" as if that contrast has been justified.... Has it? I am struggling between dialectical materialism & Heidegger's phenomenology (his views on being and subject) vs the trancedantal Christian argument. Marx's theory of knowledge is also a grand challenge in my eyes. I abhor Marxism due to the lack of meta-ethical justification for its claim of historical "progress." I abhor that I have seen few to no Orthodox Christians comment on it or debate marxists in order to deconstruct their many philosophical and meta-ethical errors. I am left with dread, with discontents against both the left and the right. And yearning for any organized philosophical critiques of Marxist ethics that reflect my views. It is like there is this great filthy dragon is before a fortress, and the men of defense lie in slumber!

Thoughts only have the power to affect the one who thinks them. If we consent to impassioned thought, and carry out in deed the malice we feel, either by word or deed, then we harm the other person. Otherwise, the result of malice or hatred in the soul only has the effect of cutting that person off from God's grace. What kind of world would we be forced to inhabit if everything we thought and felt was transmitted to our environment? It would not be possible to conduct a spiritual struggle in the way the Fathers describe, by working back from deeds and words to dealing with impassioned thinking. It would not seem fair for God to not allow us to choose between the thoughts we accept and those we reject in order to change the way we interact with people and the world. We would have no choice but to do constant harm, even involuntarily, especially at the beginning of our struggle when such impassioned thoughts are powerful and difficult to control. If it is possible to transfer energy by thought, why are the lives of the saints not full of accounts of these powers? Why did Christ and the Apostles not mention them? Why do we not find the sin of thought transference in the guides to confession? Because it doesn't exist and has never been a natural power of man. God did not create us telepathic, and there is no separate, impersonal force that can be projected from person to person in a mysterious way without the cooperation of the demonic realm by a deceptive appearance. A Number of World Orthodox “Saints”teach this. I would argue that Elder Thaddeus’s book does not teach this. Elder Porphyrios does however.

Harry Nazarian , no tattoo and more so if the tattoo is of a Cross. Holy Canon 73 Trullo: "Seeing that the life-giving Cross has shown us the way to salvation, we ought to make every endeavor to render the honor deserved to that which has been the means whereby we have been saved from the old fall. Hence both in mind and in word and in sentiment paying it veneration, we by all means command that imprints of the Cross on the ground made by some persons be erased, lest the symbol signifying the trophy of victory to us be desecrated by being trodden upon by people walking over the ground. We therefore decree that henceforth those who make the sign or imprint of the Cross upon the ground shall be excommunicated." I would seriously consider removing one part of the tattooed Cross so it doesn't resemble one anymore and there's no risk of profanating it by somehow sitting on it, but talk to a Priest nonetheless.

I'm pretty black pilled but I had an epiphany of the importance of God's virtue when I lost a one in a million chance brief relationship with a certain woman far out of my league who resembled my celebrity crush from my childhood and she had a morbidly promiscuous past and left me to return to night life and money. I live in a situation that's pretty dead end and bleak to "manifest" my potential or some new age sounding crap. I was kinda exceptionally athletic with an overwhelmingly crushing vexatious dream to marry or impress a woman/women as beautiful as the chick I lost and I have to watch weaker men who'll apparently never care about God in five million lifetimes aquire so easily what I begged God for ages repetitively unto insanity LOL 🤣 but the epiphany landed around the same time I discovered Orthodox Chants and Icons and the Rosary and Saint Michael prayer and etc and I was mesmerized and became a vehement troll to protestantism and evangelicalism that evidently made me cringe at God. I was born and saturated in protestantism and it was so cringe to me that I became an ardent heavy metal/rock n roll worshiper dabbling my interests in some occultism and started to constantly curse God out of obscurity and covetousness. The sleep paralysis is gone, being a spontaneous hair trigger rageaholic or furtive doomer is still looming within. Satan is the proprietor of chomos and tyrants and God's virtue is far greater than the lust of the abyss. Problem is, when you're this poor , the only potentially monogamous women are fat LOL 🤣 Hail Marry Christ is Risen!
