I love the British folks propensity for understatement. “Not bad”!! It was fabulous, planning, budgeting, sleekness, clean lines, yet maintaining the historic features!! Well Done!

To rehab the house for $40,000 would be unheard of in the U.S. Have no doubts about your own house, with the skill and work you and James (and the lovely "Linda") have executed, you will get it done and it will be beautiful. Looking forward to what you share in the future. Best regards to all!

The 40k does not include the value of their skilled labor for 17 mos.
@nesc39 Жыл бұрын
@@maryhduke2307 When people make these videos and say “I did all this for only X dollars” they need to explain to people that it does not include the cost of labor AND they need to emphasize its going a cost at least as much as the materials. Without that information they are creating false expectations for future homeowners, and aggravation for the tradesmen who do the work. I’ve only watched the long video of them renovating the house in Portugal, so I don’t know anything about this guy other than what I saw but he is not just an average joe. His is very experienced in a wide variety of trades. Whether he has done this for a job his whole life or whether he has just done a ton of research and practice on his own property it doesn’t really matter, the point is he knows what he is doing and his knowledge is worth alot of money. He did the work of a plumber, a roofer, an electrician, drywall, a plasterer and a carpenter. He knew which products to use, where to get them when He had quality helpers, I can’t speak for labor prices and other countries but this would be a minimum of $150,000 in America.

Yes I'm one of the people who've watched your 17 month's work on the house in the village. I'd forgotten just how bad it was. What a magnificent job you and James have done (with occasional help from Christina and a friend). Congratulations. Your planning, budgeting and expertise, not to mention hard work, paid of. Thank you Andy for doing the before and finished house video. You guys. What a transformation, from a downright wreck to a beautiful home. You guys sweat blood and tears, through the frustrations of having to sack sub-contractors and doing the work yourselves to the scorching heat of an Algarve summer, a badly injured hand and so much more .... and working on your own property such as digging out the old well and constructing a new one. I''m really looking forward to seeing what miracles you can perform on your own property. Thank you for bringing us all along on your journey.

Many congratulations to you all for completing a project to such a high standard. No doubt you, James and Christina must have felt that weight on your shoulders lifting when the sale was done and dusted. The new owners must know how much hard (and smart) work was involved to create an outstanding transformation and produce such a lovely home and, to do so within the tight budget as you described is almost unbelievable... but, seeing it's you, Andrew, we believable you! Time to take in a deep breath, head for the beach, sink a few (or more) beers and relax,,,,, well, for at least a week! Well done - an achievement for which all of you should be justly proud. PS Good to see the water tanks are still standing and acting as a leaves reservoir at the moment!

Due to the artistic skills of the team -- and the pride you all took in your work -- the house is a masterpiece! The only thing I might have done differently is to put a faucet on the roof deck and another in the courtyard. Imagine if the new owner likes a plant or two or three and has to schelp watering cans of water up and down the stairs and the alleyway. I would keep that in mind when you are doing your house. Congrats :o)

Congratulations to all three of you. It's been a tough journey at times but you've smashed it. Oh and you were right about the false tiles cover, it fits in beautifully within the village. It's so much more pleasing to see an old house restored than the Lego design boxes that are sadly being built up and down the country. What you delivered was a traditional Algarve house that blends in with its settings and a wonderful home for generations to come. The fact you stayed on budget was the cherry on the cake. Well done all! As Big Chris (Vinny Jones) said at the end of Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, 'It's been emotional'.
