From ruin to beautiful home. This rural Algarve village house was on it’s last legs. Knocking down and starting again wasn’t an option. We saw potential and took on the challenge to restore it’s original character and charm for the modern day.
Seeing through the rubble and mess in the courtyard, this had the potential to be a beautiful space to relax, Wine and dine.
The idea was to create a canvas for the next owner to have the opportunity to create their own secluded paradise.
18 month renovation start to finish.

Fabulous courtyard. I envision large palms in terracotta pots for shade, and shade cloths, and a big, rustic outdoor table seating at least 12.

Wow!!! I chat believe I have now spent 10 minutes just watching a guy a dont know, in a house I will never visit, jig saw puzzling a court yard floor back into full glory stone by stone! I have watched the whole thing, by the way and also the full restoration of the house itself. Unless you are completely exhausted (hope to God you're not 🙂) you guys must be in phenomenal shape from all that physical labour. Whatever that house sells for and no matter how much you make, it is not enough!

I think if had been me, I would have done a full demo, saved as much of the original stone to reuse if they could be cleaned. then desgned the courtyard for more modern living without losing the old school charm.

Portuguese folks see us sitting out in the sun and think we are a lil bit mad... so its no surprise the state of that outside space...imagine being the poor animals subjected to living out there... Now you have transformed it into a beautiful GARDEN area, a place to unwind and relax.... its not even recognisable as before and after... but wow what an after... well done Christina James and Andrew, on a job massively well done... and although not an instructional video... I learned lots from it :)

Lovely results. To that courtyard sparkling in the sun with small, white pebbles the wind next Spring will send dust with hardy seeds that will embed themselves. Remember what it looked like at the start? And again when you came back after spectacularly finishing the house? How’d those plants get up there? The moisture barrier protects what is below but roots will love the moisture above it. You’ve created a lovely mulch for growing things. You’ll see. You, or a subsequent owner, will pave it over eventually. And install a hot tub. Fantastic work. Today my body decides to react to Covid booster. Your videos are the perfect antidote. Thanks and blessings.

That style of construction using Stone, Bricks, Tiles and Mortar looks very attractive, but here in New Zealand is unfortunately impossible. We have too many large Earthquakes. In 1859 we had an 8.3 with the Epicentre only about 15km away from where I now live. It was so big, it even shook all the big trees down!
