anything CS Lewis is so great for the holiday season. They can definitely be on the more difficult side but such a rewarding read! Perfect to recenter yourself on the reality of Christ and the reason for the Christmas season. Id personally recommend reading Screwtape in the fall for a more serious spooky vibe. So excited for bookmas!❤

Hey Des! I wanted to share my story because I feel like it might help you and maybe some other people. I have never related to anyone more than you, I get anxious so easily, I get burnt out around people, I always feel like a burden and am constantly apologizing. Recently I got diagnosed with autism and it has changed my life, I did a lot of research and found so many people exactly like me. I had always associated autistic people as people who can't take care of themselves and function in the world but that is the farthest from the truth-it is simply what media shows us. I am a strong capable young woman and I love my life. The diagnosis does not change you but it simply gives you a sense of calm that you are not alone. If this resonates with you Des or anyone reading this, it might be worth it to look for psychiatrists in our area and ask for an evaluation. The result might simply be "you're just an anxious person" but it might be a diagnosis that helps you understand and love yourself better. Let's break the stigma around mental health ❤❤❤

i am also on the spectrum and have been thinking this for a long time, the way des talks about her mental health screams undiagnosed neurodivergent to me, it doesn’t feel like she’s “just anxious”, i see her as a “the world is a difficult place to live in and it wasn’t made for me” type of girly which is exactly how i feel lol. i’m so happy you got your diagnosis, for me it completely changed my life for the better. sending love bestie, hope you’re doing well and taking care during these holiday times 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

My biggest letdown of the year was Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin. I made a Barnes run just to pick it up and read it immediately after and ended up giving it 3 stars. I closed it and I was like “that’s it? That’s what the hype was about?” and it left such an empty feeling inside lol

Pride and Prejudice has been a favorite movie of mine for years since it came out in 2005. This year I decided to read it. I really enjoyed listening to it since with was one of my first classic novels to read. I feel like the audio book made it easier to grasp and understand so I’d recommend reading it that way. It’s great for banter, romance, family, female friendships. Also it’s a “enemies to lovers” type of romance. Anyway, I personally really loved it. It was a 5 stars for me.

I would love to see you read Night Road. I read it because it was on KU and I feel like I haven’t seen anyone talking about it. Which I think is sort of weird because I feel like a lot of the book creators have KU. It made me sob to the point where my husband had to ask if I was ok. It was so good. It’s not really historical fiction, it’s more stories about women. And I think KH has a blurb in her acknowledgment about how that is what she writes, women at some point in time, dealing with their circumstances. I hope you like it!

red rising books are only enjoyable when binged imo. I also struggled through golden son for a few months, got to like 50 pages in, put it down half another 6 months, picked it up again and then read it quickly and got obsessed. the audio books are great too so if you find yourself dragging try to listen instead. I just finished morning star right before I started watching this video lol. red rising is the weakest in the series. if you can push yourself to binge golden son and still don't like it then just stop, but I have a feeling you'll love it. good luck!
