It’s so refreshing to watch a talk about burnout where the person actually gets to the root cause! Really great talk. The cause of burnout has one word = NEGLECT.

Wow... this talk hit me deeply. I have lost count of how many times I have thought or said, "I have no choice". Sharing a humble background and now holding a management position on a top financial firm, unfortunately I share the pattern of making decisions out of fear, over working myself and dealing with insomnia. I hope that like you, one day I can break out of this cycle.

High five and thank you for listening! It is the hardest thing to say "Me First" but when we do, we start to see things so much more clearly. I couldn't see it for so long. I was paralyzed in fear. Thank you again. Every single comment I read makes me more and more happy that I took the plunge and shared my story!

One of many great Tedx Talks. I've been down her road. When I finally became aware of the root causes of what drove me I started making much better choices of what I needed to do. Getting to the root cause is so important to our understanding and personal growth. I suggest watching her video again, then asking yourself, "Why do I keep doing this?" WHY is a powerful word. You have to keep asking WHY until you get to the real cause. If you don't get to the root cause you will not be working on the right solution. Just this morning I was meeting with my 7th grade TeamMate and I asked him why he wanted to stay on the A honor roll. He said he wanted his mother to be proud of him. When I ask him, why again, he admitted he wanted his mother to love him. In other words, he feared that his mother might not love him if he did not get on the honor roll. .
@LizAguirreMD Жыл бұрын
Steve, thank you for sharing your thoughts and pointing out the critical need to dig deep and figure out the root cause. It is absolutely true. If we don't figure out WHY we are making certain decisions, it is hard to change. Hearing the story of the 7th grade TeamMate is heart breaking to me. All of us have had different challenges. Some big. Some small. Some that seem small but are really very big. In the end, it often is the fear that gets us. Thank you again for watching and your comment.

Liz! Thank you for this amazing speech. I keep in mind that we're burnt out and stressed because of fear. The solution is not to eliminate fear, but to go through it.

Your talk was amazing! I certainly can relate to professional burnout. I would say that I may be quadruple certified and always recognized the signs of it. Your words you spoke are the same words I used. Our own childhood experiences that make us stronger also contribute to giving others more than what we give ourselves. My latest professional burnout had the universe hitting me between the eyes with a reminder that it is time for you to take care of you. This medical situation knocked me, a healthy and fit person, off of my feet. Stress and lack of work-life balance led me to serious health issues. Now, it is necessary to take care of me, not my family or the community. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment Angela. The hardest thing to do is to prioritize ourselves above the ones we love. I'm sorry to hear about your medical situation but I am so glad to hear that you have committed to prioritizing yourself! "Me First"

Start with sleep. Always start with sleep. Give yourself a non-negotiable 7-8 hour sleep window at the same time every single day if you can. Get up at the same Time every day of you can. Begin to give your body what it needs - a consistent rhythm. Sleep is the bedrock that your health is built upon.

Why in the world are doctors allowed to treat patients without sleeping for 24 hours? It should be illegal. It’s time for this to stop for the sake of the doctors but even more so for the patients.

I think that once we begin to realize that the only thing to fear is fear itself, fear suddenly becomes very difficult for me to believe that the truth is the fact that the people who never go outside are very compelling and they have an opportunity for the late reply but not every bodybuilder prisoner eats ramen or something like that.

This so confusing i mean I'm old enough to sort understand this but to a young person on one side they hear you don't have to work so hard then you have Elon Musk for example say work as hard as you can so which is it? As far as I know most Americans are workaholics funny enough you see it now more in women. Is it because now they are taking the jobs men would do work basically to the grave? Make up your mind people
