Good doing Chris! I enjoy watching your builds. Ive started my first acoustic steel string. Im taking a lot of pics. Maybe soon Ill start video recording and share with the youtube guitar building community.

That would be really cool if you have time to do it! Good luck and thanks for the comment!

Chris, you could try a toothed blade for that jack plane you’ve got to thin down the back. It removes wood faster than a scraper and it won’t tear out because of the teeth. You finish up with a scraper to remove tooth marks, which should go quicker than scraping from scratch!

Thanks for the advice Chris! I didn’t think about a toothed blade. I’ve never used one so it didn’t cross my mind. I did try using a hand plane, but it only tore it out no matter how light of a pass or which direction I worked from. Thanks for watching!

Love that back. The figure looks great. Like your choice on tops. It's your guitar and your decision. I'll look to see that other top on a later guitar. Oh and it was the 80's I worked there.

Thanks Ed! Glad you stopped by. Thanks again for the top set and thanks for watching!

Awesome tenacity on that end wedge Chris! I like that Acacia wood a lot better also. I have taken my back and sides to a local cabinet shop before- they will thickness them to where you want them for a reasonable cost and they usually have a lot better sander than we can afford! 😀 But it looks like you may have convinced the love of your life that you really, REALLY need one! Gotta do a special episode on that tool!

Thanks so much Lou! I did what I felt I had to do and my wife supported the decision, haha. Thanks for watching!

@@CMRWoodworks so which one did you get? The Supermax 1938 or the Jet 1836? Or maybe their little brothers? 😎👌 I’m Envious brother, I got my bride convinced, I just need to get the funds together…. 👍

Love my supermax 25 closed end. Coupled with a baileigh DC-1450, is sweet. Makes childs play out of any thickness sanding.

Very nice Chris, I love that wood your using for the back it’s going to look nice, I bought a drum sander last year a 1632 it’s Very nice to have just a heads up if you do buy one when you go to use it just take VERY VERY shallow passes & use 100 grit belts for your initial cleanup you will find that you have to send your stock through a few times at the same setting to get an even sand. Good luck Brother. Oh yea & Do not attempt to use a drum sander without dust collection system👍👍🇺🇸🎸🎹👨🏻🦯👨🏻🦯

Thanks for the advice man. All I have is a shop vac, so I hope that is enough until I can get a proper dust collection system. I need more power in my shop too so it’s gonna require an electrician 🤑
@scaira602 жыл бұрын
@@CMRWoodworks Chris a shopvac will not cut it it might help a bit but I found if you do not get enough dust extraction the dust builds up on the wood & with the very thin stock we sand for a guitar it matters. Don’t rush just take your time look at different options & buy what you can afford I bought the Preformax 1632 it’s a nice machine, But I made a huge mistake on my dust collector, I rushed didn’t pay attention & the unit I bought is to tall for my basement ceiling height by 6” So Iam trying to sell it locally so I can purchase a smaller unit. Good luck brother.👍👍🙏🇺🇸👨🏻🦯👨🏻🦯

Can someone please tell me how to get the wax off my rosewood back and sides I just got these sets today I have never seen this before thanks Michael
@CMRWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
Is it wax on the end grain? Mine came with wax covering the end grain just to reduce moisture issues. You don’t have to do anything special. It’ll come just off as you work with the wood. It doesn’t do anything bad to your tools.

Nice recovery! I actually like the second end cap better. You might remember that I screwed up my first end cap only for a much dumber reason. 🙄

You know, sitting here, I’m not entirely sure what direction mine is facing, front or back. Guess I better check 😅

i was a piece of glass as a scraper
@SkyscraperGuitars2 жыл бұрын
How are you sharpening that scraper? I got ahold of a burnisher once that hasn't hard enough to turn a good burr. It had me turning circles thinking I didn't know how to sharpen an edge.
@CMRWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
I‘m using the same method I have used based on what I learned watching several KZbin videos and also Robbie O‘Brien‘s mini lesson in his guitar building course. I‘m using the same Lie Nielsen scrapers and burnisher that I‘ve always had. I‘m at a loss as to why I can‘t seem to get it right. It‘s very frustrating! But, I may have made a purchase this morning that should make life easier 😁

@@CMRWoodworks I use the veritas do-dad for sharpening and burnishing most of the time now... Super fast and pretty much fool proof. If I have a new scraper I put it on the stones and go old school on the first round... Then I use the veritas tool until it gets gnarly. I'm sure you'll get it sorted.
