Quirk singularity as a concept helps the world feel so much more authentic and fleshed out. I mean Shoto's entire character is basically driven by the concept. Of course stronger quirks would be born as time goes on and quirks combine, but thinking of the concept and introducing it to the story to make it plot-relevant is a thing Horikoshi managed to do great.

In so many shows (anime or non-anime) there are a lot of times where I feel like an abusive character got off a little bit scott-free without really earning their redemption. I'm glad to admit that Horikoshi did an outstanding job with Endeavor. It takes a lot of time, every perspective is taken into account and even after he becomes semi-likable, we are still confronted with some of his awful actions from the past. Definitely some of the best writing in this show.

@@natsuotodoroki this is a mistake the fandom has, Endeavor's arc is not redemption, it's atonement, and both are vastly different (this also goes to OP). I absolutely love this mini-arc. It's fun and have so much soul, and characters aspect are great. It feels so refreshing and unique to see use of powers to create a whole amusement park in a stadium and not just use for a fighting sake. And what makes it more deep is to have Endeavor to watch this exact training and see how Shoto use his fire to create and warm up, not to destroy and that's something HE can do to find his path to become a number 1. I love action in My Hero, but things like this make a perfect balance between fights and everything else for me. I would say MHA is a very characters driven story, and that's something I really love to see in anime. And for interesting facts: if you ever paid attention to the pictures in the ending to this arc, you should know that's the picture of little Shoto with his parents in some kind of kindergarten ceremony is actually a manga panel that goes as a cover to one of the chapters (chapter 166) this anime episode adapts. I think it was kind of inspiration to the anime team to make ending showing a childhood photos of heroes and other characters. Also, name of the school those kids go, Masegaki, is a wordplay with a something like 'little snot'. Someone was very original naming the school 😂

Talking about people with restrictions on how they are allowed to use their quirk Yaoyorozu is probably the best example. Her quirk can make ANYTHING, but a lot of things would have pretty disastrous consequences if she made them, so she isn't supposed to make whole categories of things. Making gold or other precious materials would risk upending the world economy, but she's rich already, so she isn't even tempted. The other major category she isn't allowed to mess with is drugs. Just too dangerous and too much risk for abuse. Even a slight impurity and people could end up dead. Not to mention the potential for overdoses if she isn't INCREDIBLY careful.

Provisional License Flunkies vs children commence. Well last time Bakugo asked and asked and asked for a fight, and now we have 15+ kids just deciding yes we will fight…after lecturing that violence is all people like Bakugo can resort to. All with the stakes of completely ruining their self esteem with a mistake. What could go wrong? Just a bunch of random quirks that can scuff their clothes (tough clothes built for heavy combat in THIS world keep in mind) then…tongue tank. Ok! Change of plans. Don’t ruin their self esteem…and don’t let them do full on terrorism. These kids can commit terrorism with no proper behavioral discipline. Yup. That’s a pretty good reminder when you WANT superpowers in reality, you get THAT reminder what could spiral out of control just for being untrained. Quirk Singularity Doomsday rears its head at last. We’ve just accepted the rules of this world is we got superpowers, had kids and morphed the superpowers, and continued the cycle. Simple enough. But if you’re paying attention, MAN is that unstable. And it would NOT take long for quirk generations to spiral out of control. We’ve seen in the form of the UA kids. Not in the forms of their quirks, but their recoils. They’ve been mitigating the damage their own quirks do to their body. And as we’ve heard, quirks are unique muscles and genes for anyone with quirks. So take Iida using recipro. He flexed his leg then kicks, but then proceeds to be immobile for lengthy periods. News flash that’s probably not healthy for the body at all much less learn how to press it harder. And also bodes poorly for Deku who flexes his SKIN off. Inasa is in crisis over not being able to be friends training or no, Todoroki gets hit and…Camie just HORRIFIES this poor girl. That one brunette with a ponytail is NOT having a good day. Setting aside that Camie is STILL working around in her head how she can go out with Todoroki, (her quirk unrestrained is PROHIBITED?!) it DOES lead to the single most shocking thing in this season. We have found a completely unguarded smile and LAUGH from BAKUGO. Camie that is a FEAT. That’s the 1st one ungraded scene since he was LITERALLY a kid their age and even THEN he was posturing. I…am in utter shock she pulls that off. And the little politician finally speaks on how everyone is getting worn down in the world. Heroes can’t replace All-Might. The teacher can’t keep up with the kids, (and is still in the bottle because of that) and just a genuine failure of adults around them. Therefore HE never gets in true trouble so he must be flawless. But BAKUGO of all people gives him a talking to about not always looking down on others. (Deku says hi from the crater you stuffed him in when you told him he was bad at using OFA, Bakugo. Ya butthead) But Bakugo IS learning this lesson with other people he didn’t spend a decade making a living hell for. And showing the kids NON chaotic ways for their quirks to be used and combined and shown possibility lets them see that there IS respect to be found in these hero students. (The aurora clouded ice slide with fire rings and tornado elevator is AMAZINGLY creative. Way to make a slide that’ll basically only ever appear in cartoons and follows everyone’s quirk rules with no issues.) And therefore there’s a road for the teacher to get them to work together and not cause pure agony. (Still keep a close eye on tongue tank. Again. Genuine terrorism problem.) The kids give back Bakugo’s gauntlets, Camie won over the girls in the class, and Inasa and Todoroki helped explain themselves for the teacher while also trying to keep her from beating herself up more. That’s a heck of a mellow out from these kids. You get Gang Orca props for that. Inasa and Todoroki are officially patched up, and Camie gives Bakugo Bakugo treatment. Bakugo has no counter. (These two are genuinely cute. And I would NEVER say that about Bakugo with ANYONE but she sold me on being the EXCLUSIVE person in the show to get Bakugo to genuinely laugh.) And we’re not done with Shiketsu as they put together more collaboration between the schools so circumstances like Camie’s can’t repeat. So now we got Ketsubutsu Academy AND Shiketsu waiting for more interactions. HUGE Endeavor moment. He tries to give support and Todoroki just doesn’t even want it. So Endeavor just throws everything to this wonderful line. He’s proud of Shoto. And wants to be someone that Shoto can be proud of too. Acknowledging Shoto isn’t…and acknowledging Shoto only calls him father with no foundation to the relationship at all. The fact ENDEAVOR sees that is crazy. Endeavor isn’t above his problems at the top, but All-Might has inspired hope he CAN. And he extends a hope to fix what’s broken. And Inasa wastes no time saying that’s a hope he can get behind. I think Inasa sees how messed up the Todoroki’s are and now sees what these two were looking at with hatred that he couldn’t see before. And he punched himself in the face once he realized that the problems these two had caused him were one of many self inflicted. And this is what he can muster to apologize to Endeavor. (He’s still a jerk, just more unintentional to Inasa.) There’s the funeral for Sir Nighteye. Fat Gum ate an INSANE amount to already be BACK to fat form in what, a WEEK tops? And the work studies are on hold with the offer still standing for everyone to return one day including Mirio. Except Deku apparently. Ouch. Another ego blow. They literally show the work studies heroes talking to everyone BUT Deku. What the heck people?! How did he just WALK away from the infinite 100% battle and NOT gain a modicum of an interaction?! Well at least Uraraka is still always cheering for him. And Iida is always there for him to. And…Aoyama is hand feeding him fine cheese. Does he eat in the cafeteria? Don’t be ridiculous he’s drinking wine. Let’s look up the drinking age in Japan, and it’s 20. Aoyama is 16. My guy you got guts to break the DRINKING laws right in front of IIDA. And now he’s STALKING on Deku. Says “He knows” watches him sleep for a solid 30 seconds, (that’s 30 seconds too many if you’re not at a party keeping tabs on the wasted or emotionally exhausted.) and is just…freaky. Mineta and Kaminari cope with the rejection of team “Rainy Day” by playing chopsticks. (Been a LONG time since I played that.) Well at least it’s nice to see Kaminari get some Mineta disregarding for once. Kirishima and Bakugo train together so Kirishima can stand up to Rappa in ultimate move training. Just make sure Bakugo doesn’t do AP shot on him. That MIGHT be disastrous. And Bakugo even asks for an update on OFA progress. Deku says not really AFTER CONTROLLING OVER DOUBLE the power he did before AND forcing a full energy power up. (8% to 20% is MASSIVE) My guy the gap between you and Bakugo is LARGE for now. But Bakugo doesn’t say let’s train together, not keep working, but no you won’t beat me with that. Sighhhh. Still can’t have a real positive moment can he? Aoyama and Deku are friends now as he tries to relate over their unstable foreign quirks their bodies can’t handle. Like Deku he’s getting better. Learning how to write with his quirk and frying through a LOT of rock. It’s such a surprise and I just don’t understand this part of the story. It’s cute and fun, but there HAS to be a better way to handle this. What a weird but touching episode. Next time, the new full arc begins.

I remember being absolutely furious back when that Endeavor scene first dropped in the manga. After seeing how horribly he'd treated Shoto, I couldn't imagine how they could pull off this kind of growth for him, and I was worried it was going to be shallow. But Horikoshi created a masterpiece out of him. It's mind-blowing to think just how masterfully Horikoshi can handle nuanced character arcs like this. It's one of the things that impresses me most about this show.

Currently it has five seasons and there will be a sixth. It's a very interesting and complex story that can also be kinda funny at times. Characters are written AMAZINGLY, out of all the stories I've ever been obsessed with this definitely takes the cake for amazing character and story writing. The fandom is very passionate and I think you might be interested in reacting to it!

@AZDfox9 ай бұрын
She may not have done anything. But on paper, her Quirk can completely ruin lives if it's abused
@FireFog449 ай бұрын
I think it's just identity theft quirks are especially frowned upon. Abusing your quirk is already illegal, but abusing a quirk that lets you push the blame onto others while you get away Scott free are quirks that the government would be especially wary of, illusion, shapeshifting, and mind control quirks being the big examples.
@haku81359 ай бұрын
I don't think she necessarily had to DO anything. Illusions are inherently fucking broken and scary, just like mind control. I think as soon as they found out what she could do, they just got together, and then went to her and went "Right so here's the ground rules, do NOT break them." She doesn't really seem like the type to get into major mischief. More like a go with the flow kinda girl.
@HaydrogenBomb9 ай бұрын
@AZDfox That's the case with a LOT of powers in this universe, and this is the only time prohibition has been brought up in a Quirk-explanation, so I'm wondering why that is.
@AZDfox9 ай бұрын
@@HaydrogenBomb probably because most either physically affects you, or requires some sort of trigger. Shinso's mind control requires you to answer him, Toga's transformation requires her to drink your blood, etc. But her's can completely ruin someone's life socially, and there's no countermeasure. She has what could be an incredibly devastating ability in the wrong hands. Imagine if a villain used it to ruin a politician's career, or to break up a marriage. It has incredible social power and no limitation or drawback
@arelydelaluz84879 ай бұрын
The Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory is talked about. Quirks get more powerful and complex by the generation. At one point they'll be too powerful that people will die because biologically their bodies couldn't evolve fast enough. You see how Eri couldn't control it and it is really powerful if not controlled. Similarly, Deku's quirk had gone through 8 different people, the quirk continued to grow as it was passes, so each user has a different level of strength. Overhaul wanted to get rid of quirks, and even though he did it for the yakuza to restore its power, he may have been on something calling quirks a disease. It kinds hurts the cold shoulder Shoto gave Endeavor, but he did it to himself. He hurt his family and it's not easy for them to just take his chance. If Endeavor wasn't who he was or we didn't know their history, how Shoto talked to him would've came off so disrespectful. There's a joke that came in an OVA in which Deku say how you can tell he's the youngest. The Aoyama thing will make sense later.

This isn't a redemption arc for Endeavor, it's about atonement, and that's what makes it different and an example of incredible writing.
@BeyondTrash-xe1vs7 ай бұрын
Agreed, redemption is a more selfish concept. It's about being recognized for your betterment. Atonement is more selfless as it's about repaying the harm done, and amending a brighter future. It's not about judgement or being forgiven. It's about righting wrongs to make tomorrow happier than today.
@cjd28897 ай бұрын
@@BeyondTrash-xe1vs Exactly, he doesn't seek forgiveness because that puts the burden on the people he's hurt to let go of the pain he's caused when they may never be ready to. Instead, he seeks to do what's right, even if it comes at a steep personal cost (like never seeing his family again). For the first time he's putting their health and happiness ahead of his wants, needs, and ambitions.
