Militant Gardening. Also I'm mostly fine with a lot of the factions from Endless Space 1 getting sidelined in 2 because it gives room for new and interesting factions to emerge. The Endless series is kinda defined by it's unique and very flavorful factions and the universe is so big that it would feel stagnant quickly if the same ones kept returning. I don't see it as the Endless Space 1 factions being sidelined but as giving someone else the stage and the same will happen in the next game. Amplitude is an incredibly creative studio in that way and you can see how perhaps the Unfallen are a different take on a similar idea. I'm glad that the Sowers and others like them got to be in the spotlight in 1 and I look forward to what we'll see in the future.

I miss the Sheredyn. To be fair, they could acceptably have been a minor faction even in ES1, but I just loved their ship design.

Possibly my favorite ES1 faction, if not the Harmony then definitely the Sowers. My current ES2 Craver game has the Sowers assimilated and pretty much perma-boosted, which is leading into population management and approval levels that I've never experienced before. Trying to get Sowers on each of my systems while also attacking fleets over an enemy home system is a different type of stress! I also had no idea they were responsible for the near destruction of the Kapaku, and man I just love how interconnected these games can be with details like that.

I once started a Craven campaign on Serious dificulty, in an Ovoid galaxy, on the maximum size and density in Endless Space 2. The whole campaign was a gamble, I thought that if I find Sowers, then it is a sucess, if I do not, then my output wil fall to a third of what it was or it could have been and I will lose. To my luck, a planet with sowers was really close to my starting position. When I saw it, I set my highest priority to be geting the Sowers, even higher than getting the Trading Bureau Center. I must say that I set the minor civilization number to many and their dificulty, to high. That campaign was also the one I get the achievement for getting the most or getting a certain number of minor civilizations. After securing the Sowers, I started a major colonization campaign, fulfilling the Sowers calling and boosting their populace as if there was no tomorrow. No pun intended, my allies were the Riftborn. The Craven campaign seemed for me the most time consuming. Wasn't the most dificult, that would be the Hissho, where I almost lost utterly (-there I was literarely saved by my Ai ally - he secured another alliance with another Ai which carried me), yet it was very finnicky, because every system must be carefully managed in order to conserve the output. At some point, let' s say I was in the top 2, yet sacrifices had to be made. So I sent my cravers main populace on suicide trips in order to make room for or to further increase the Sower populace. The other Ai saw it, that I had fallen to about the 4 th place, and started behaving as such. Nevertheless, although my overall performance was reduced by about 30%, a long time race could still be run, the alternative being to only mentain that 30% and lose 60%. Thanks to the sacrifice, my power was conserved enough to win, which I eventually did. i am glad the Sowers are still an individual race. I consider the Horatio to be the strongest race (- with this one I won my first and only Endless dificulty campaign with only domination victory allowed), and when I split the Sower genes, I can finally clean up after the Cravers. I saw the Ameboa was included with a generic group race. To that group, the Ameboa, the Sower and the android assasin heroes belong to as a group. As for the Automatons, i do not know of.

Finding out that you've uploaded a new video is like finding a star system with multiple hot planets as a Riftborn player! Personally I like to think that the Sowers were created by the Rebootists faction of the Virtual Endless, and later down the line they would have been ordered to terraform new planets.

the first endless space had way more soul. es2 is in many ways technically improved, but i look back far more fondly on my playtime with es1

I’ve always assumed ‘Rosetta Q’ from Dungeon was a Sower; even though I think nothing ever states it. I think it’s just that their designs are similar.

7:50 Well, those planets are actually lived in by the local animal life as well as space civilizations that happen colonize them; it's not like the sowers' taks is futile, even if they are not working for the Endless anymore.

Wait, that begs a minor question I’m sure has been answered elsewhere. How did the Kapaku get to auriga? In the game it seems like the concrete or virtual endless placed them there, but assuming the sowers got to their world aeons after the death of the endless. Who was it then?

I'd imagine that there are numerous Sower factions out there, so it could be a separate unit of Sowers that were dropped on the Kapaku homeworld. But you are right, it does strike as a little bit of a paradox!

@@DeadSun okay so i did a quick read of the wiki. their lore says the concrete endless brought them to Auriga, but the sowers didnt finish Tor until after the end of the Dust Wars. Unless Tor was the Kapaku homeworld, which we know isnt, its really opened the question hasnt it
