Endurance vs Light vs Aero - Which Road Bike should you choose?

When it comes to road cycling, choosing the right bike can make a big difference in your performance and overall experience. While there are many different types of road bikes available, three of the most common are endurance road bikes, lightweight road bikes, and aero road bikes. Each type of bike is designed with a specific purpose in mind, and understanding the differences between them can help you make an informed decision when choosing your next bike.

Excellent video and great at explaining the differences. I currently have 3 road bikes and each one has a purpose. 1 of each Aero, Lightweight and Endurance. But I'm a bike snob and only one bike is needed in reality. My lightweight/Aero bike is 6.76kg with pedals and cages and it's disc brakes. Weight is a bit overrated unless the climbs are 7% or steeper for 6km or more. I find your position on the bike is most important and if you ride alone or are a breakaway specialist then those marginal aero gains matter most.

i kinda cycle for leisure to nice places. They're long rides but sometimes just nearby. sometimes, i ride slow sometimes, especially on a straight road i like to shoot fast ..then go slow again. I decided to recently get an aero carbon bike and am loving it. Even though, i have a slip disc and 2 bad knees. lol

It’s great that we have the comparison, but what I want to know, and I cannot find it anywhere is a riding trial test between the three different types of bikes, which one is faster on a hill climb and the flats. All we get is tunnel testing. I would like to see two different riders minimum on all three bikes, doing hill, climbing and flats and let’s see which one has the best time and does it really make a difference.

when I lived tin Switzerland I had a great set of Royal climbing wheels.. Super low profile, light and a bit springy which help when you were on crazy steep climbs you could "bounce" the bike f foraged. Plus if you had deep dish wheels they were dangerous going downhill at fast speeds, they almost become sails and will push you off the road.

Awesome vid! I’m super into bike geometry details and you nailed all the important details. Since I ride vintage steel bikes only, it’s the same issue with bikes I’ve found. They can be the same size, but the geometry makes them all ride different. But for people shopping for a first or second bike, it is definitely best to buy new and get a bike fit!

Hi alex. Great video as always. I recently went to Canyon website and plug my height and inseam to check proper bike size. I was surprised to see that Canyon recomended a XS for me. I am 5' 9'' and have always ride Mediums bikes. Has this happened to you or someone you know trying to buy Canyon? what size is that one behind you? Thanks in advance.

Hi! There is definitely something wrong. If you are 5’9” it’s most likely a medium. I’m 5’7” and ride a small, although a medium would work too, but I prefer smaller bikes.

Yes, a lot of bikes today are all rounders. Comfortable, pretty light and fast
