I am a Czech and I clearly remember meeting first black person in my life. I was 8, so it was 2009. In 2009 it took me 8 years of my life to see a black person, and I was probably incredibly lucky. There are more dark skin tones around nowadays, for sure, but it is still something exotic. Therefore meeting a black person in medieval Bohemia would be incredibly lucky. I am sure there was an occasional merchant or scholar with dark skin in Prague, but understanding medieval social structure, those people were confined to an inn and marketplace/university/court so an average peasant would never seen as much as Italian their whole lives.

St. Maurice was born in Thebes and very likely was brown and not Sub-Saharan black, but because of political reasons he was depicted as a black man in central European art since the 13th century. Emperor Frederick II wanted to convince people that Africa was once Christian and this "black Saint" was the evidence of that, so they blackwashed him. And now woke activists use his medieval depictions in German and Bohemian lands as the evidence that black people were common there.

Recently I was attacked for daring to question a scientific paper written by Japanese scientist for stating DNA test were used in a battlefield to prove that women fought in 1500s. After reading the abstract I foundout that the research happened in 1989 and no DNA was used obsiously. I am an athropologist, which I crearly stated on my statment but I was still attacked. There was defenately no bias there.

The thing is that it's not like any other game. It's impossible to fight and win against a high level enemy at the start. It doesn't matter how good you are at gaming. The character is just too weak, slow and unskilled. Every fight makes his stats increase. That's why it's preferable to spend some time in the "dojo" at the start. It's a unique style and really fun.

Hate the idea that if an African country had anything to do with a European power (in ancient times), this means Sub-Saharan black people were living in those countries. Yes, the ultra wealthy countries would hire African mercenaries way back when, but it was HIGHLY rare when those mercenary companies were allowed to settle in their lands. This was almost never a good idea, since blood thirsty mercenaries would usually rampage to get what they wanted. People didn't migrate like they do today, and mass immigration usually always ended with intense bloodshed - there wasn't a surplus of anything like there is today, so people had to protect their own stuff. Cultures were homogeneous only within themselves, including African countries. I hate how people depict ancient Europe as if it's modern day L.A. Keep history what it was - this way people can learn the DANGERS of isolationism/tribalism. People severely distrusted others, and skin color has always been a means to 'other' someone else. Don't change history into something it never was. History should never be sanitized for weak people who can't handle it.

And let's not forget the fact that slavery was still around in the form of indented servants and actual slaves. If africans were in Europe to be considered, it would most likely be from those who have fallen into slavery to those crusaders that have returned home or are close to the sea as traders. They wouldn't have travelled for months or years (remember, no cars, only horses or foot travel back then) to get to Bohemia and central europe and beyond.

Point of fact there is enough world history that one could take the formula of making historical games like KCD 1or2 pretty much anywhere in the old world. All it would take is a compelling story and some historical accuracy and BAM you have another hit and success for a developer wiling to take the formula and expand it upon various locations. From the Americas to Asia, Africa and in to Europe covering hundreds of years of world history. AC tried very hard and to a degree with some success did do this to a point, GOW did it, but the problem they had was trying to blend each mythology into a central story. I would make each one a stand alone title with nothing connecting them and as historically accurate with the sets and other aesthetics and language as possible, one time period I would very much like to see in a game is ancient Mesopotamia.

I went through a phase during high school of being interested in Japanese culture, so much so that one of my best Christmas gifts was my dad gifting me a book on Japanese history and culture. AC Shadows ruined that but I just started watching the Shogun show on Hulu so I suppose there is that.

It has inspired various artistic works from literature to games and is virtually limitless in its potential to inspire future games books and films/TV shows. The legends mythology and cultures, their similarities and differences making each very unique in and of themselves. I agree that Japan like a few other cultural histories is very interesting, I would like to see a broader range of it. Specifically a game where the player acts as one of the many legendary Samurai at various times throughout its history. Or reenacting various mythological tales as to offer a great historical yet immersive experience. Sort of like a GOW type game but in Japanese culture and across its history. There is evidence that Samurai where known to have traveled to distant lands and interacted with those cultuers, to me this would be an incredible expansion and opportunity to show how rich the Japanese culture and history is. I mentioned Mesopotamia as it is very unique and has a very interesting historical perspective and significance. One that made many advancements that benefited all those cultures and their histories that came after it. And it would be a fresh perspective one that to my knowledge has not yet been explored in a gaming medium. For like the Japanese and other historical cultures existed far outside of its own traditional settings. I think games made with this in mind and developed by a team with the ability to bring it to life would be an amazing and very profitable addition to the RPG genres.

Daniel Vávra made the right choice by clowning on Veilguard. He's appealing to gamers who are tired of DEI and of seeing good franchises and studios get ruined by ideology. Under normal circumstances, a director disparaging a peer would be seen as unprofessional -and I'm sure the professional victims/activists will claim just that- but these aren't normal circumstances. The rot in the industry is well apparent, and AAA might be ready for a crash. So Vávra is reading the room and letting gamers know that there's a different choice, which people can judge on its own merits. That's the only way to get through this. Sargon of Akkad was right back in March. Gamers aren't really meant to be activists, and they don't have some master plan to eject woke from the industry. Gamers have one job -to have fun playing games- but sometimes they need to rise up and protect the industry, discuss the situation, and vote with their wallets. I hope other creators follow Vávra's lead and are uncompromising and honest in offering an authentic product.

This is so frustrating. I've always voted left (I'm European), but DEI and gender politics have made me politically homeless. I do not want a black Robin Hood or an Asian Cleopatra, just like I do not want a white Shaka Zulu or trans Saladin. Reality is important. Disney appropriated OUR folk and fairytales. Most known fairytales are from Germany, Denmark etc. All white culture. Black people were in Africa, Asian people were in Asia. I am NOT right wing thinking that, it's absurd. I love African folktales and stories, just don't insert things that aren't true. I'll hold onto Kingdom Come in the hope that my culture will hold on and keep afloat in this erasure of reality that is going on. As a woman I want women to be beautiful and men to be buff, goodlooking and heroic. Same reason why actors and actresses in movies are pretty. I didn't feel Kingdom Come was treating women badly. Teresa was strong and didn't take shit. She wasn't a simp, but a woman living in those days. Again, realism. I would have hated KDC if the hero would have been a woman since that would have been unrealistic. In fantasy that would have been different, but then it would be a choice (think Dragon Age Inquisition). Anyway, hope all will support KDC2. I for one will be buying the gold edition. Let's go!

Warhorse is a studio that deserves our time, attention and money. Not only do they not trash gamers, but they actually listen to and respect their consumers which players. Warhorse and Larian are developers that know how to do things the right way. I don’t preorder games, but you better believe I’m preordering KCD 2. Screw BioWare, screw Bethesda, screw obsidian, and screw games “journalists (aka activists). We truly don’t need any of them.

The DEI argument really is "there may have been a black person in Bohemia, so they should represent modern American population statistics." funny how these journalists never understand that history is never politicly correct or diverse, as diverse populations are a thing of relatively recent history. i mean if we go back to the 14'the hundreds. you can be sure as the sky is blue, that there were peasants that basicly only knew the local area or never really left their village for many reasons. Plus historicly accurate games like kingdom come deliverance is just a love letter to history, and just how it all worked, as even their language use is what is fitting to the time period, since we do have scripts from the period in history.

I've spent ~900 hours on their first game, did 3 full playthroughs, it's a unique masterpiece and basically an absolute must play if you're into immersive RPGs, definitely buying this day1, maybe even preordering it even though I never preorder games but since they're one of last bastions of good normal games I'm very tempted to do it just to express my support.

I was going to start this comment by saying “as a black man…” but then I remembered that it doesn’t matter. Anyway, people should celebrate their heritage, regardless of who they are. Find the bits you like and love it to death, for that is where you came from. There’s nothing wrong with historical depictions of a part of Europe. If there were no Moors, there were no Moors. Get over it and enjoy the good game. I was originally not going to buy it because I don’t care for first person games, but now I think I will just to support a developer and studio that doesn’t bend the knee to the woke agenda. Just do what you like and make a good product. And hell, even if you want to make a game that has woke elements in it, at least make it a good game like Baldur’s Gate 3. What these other games lack is a good, authentic experience. Instead they just want to push the message down your throat

Having people of color in the game about medieval Bohemia would be absurd. Hell, I'm Czech living in a fairly big city, a regional center, and I've seen the first black man only when I was 15 years old. In the 21st century, no less. That being said, this was never a big affair here in Czechia. Warhorse knew that people who complain about it wouldn't buy the game anyway.

I build for a small, text based fantasy online mmorpg called Erion. In the missions I've made, villains have gone from a mad dwarf cult; with both male and female members, trying to resurrect an ancient dwarf war hero, to a dark skinned evil human enchantress in a twisted retelling of beauty and the beast, to a male elf necromancer trying to use a human girl's terror to break an ancient curse, and a kitsune sorcerer serving an undead kyuubi warlord! Last two missions I wrote, the villains were a very nasty; possibly bisexual, blonde slave owning gem merchant, and a very scuzzy, and very male, outlaw chief! The point is making the villains interesting characters, whom the player wants to defeat, not because they're a certain demographic of people, but because they're bloody evil and up to no good!

Unfortunately for that to happen, we need to pull a page from the lefts playbook and make games with themes and political statements we do agree with. Corporate suits are pragmatic if nothing, and blatant thieves as well. So if KCD2 becomes a major hit, we can hope for similar games with similar messages we agree with and less of what we don’t.
