@@divinitygaming8673 yeah it does go over the top, though I was actually surprised that those haven't explored some of those ideas good enough, like the Unseen the wraith-world, one can imagine that there could have been lesser wraiths as enemies only visible in that realm, (kind of like Soul Reaver had spectral only enemies and material world enemies) or the things from book like Silent Watchers, the Morgul-knife...the Monolith games go the route of the flashy over the top stuff instead of exploring the Tolkien lore. And the story is downright amateurishly bad, obviously then there are huge lore breakings and alterations that make little sense. Tolkien world deserves a proper game with well written story.

As for first game on such scale it's ok but nothing amazing. Hogwarts and the village feel alive because there are a lot of scripted events you can see. Once you leave those places it's humans, spiders or wolves. There is nothing fun to find outside. Finding new gear is boring. Crafting for some reason was turned into mobile type thing. Wait X amount of time to do or get something. Etc etc. Looking at this game objectively on one side people exaggerate how bad it is and on another side people exaggerate how amazing it is. The game clearly has a lot of forced diversity that was put to make the mob happy but they never will be.

@Grimoire Weiss I loved both Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. But I would love to explore more of middle earth and not just Mordor. Imagine a fully detailed Minas tirith the way they detailed hogwarts. With all sorts of easter eggs and discoverable spots. Or Lothlorian, Rivendell, Helms Deep, etc. Shadow of war scratched that urge a bit, but left more to be desired.

When I’m in the castle, I find myself not fast traveling and sometimes literally walking to my destinations. The amount of detail is immense, sometimes breathtaking. I feel like a kid, all giddy every time I boot the game up, and spending too long playing it. What a wonderful experience it is.

One mundane detail I'm impressed that the devs did was the amount of moving paintings inside hogwarts, considering how many moving paintings there are. On the gameplay side, the duel challenges/ bestiary gives the 'learning' side and rock-paper-scissors combat nice nuance, especially when playing hard mode (which I wished there was a harder than hard mode). Now I want to finish my Slytherin run to a less offensive-magic centric wizard, using potions, plants and specific enemy combat interactions (like 'parrying' the dunbogs by using levioso before they flick their tongue, or flipping them after their unblockable, or using descendo on spiders to bury them)

Well said and it's how 99% of people would feel if you explained to them what is happening. This scenario is like a reveal spell being cast on the mainstream but also independent journalist world to show that they care more about their own personal politics and beliefs than they do about their craft and the audience that follows them. Dude I was genuinely shocked at how dark the story gets from the get-go, that carriage scene had me like “WOAH”. The story actually has me hooked in it. Yeah the writing could be a little better just with use of the words “ancient magic” being tossed around more than Dumbledore’s child army accusations. But still, this shit right here boys and girls, fucking cream of the crop. Also, I just love seeing the little evil goblins fight with magic, its intimidating and hilarious to me. Good on Avalanche for this man, some real talent there.

The thing i love the most and i think is the real superstar of the game is the castle. I'm in awe of the sheer size of the place, the intricacy of the level design and the mind boggling amount of details and life poured in its hallways thank to the students, the ghosts, the paintings, the armors and even the furnitures.The environment is truly MAGICAL. There are only 2 things that bother me a bit: the broomstick controls are a little weird (with up/down on the R stick and left/right on the L stick), and the fact that you can't move when casting Revelio (a bit annoying when you are exploring an area). But really: Hogwarts Legacy is such a wonderful game.

I've got a lot of mixed feelings on the controversy behind it. I won't be getting the game, but that's also because I don't have the money LOL. And will not be having the money to spend on both a new console and the game itself any time soon. PS5 and the games attached to it are currently beyond my reach because of what I actually need to pay for and what I currently spend on other things. I can say, as someone who followed the movies since I was 11 and read all the books in my 4 years of high school, this will probably end up being one of my if not my favorite game of the year. I'm only 5 hours in, but so far, I'm just loving how much detail they've put into Hogwarts, and the characters I've met have also been fun. The classes aren't just there to be tutorials, but actually feel like classes you would take while attending. I've probably spent most of my time just running around, finding secrets, and looking for little easter eggs. It's just been so much fun to play through. I will say, the only iffy part to me is the little mini game you have to go through to learn new spells. It's not really difficult but having to aim with a control stick can be a big weird. Other than that, though, the game has ticked all my boxes so far. Oh, and props to it for actually having an interesting start. I half expected us to start to Platform 9 3/4 and just ride the train to Hogwarts, but it doesn't go that way at all and actually pulled me into the story.

I LOVE the quirky details they threw in. The gargoyles badmouthing students. The two ghost knights sparring. The bickering ghost couple. The humming suit of armor being elbowed by his friend to shut up. The nod to the Chamber of Secrets in the girls' bathroom. The list goes on. Granted, the gender-neutral pronoun (even as I've selected "witch"), token lesbian and trans NPC, and the overtly diverse cast are slightly irksome and destroyed immersion somewhat (as they aren't realistic for the time and setting), the game's tone is a bit too dark for my taste and I enjoyed the old PC games more, with its Bertie Botts currency, cutesy enemies (I love the bejeweled crab!) and dreamlike spell practice stages (Lapifors in PoA is just mwah!)...but even as I tremble facing up against poachers, mongrels and spiders, I still enjoyed the game into the wee hours of the night and I'm in awe of the painstaking care put into every blade of grass and block of stone. Just miraculous.

The only other Harry Potter game I've played is Philosopher's Stone on PS1 so I can only compare it to that lol. Those two suits of armour you see bickering, you should keep visiting them. Looking at the attention to detail and world building in this game, I would be in heaven if this studio acquired the Assassins Creed IP, as long as the devs have the drive to return the series to its true roots - which would mean a full blown reboot. The series has been decaying ever since the Desmond Miles arc ended and after Black Flag.

When it comes to open-world games I always say bigger is not better. . The success and failure of any world size of any open-world game depends on its ability to keep you engaged. For me, Hogwarts Legacy manages to succeed as I want to explore and complete all the side activities, get all the collectibles, and 100% of the game, which is rare for me to do.

What I want from a sequel or dlc is more in depth rpg elements. I want stuff like KOTOR or Mass Effect where you can choose a companion to bring with you on some adventurers, it would be awesome to see how sebastian and natty or ominus and poppy interact on some of our adventures.

Loving the game so far. I was not expecting to enjoy it as much as I have. But a part of me wishes I had owned a ps5 and played it on there cos I hear the game plays smooth as butter on console but I cannot say the same for PC. It has been an utter stutter and fps drops fest ( my specs exceed that of the recommended). Here is to hoping developers actually show PC players some love and throw us a patch with some fixes soon. It is really starting to bother me how games on PC are released in an atrocious state and that your best option would be to refrain from buying & playing games on release and rather wait a month or three until, hopefully, the developers patch it.

i havnt been having near that amount of issues on pc. they just did a patch in the last day or so which helped the little stutters i did get. every now and then i will clip through the water while entering and exiting the portals. but a quick opening the last save file fixes it. though i do agree it would be good to see more love shown to pc games.

I'm still a long way to go, but sure hope they release patches with new side quests, new potions and plants later on, after most people have finished the bulk of the game, maybe even have Hallowe'en, Christmas, Valentine's, O.W.Ls then move us to 6th-Year so we can have Quidditch back! (Not that I'd be playing because I currently fly like Pigwidgeon carrying the Book of Monsters but for all you guys XD)...But I'll be happy even with just side-quests, honestly. Just running around doing errands and exploring is already awesome.

a little bit of an anecdote, an irl ex-friend who transitioned fairly recently tried to ruin my relationship with my group of friends just because I bought the game, and they did it in the most average-twitter-user way imaginable, bringing up stuff from my past and honest mistakes I did, even though I no longer think nor agree with all that, we had a last discussion where we managed to settle things up, but she was still trying to convince me I was somehow harming the trans community by buying the game, I of course kept my position of it just being a commercial product all the way through. In the end our friendship basically ended, and after talking about it to my family and friends they all agreed she was being very immature, not to mention they made me realize how much of a manipulative and unthankful bitch she was, even before her transition, all in all I'm glad she got away from me, and as for me I'm still enjoying Hogwarts Legacy all the way through, I'm currently on my third run already, and no-one will ruin this childhood dream come true of a game for me

Edit: I would love it the developer treated this as a multi year project where we xan extend our character through school and then into the ministry where you can follow through different careers as desired. I don't think the game is structured this way though. Might be tough to achieve that. I would gladly pay for DLC or even MTX to fund that.

This is the game that actually made me upgrade my rig for the first time in 5 years. Like, I have to gimp my machine settings in order to play this game with any semblance of playability. Been rocking a 1060 6gb for years and it's served me well but this game pushed it to its limits and the game won. Luckily I ordered a 3060 12gb which should be here in a few days and we'll see how performance improves; may still have to gimp it a bit as my CPU is a tad bit older. While I have been enjoying this game as much as I can, I feel like I'm doing it a disservice by playing it on such low settings.

Update: After replacing my graphics card I'm able to mostly experience the game the way it's meant to be shown. Have a few bottlenecks in my HDD as it's recommended to use a SSD instead.

Honestly love the game, it's just disheartening that the PC version has performance issues. I assume it'll be addressed, but I hate that broken games are still an issue. The day one patch didn't fix anything for me unfortunately. On ultra I'm getting 50-60 FPS, with dips down to 15-30 FPS in certain areas of Hogwarts and Hogsmede. I had a GTX 1080, so got an RTX 3070 and have about the same performance. It's an amazing game, but I couldn't recommended the PC version until the performance issues are fixed. (unless you don't mind playing on low/medium settings, which is completely fair) I don't have the Series X/S version, and I don't own a PS5, but from everything I've seen and heard those versions seem to be much better performance-wise. I'm glad the console versions aren't broken, since usually "broken" games are broken on all platforms, which does give me hope for future game development. (in general, not just with Hogwarts)

I highly recommend turning down a few settings even textures because this game uses loads of VRAM and also regular RAM. Even if you play at 1440p VRAM usage will often go above 8 GB and unfortunately that's all the 3070 has. Also upgrade to 32 gigs of RAM. I've seen my RAM usage go way beyond 20 GB. This game is demanding as hell. I have an RX 6900 XT with a Ryzen 5 5600 overclocked to 4.6 Ghz and 32 Gb 3600 Mhz CL16 RAM and even I experience drops below 60 FPS at 1440p and sometimes it's just simply stuttering. It also doesn't help that my card didn't recieve a driver since last December LOL. Hurry up AMD!

it is a shame, I have 3080 and play on ultrawide, I got really uneven framerates between 100 and 45. Especially when entering a door and crowdy places in the castle gives fps drops under 60 fps. It seems badly optimized, if you got 15-30 fps moments you probably need to turn off vsync ingame, and turn on vsync on nvidia panel instead, it helped me to prevent the extremly low fps stutter moments.

Wouldn't it be wild if this game was the turning point. There is suspicion around Disney's decisions to redesign characters in pursuit of DEI. The idea is that it's to generate outrage press and promote the content for free. Hogwarts Legacy could be able to show just how effective that tactic is in the other direction. This game unintentionally became a litmus test for me. Will a channel cave and boycott it to “help” someone that wants to control what goes on their channel, or will they play anyways and go into the game with an open mind, knowing to separate reality and fiction and just play the game before reviewing it. I also wonder how people so miserable with their lives that they can’t agree to disagree anymore function, so they try to censor and try to destroy things that make them angry, like a child throwing a tantrum. It’s immature and tiresome. Also if a channel decides to boycott because of what offends a viewer, they’re enabling the viewer to abuse and control their channel more. As for the game, it seems fun. I’d probably get bored quick though and use the same strong spells for combat. I’m more interested in the environment of the world and the mystery of it. I’ve also heard the OST is alright, but I’ll have to give it a listen.

SSS (screen space shadows) causes constant flickering at the edge of the screen. Don’t see an option to change to CSM (Cascaded Shadow Maps). Textures look medium resolution even on Ultra quality. White loading texture pop in during fast camera rotations. Lighting bleed bugs all over the place. Doesn’t look like PBR is used in this UE4 title. Most gamers won’t notice but if you are game dev you will notice all the graphics bugs.

I'm so happy with how successful Hogwarts Legacy has been. Its such a fun rpg and i'm having enough fun that it makes me interested enough to actually finish watching the rest of the Harry Potter movies, since i only saw first 3. People have the right like the game (or not) independently from the author of the series of books it's based on. Reviews should focus on the product and nothing else. A boycott would have hurt the developers far more than Rowling. I haven't purchased the game, but it was because I don't really vibe with Harry Potter as a franchise (I'm more of a Percy Jackson fan) rather than because I dislike Rowling's attitude. Also I'm saving up for Tears of The Kingdom.

I'd also like to point out the game isn't perfect. There are glitches and bugs here and there. The difference is most of the time it's funny visual and not gamebreaking or detrimental to the amazing experience. Edit: I originally bought the game out of spite....played it once....for 20 hours. I am probably gonna rack up triple digit hours cuz I love this game. It's gonna give my New Vegas a run for it's money!

I don't wanna take anything from the developers, but this game was created using Unreal Engine. Not only the developers didn't spent time creating the tools, but the tools they have in their disposal are extremely powerful. You could literally create a photo realistic environment in a matter of minutes using MegaScane for example. THOUSANDS of people worked on this engine for years. That's why I cringed to the compression to ForSpoken or even to Elden Ring. These games are created using in house tool, so in my opinion, they will get a pass from me if they got the lighting slightly wrong, or face animation wasn't "next gen" or the quality of assets wasn't ground breaking.

I'm glad because it's nuanced and not black and white, like it's a seperate world with its own politics and problems, free of our own problems. The evil badguys and edgey slytherin studends really make you hate them. Yet, Their is an in-universe reason for everything.
