I’ve noticed, the first Last of Us, the first Insomniac Spider-Man, the God of War remake, the first Horizon Zero Dawn, they are sequels that stray away from what drew people to them in the first place. Days Gone 2 was one of my most anticipated games before Sony axed it. The fact that another studio, a studio on the same team even, had a hand in getting it shut down, potentially out of jealousy, is making me physically ill. Studios under the same umbrella should be lifting each other ever higher, not giving the the 'ol backstab. Bend studios got done so dirty on Days Gone; journalists hating on the game because it wasn't woke enough and, come to find out, Sony's golden child Naughty Dog working behind the scenes to make sure a sequel never get made. FFS! It's not like this game didn't sell well enough. Meanwhile, Bend just wanted to make a fun game about a dude on a motorcycle trying to survive the apocalypse. They made the game they wanted to; and I'm sure injecting real world politics into their art never crossed their minds. Of course, that's a no no for Sony America. Bend most likely had the entire plot of DG2 figured out; only needing to write the actual dialog to begin working on it. They already had the engine, assets, and character models. Meaning they could've made both Days Gone and Days Gone 2 for a fraction of the cost and time of Concord, while probably coming in at a combined sales of 20 million units. What's wrong with this picture and why is Sony America so allergic to making money?

For example Alciel and Maoho were getting papers and were forced to register as a family which many residents were giving them strange looks for. It seemed at the time that Sony America had a level head on their shoulders and were bringing out really good games at the time. West seemed more receptive to the Sony brand than Japan was as they were mostly into Nintendo (they even used Mario as a national mascot) games. It just seemed the obvious choice to make at the time unfortunately western politics crept in and now most games are just filled with such nonsense to the point every side is now fighting back against them. The good news is Trump can potentially strip this DEI movement of its power and move things back to what it was but its not going to be easy or pretty, we are going to get a lot of garbage in between.

We need regulations against big companies like Sony or EA constantly buying all these studios. It’s been nothing but detrimental, it does nothing but ruin the studios and the games they produced. However sadly I’d rather have Sony own them rather than TenCent. TenCent is a whole other can of worms when you look into them and their business practices. It’s genuinely a irl example of ‘Choose a lesser of two evils’ situation. However with Western devs? Oh yeah. It’s jealousy. They have become egotistical and need major wake up calls in the form of, firing and blacklisting these types from the industry.

The west is already messing with Japanese creators, as evidenced by western payment processors shutting down Japanese manga sites and forcing sites like Pixiv to implement censorship. Japanese game devs having to censor their creations just because they are to be released in the west is now commonplace as well. Make no mistake, the message to Japanese creators had already been sent and it's: "Obey or be destroyed". I was kinda looking into going back to Playstation, but with what has come to light in the past year, I completely lost interest. Not a fan of Nintendo's litigious nature, but looks like they are the only game in town going forward. I hope Switch 2 is powerful enough and successful enough to attract a lot of the Japanese devs to the platform and give them a worldwide audience.

Considering this is the same Sony that told YOKO TARO no in adding a sex scene to his series, anime will be doomed if this is approved. Short short: the anime of NieR Automata was supposed to have a scene where 9S finally gets his 2B, but the studio said no to Taro thinking they knew the characters than the DAM creator. Great episode Endy, and please hope the Sony purchase is denied and SBI continues to fall.

Horizon Zero Dawn was a genuinely good game that was fun with great lore. It did have a female protagonist, but I had no issue with that. Additionally, there were a decent number of male characters that were likable. They killed off one of the better male characters in the sequel.

What I find the saddest about this is that I loved the first Horizon game and its concepts of robot dinosaurs and fighting them with high tech bows and arrows. The second game before the DLC was not great but still ok for what it was, then the DLC made Alloy lesbian out of nowhere and made the story somewhat revolve around that. While they did give us the option to say she was not lesbian, it was only as the aggressive option, which in hindsight was a sort of agenda pushing. I do hope the series, assuming we ever get a new game at this point, does it's concepts and world building justice without trying to ruin itself in the name of agenda pushing. Female characters can be great, just look at Lara Croft before Netflix, 2B, and Bayonetta, but that shouldn't justify removing what make them great characters in the first place in the name of agendas.
