War in Ukraine has been a convenient excuse to absolutely fleece us through the "international market". In the same way with oil, the energy market is a cartel with predatory pricing. Our government allow it when they stop this happening in every other industry because they generate huge tax revenues from it. We generate and export MORE energy than we import, so there is no reason for us to be overpaying

Andy, be careful if you change tariffs within the same company. They never said anything til i asked THEN admitted there was a charge. I nearly got caught out by this.

Im on the tracker about £600 in credit, lowered my payments to about £177 and now ive seen a 12 month fix with octopus for about £164 a month im so confused now.

A large majority of these cheap deals require the installation of a smart meter.

@@barrielui in your preferred search engine type take back your power. Big data is big money and you are just the commodity. Concerns around privacy and control.

@@BadHorsie1 no one stops energy retailer to monitor the energy usage per substation or gas pipeline point. They can get your data (average of a neighbourhood) from there anyway. Assume I can get a quarter off the energy bill, I am fine selling the data for a few hundred quids. Money saving techniques almost always involve selling your data. Price comparison, cashback sites, shop memberships, etc. Smart meter is no different.

My fix is lower than the cap, it was lower than the old one. Importantly for me the standing charges on it are low.

Alot of variable tariffs dont have exits. Eon, b.gas, tomato, octopus dont and some of outfox dont or their very low. Try comparison sites to see all tariffs with no exits

can anybody help me i cannot afford my electric im with scotish power they charge me a daily fee 72p per daily standing order fee i only stay at home once a month as i have a disabled mother i look after stay at hers have done 1 year now everytime i go home it costs me £60 to stay there for a night use a kettle twice tv hour r so maybe 2 lights realy struggling thanks guys

See what else they offer. I know British Gas have fixed tariffs with the standing order on elec of 55p per day. Might be worth seeing what is on other sites. And make sure that you are being billed for actual usage not estimated.

Utilita only charge for what you use....so being away not using .....no charge

Also Andy, Midway through a fix you could owe them money as well as starting your new fix payments. it could be hundreds of pounds you will never see back
